It's actually very useful in winter cos it dries the air and demists your windows quickly! ;)
-
It's also worth noting that if you start putting slicks on, you're going to get a lot more grip (obviously) But this means you're also likely to get oil depravation and bent suspention parts if you're not careful...
-
As has been proved many times by people's comments on here Darren 8) :thumbleft: It would be interesting to see if this rebuild number does ever actually appear though ;) "oh you mean g-werks... I err thought thought you said f-werks"

Yeah I can imagine.. I mean actually being seen at a McDonalds, let alone attracting attention to it...

i saw that, i dont do shell suits leave that to the townies And Supercharged  ... I'm amazed he hasn't blown himself up yet.
-
Yeah I'm gonna get it done and it's going to be done properly :) If the yokel garage can't do it then I'll take it up to Dr. Vince.

How many of you saw Brainiac? (waits for inevitable jokes about shell suits  )

Haven't driven the Corrado for a month now :-(

Good stuff, glad to hear the beast is still alive (you can decide if I mean you or the C ;) ) And you jammy git for getting a play with Ferraris! 8) -
You will be amazed at what difference one of Gavin's looms makes, especially when combined with some uprated bulbs (Osram SilverStars from http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk are top notch!). It's like getting an extra stage on your lights. The old main beam is like your new dipped and the main beam is now like the sun itself. ok, maybe not quite that good, but you get the idea. VR6, as far as uprating the main beams go, I'm not sure. I just urgraded my dipped ones (H4s). TBH though, once you get the new loom in the main beam is good enough to not need extra brightness bulbs. It would be interesting to see how much of a difference they make though.

If you've removed 45mil from the ride height, it's a good idea to remove 45mil from the bump stops too. It'll certainly make it ride a lot better ;) Although you'll lose the bad-ass ass-in-the-air look that mine has 8)

Hmm interesting. I would guess they're probably not too bad in the damp, but any standing water and you're buggered. As you say, the rubber is going to be a lot softer than a road tyre anyway, so the trade off between tyre grip and water under the tyre must be somewhere.
-
Not personally tried any of them, but I do know that they are all appauling in the wet because they're basically just slicks with a few token grooves lightly drawn on to make them road legal. http://www.bookatrack.co.uk supply them, but I don't know if they're the cheapest place around.
-
Shouldnt have told them about your trackday exploits really..... Yeah, but when I said the tracking was out they said "well it was striaght when it left here because I road tested it" and as the readout from the alignment rig clearly shows the front was out before they started I can hardly say 'oh err it umm just went like that'. :( I've managed to extract far more money out of insurance companies so far than I've paid them so it's not the end of the world having to pay a few quid to a decent garage to get the tracking sorted.

Couldn't get the f*&%£$g thing out :( It's not helped by the fact that the hole is so small you can only get one arm in and the pump is covered in 10yrs worth of petrol slime. I'm gonna have another attempt at the weekend though...

LOL.... love your writing style man... Yeah Vince's theory is sound actually. He is the man.... I did my 'not worthy' bowing and grovelling on the phone. I almost want to something that needs doing on my C now so I can take it to him. Mind you, with a Corrado it's only a matter of time

Aha... So I called Dr. Vince to ask his opinion. He seems to think that the whole axle is probably twisted, hence giving similar toe offset on both sides. But he says that there is adjustment in the axle brackets themselves which may have been knocked out when I hit aforementioned tree. Chances are that the bodyshop just left the brackets where they are and replaced the axle itself. So in theory it's just a case of slackening the bracket bolts and shunting the axle round a bit. If that don't work, then err oh dear.

yep about 10 people with first hand experience praising g-werks :notworthy: and 1 person with second hand info slating them  Also people from all 3 of the recommended places (G-Werks, Pitsop and JMR) all post on here regularly... I don't see a Jabba rep?
-
No idea, as they're pretty mashed up from the air field. I'll go have a look though as they should be showing un-even wear if they weren't aligned properly.
-
That would explain why one wheel is out, but they're both out of spec...?
-
I know that they only replaced 1 of them...
-
Well in theory I would have thought that there's no way you can move the rear axle, but if the bodyshop didn't tighten it up properly, or if the mounts are slightly bent, then that could explain it. But I'm not 100% sure...

So after the ragging my C received last week on the airfield, the tracking was out and the steering wheel was pointing a few degrees left while going straight ahead. No biggie I thought, it's just knocked the camber out. So I booked it in and got it laser aligned today.... oh dear. They managed to straighten up the front apart from the caster, but the guy said that's not a major problem(??), but the rear is quite a lot out on the toe  I had to have a new axle put on it after my tree molesting incident, but the car drove straight when it came back from the bodyshop. My questions are... Could they have aligned the front in the bodyshop to counter the still offset rear? (i.e. making the car drive slightly sideways)? Is is at all possible for me to have moved the axle on the airfield (bearing in mind it was getting some serious stick)? The numbers from the rig are as follows.... Front Caster Left: 2.16 Right: 2.17 Spec: 2.55 - 3.55 Rear Toe Left: -0.09 Right: 0.27 Spec: 0.05-0.15 (All the other measurements are splat bang in the middle of the specs)

I know that Mr Haywire managed to get a brand new VAG one from ebay for about £150. Not sure who was selling it or if they sell more of them though.

I'm not a massive fan of air-cooled junk, but these people have left their immaculate (from this distance) splitty Camper out in the rain :( It's got foreign plates on it too, so they must have driven it a fair way to get here. Mind you, I'd rather see it being used than locked away somewhere :)
