Sounds like you may have an air lock maybe? Blocked rad, dodgy water pump? Is there an aux water pump on yours like the VR? As for dodgy idle, is it only when cold? Might be a coolant sensor faulty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My VR has been stalling a lot recently when warm and as yours, when slowing down for a junction etc. I've cleaned all the air intake pipes including the ISV and then put a jubilee clip on all vac hoses and fingers crossed seems ok. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

When I rebuilt my ABV VR6 the head bolts were 3 (from memory) different lengths too. Although I had the old ones stabbed through a piece of card for reference, i think you could probably see which go where by holding them up against the engine. I do agree though, it would be good to have a diagram! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Interesting. So did you remove your head just to do valve guides? Did you do anything else whilst it was off? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So, mine; 93 VR6 with 256k on the clock! Reskimmed head, pressure tested, existing valves reused and reseated with new stem seals. Original springs, original cams, original tappets, fibre head gasket metal cam cover. New FEBI Chain KIT, new crankshaft bearings new big end bearings and new piston rings. Brand new oil pump, FEBI from memory, and running 10 40 shell helix but soon to be changed for a 10 60 I think.

Thanks mate, pmd you back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Any joy with those part numbers vag hag? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Starting to think maybe I should of replaced all the tappets and associated parts. Jim, you say you had a replacement head, was it fully rebuilt, all new parts?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I feel for you Jim, mines in the same sort of rev range too. I've had the head refurbed as above but using existing tappets, springs and buckets/lifters. I have been told it could be down to the cam wear but I didn't think of this at the time, plus my budget didn't allow for new cams! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Interesting what you say about a metal rocker cover mate. Is there a plastic replacement then? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yea, definitely! I'm not overly worried about it, like you say, good to get some feedback on what others are like! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Fair enough! Lol! Any opinions on my one? I've heard a lot worse but would like it quieter! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anyone have a FCM for a 93 vr that I could try with a view to buy? Think mine is shot (keeps popping fuses) My part number is 1HO 919 506. Many thanks in advance.

Just wondering if anyone is willing/think it's a good idea to post a video of their engine running to compare (mainly) tappet/cam noise? As some of you might know, I have recently rebuilt my VR lump but did not change the cams and although had the head reskimmed, pressure tested and new valve stem oil seals, I did not have the tappets done. I personally think my engine is a tad loud and I'd be interested to gather some opinions and hopefully hear some more videos. I'm running 10W 40 Shell Helix and as I'm approaching 500 miles since rebuild I'll be doing an oil and filter change soon, I'm thinking of putting in a slightly thicker oil in an attempt to quieten her down when hot. So, hear is my engine at full operating temp, roughly 92 water temp and 104 oil temp....https://vimeo.com/180432780

Blue was the one I had in mind mate but I'm having troubles with the fuse for the after run which keeps blowing so thought I'd change the yellow one too and whilst I'm there may as well do them all! I've got a feeling I've got a dodgy fan control module though!! [emoji30] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Spot on. Good to hear another fault diagnosed and fixed!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just leaving TPS now. I've got all 3 that locate in the stat housing. £90 for all 3 with o rings and clips. Watch this space... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Mines doing the same thing mate. I'm collecting new coolant temp sensors this morning to hopefully sort it. I'll let you know what happens...... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm assuming you haven't had an oil pressure light? Cam followers/tappets seem feasible to me, just thinking maybe a weak oil pump? Either way, further investigation is needed! Also, is the g60 chain or belt? If it's chain maybe the tensioner is weak causing a tad of chain slap?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My VR has a similar trait! Think it's the tappets. Don't suppose you could upload a vid?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Exhaust heat shield maybe? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No worries mate. The offer was very much appreciated though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks Philly for your advice and help. I think trying another fan controller would be beneficial to be honest. Are you local to Swindon area? I will attach a pic of my fan controller with the part number if it helps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Weeelll..... Talking of vac leaks!! The pipes going into the idle control valve seem to 'breathing' a bit heavy! There's no jubilee clips on the pipes so maybe that might be the cutting out issue?? I farted about with them earlier and the car didn't cut out once whilst out for a spirited drive. MAF cleaner you say?? I've got carb cleaner!! Do you just spray it in then?
