  1. Those look pretty nasty, but it is good to be reminded what can happen if you drive like a tit (not saying that guy was, but it is what will happen if you plough head-on into a lorry).
  2. Ah yeah, a cunning plan - beats paying £25 a pop (I think) for the spindle things :)
  3. Top job, sir 8) If you drop Andi a PM, he'll get you sorted out with a wiki login and you can wiki yourself silly :)
  4. Not tried myself, but I'd imagine they'll be rusty and covered in gunk. I'd make sure you've got a can of WD40, or even better, PlusGas (same thing but way better) to hand. Douse the bolts in that, leave for 20mins, have a go then.
  5. Don't think you can order the whole shebang pre-assembled, but even if you could you'd pass out when they told you the price  The shafts are sort of riveted in - you'll need to carefully cut the old ones off. I'd use a chisel so you don't damage the hole in the bracket, but I guess a drill would work too. When you get the new spindle, it'll have two cones on it that fit into the holes and then need pressing into place. If you've got a few different size bits of wood to pack a normal metalwork vice out with, it can be done in that, but better to use a proper hydraulic press for the job. Most garages will have them, or if you've already got the mech out - take it to VW with you and they can probably press it in for you.
  6. From what I can remember there's a lip on the underside of the bumper and a matching one on the top of the spoiler. There's then a long folded piece of steel that clamps the 2 together and has some bolts through it. You can get to top and bottom of the metal strip from under the car, so should be able to put new snap nuts and screws in.
  7. make sure you take enough butter/marg with you
  8. I like butter. It's not as nice as cheese though.
  9. It is pretty mad - surely there's got to be a better way to do things. A website that you could use to search all of the dealerships for these parts on would help a lot. They could sell the parts at a substantial discount and everyone would be happy :)
  10. There's a white plastic knob on the back of each headlight that's designed to be turned by hand. Can be a bit of a squeeze getting to the driver's side one, but not that bad :)
  11. Yup - the grille just pops off and the tweeter mount just pops out too.
  12. Exceot BB who is in Bristol, not really deep south. ;) I'm not sure Bristol was the kind of "deep down south" he was referring to ;)
  13. Blimey! And I thought the mirror glass for a Corrado was expensive at £40+ VAT!
  14. I love how this thread that originally started about a potential doubling of road tax has turned into a rant on the enivornment... and the actual road tax increase was just £5  Gotta love CF :D
  15. It's always reassuring when there are misprints on the official government website. I'm assuming it means income tax is changing to 20 percent, not pence  And that the second chart on road taxes is for cars registered before March 2001, rather than also being for cars registered after March 2001. Muppets.
  16. The latest release of the Emerald ECU can do 3 separate maps that can be switched betwen on the fly, plus you've also got misc aux inputs and outputs on the ECU that can be used for triggering/sensing the nos.
  17. Yeah, by far the most in-depth article in the wiki is 2cc's Clutch and Timing Chains Replacement Guide - it was so big that I had to put it in 2 parts. The formatting's still a mess becuause it's a huge amount of effort getting something of that size done properly in wikitext. I might have a crack at tidying it up tomorrow, if I get time.
  18. It's perfectly natural to have pictures of a handsome boy on your computer... I don't know why he didn't post some of the ones he's taken of you asleep or in the shower that he was telling me about though.... For some reason I read that as "ones he's taken of you asleep in the shower" and I was thinking "hey, I don't remember ever sleeping in the show...wait a second" Besides, I didn't know Louis Theroux was gay...
  19. Why? Heh heh, when I used to go out like that, people would cross the street when they saw me coming so they didn't have to walk past me. They got very confused when you smiled at them  And Kev - don't look like that any more, I had to get all sensible for my current job. What does concern me is why Louie Lungbubble had that pic of me saved on his computer... ;)
  20. I'd use one if it existed, but from experience with the comparatively limited info on the wiki - it would take you a huge amount of time to actually add new information to. From my scared of oil perspective - the best help is a well written explanation of what to do along with labelled photos/diagrams. I'd say that going further than that and animating every single bolt is gonna be hugely time-consuming for very little extra benefit to the user. If you can charge a tidy sum for it, then that'll be ok, but I think that you'll struggle to cover your costs of making the system with advertising alone. Having said that, being able to make the ETKA/ETOS type exploded diagrams into accurate 3D models that you can spin around would be a great help when ordering parts. Just my 2p :)
  21. Sorry to hear about the torching  But as Chris says - send them as many adverts from here/pistonheads/Auto Trader as you can to prove the car's value. Send them pics of it looking all sexy (if you have any) and copies of as many receipts as you can lay your hands on. They always take the piddle with their first offer, so don't back down until you get something you're happy with.
  22. I think that new paint is going to be at the top of my £6k spending list
