Word of advice : If you're going to make comments as above, it's good form to actually be better at the job than the monkeys, especially when it's a retard-level one like diagnosing an oil temp fault. You'll find their "list of points to do" includes isolating the fault to sender or wiring without resorting to swapping clocks out. I suggest you replace the rear wiper, it won't fix the problem but it's in keeping with the VW forum tradition of randomly replacing half the components in the car, without applying any form of logical fault-finding methodology or indeed, common sense. Well TBH I'm sure there are some good VW mechanics at a dealership somewhere, but my experience with them has been poor to pathetic. Either way, they certainly don't justify £70 an hour in labour. I've got a receipt for the local stealership in Cambridge for £150 to sort out the poor starting on my car. They diagnosed it as a dead battery. Which it may have been, but it wasn't the cause for the car's poor starting, it was a result of it. The actual problem has been a clogged fuel filter (not changed since new) and as a result a dying fuel pump. I'm not saying I can do the job any better either, but then I'm not charging £70 an hour for the privielge ;)

Might get an option on a standard red VR6 with leather...

Pah, chuck in a few US-spec toys (airco etc.) and now it really looks crowded under the bonnet, where is the ground? Tempest Yeah I've got aircon on my VR as well as the mahusive 7L washer tank. You seriously can't see the ground through there! -
what colour should i paint my callipers??

And them brake pads off my kitchen table... -
MInd you, the staff were still recovering from a visit from the Haywire and his 'exhaustive' purchasing... apparently they had to do a stock take after he left and 3 of them had to have therapy...  Good point. Kev did seem rather too excited about that exhaust. It was the industrial size tub of Vaseline next to it that was particularly worrying though.

Classic quotes from Donkus after I opnened my bonnet on Saturday... 'So where's the engine?' and 'You can see the ground under there!' I was gonna say 'oh so this is the hair drier right?' but the look on your face at that point made me think it wouldn't have been too appreciated. It looks much more complicated under there with all them hoses and stuff than the VR does tho. -
She is usually ok and fairly knowledgable, made me laugh tho, you go in and ask for a part number that they say they can't match on there system, I bring the mount with me, guy takes it and finds something that looks similar, opens the bag and its got the same fecking VAG part number written on it as mine  Result for you tho Dom, £9 better than £30! Aye, it did seem a bit chaotic in there  and yeah score on the price of the mount, shame about the price of the labour to fit it :( Oh well, at least it's on now :) Once I get the fuel pump in I need to take the C out for a nice drive and get the new gearbox oil flowing through the meshes too.

My front calipers are a lovely shade of matt black with a smattering of brown. Does the job nicely for me. It gives them that '80k mile' look 8) -
Now there's a good idea... if I'm gonna be having the handle off to fit one of this handle fixing kits anyway, I might as well slap an armour panel in there too :) And sorry to hear about that Andi, you do seem to get a lot of bad luck with eejits attacking your C :( I really wish the feckers would just break the window. There's bugger all worth stealing in my car anyway and I get free glass replacement on my insurance.

And those G60's really are camp... I mean there is a hair drier under the bonnet... Ok ok I'll stop now. Seriously though, I've got nothing against them, they're a pretty cool setup and certainly have a much bigger X factor than the VRs. I just like baiting ;) -
I'll second that, the guy in there on Sat was great, found what I wanted straight away, re-organised half the warehouse to find the part Supercharged had ordered in and had been put in the wrong place and was just bloomin nice too. The woman that tried served me earlier in the morning and couldn't find the (same) part number I needed on the system was pretty useless though
-
And if they're breaking up it usually means the shocks are dead too (unless you've already replaced them of course) ;)
-
Yeah sounds like and idea. I'll have a go at whipping the dials out at the weekend and see if there's owt loose. Is it an easy job? (ok ok it's not an easy job, but how do I do it?)
-
Heh heh I flyered his blue valver the other week out by Gog Magog. I have the problem that Cambridge is still 30mins drive, so I have to take a load of time off work, so if I'm gonna be doing that, I might as well go to Stealth.
-
Ah ok I see you've managed to find out about linkages already :) Ignore my PM then ;) jedi-knight83 is worth asking about garages in/around Cambridge. Good luck!
-
Yeah I figured as much *joy* I hate chasing cables

Just got the oil temp sendor replaced (looked like a pig of a job, so I got someone else to do it :) but I still don't have an oil temp on the MFA, it's just coming up as --- Any suggestions on what to look for now?

I'm working on it... got 8 tapes to log first...

Yup, with a whole host of testimonials to back up how bad they are and they charge a fortune for the privilege. Most of the monkeys that work in their servicing departments have been 'trained' to go through a list of points to do. They won't have been working on Corrados for the last 10yrs and they won't be able to spot anything that isn't on their list. I'm not saying that back-street garages are any better, (although they are cheaper) but a VW specialist such as Stealth or JMR are much better qualified, experienced, priced and honest than a VW stealership.

Just a nice pic that I took the other day

Hmm ok, dunno then sorry.

AFAIK There were 2 types of MAF. The early ones were heated wire and the later ones were as your first picture and were heated mesh. As to which ones went onto which cars, I dunno. Also that second picture looks like it's the same thing to me... it's got an induction kit strapped onto the end of it instead of an airbox though.
-
Yup, definitely female. Nothing else wants or needs hundreds of pounds a week to keep it/them happy  You tell that to a girl and she says "well why don't you spend hundreds a week on me?!" thus further proving that the Corrado is indeed female.
