  1. I saw somewhere that someone did it with some threaded bars and a couple of plates. Genius. I did mine with the brother in law and a small 3T press. Not easy and hilarious having to hold the axle up. Make sure you get the ears back in the correct placing. As you will never get them out again 😩
  2. Is that the tape that is more expensive than gold?. Looks like it has good uses though 👍
  3. I had the sunroof panel off mine when fitting the cassette. Never thought to leave it on, perhaps as it was off for painting. Remember 1mm down at the front 1mm up at the rear. You are cracking on with it today
  4. The logos are stickers that I got off ebay. I made sure to panel wipe so that it was very clean, then sealed them onto for some protection. I know they wont last forever but I thought it would be a nice touch
  5. Starts to look like a car with that fitted 😁
  6. one person benefits, then it is worth it. 😇
  7. Always used the greenstuffs on my 16v just so that wheel cleaning was easier. Never had a problem with them. There is a set of genuine pads also on the box of bits I bought... didnt realise. Cheers Shaun So, as I still have one side to do, I wondered if it would be beneficial to do a separate write up with lots of pics, as there is nothing in the Wiki about this, what do people think? I appreciate it isnt a difficult swap, but others may benefit from this, just a thought. Let me know your thoughts 🤔👍
  8. Thought I would go black to maybe hide them. I had a late mk3 16v GTi with the same size brakes and alloys, was sure they had shims.... I will see how it goes 😊 The hoses are Goidridge phantom I believe, will check tomorrow. I got the new hoses and new genuine discs with a stripped down set of 288s calipers, £100 off ebay months ago. I don't need the calipers as I had already got a set and powder coated them. Happy with how the finished side looks 😊. Easy to bleed for once as it was just pushing it along one side Probably 5mm clearance on the balance weights, that's good enough for me Need to find time for the other side..
  9. Do the mk3 288s need the anti rattle shims ?
  10. Couple of hours spare so I am going to start the front brake 288mm upgrade. I have been collecting these parts for a while, just needed the time to fit. Not to everyone's liking in black maybe.... with genuine vag discs and greenstuff pads. Hopefully the refurbed speedlines will fit with the balance weights on!
  11. Merry Christmas everyone. 🍻🥂 Santa brought me a cheap battery impact wrench gun that fits my 18v makita tools. Lazy wheel removing here we go 😇
  12. Well done. That engine looks super clean and must have involved sooo much time and effort. Jealous
  13. It is nice to be doing bits to it. I feel your pain as much doors were a pain to do earlier this year On the plinth I added some double sided tape, just to be on the safe side. I hope you get some time at xmas to get more done 😊
  14. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324426439089 Vr6 radiators are suddenly like buses 😂
  15. I thought it strange that mine didnt have one. To be on the safe side I added some pfte tape and have never had a leak
  16. Well I'm hoping to find the time to fit my 288 brakes and the refurbed speedlines. If Santa is really kind he will give me time to put some wires into the ECU for the later Schrick project. Or even give me chance to look at the engine mounts as I do feel that there is too much vibration !!

  18. Let me know how you get on with those Sean, as they last told me they were obsolete. Keyo I get your frustration and I am sure they will sort this out. I wouldn't want to lose VW Heritage as a supplier and middle person for us. Anna has been a massive help for the forum and for pushing to get parts remade for us. If I don't like a brand of part they have, I shop elsewhere. But someone must buy those items.! 99.5% of the time I have had great help and service from them. Santa will sort this for xmas 🎅😇
  19. Agreed 👍 I'm just fussy about removing all the trim etc so that nothing gets botched or broken. As a nice touch I relocated my old led to the blank at the heated window switch, so I need to do the finishing touches
  20. Managed to get one off Ebay. Just need to decide whether I remove the old and fit this, or I get an installer to do it. My garage is cold..
  21. I've gone off them lately. Took them to a powder coating place in Nottingham near my work
  22. How does that happen!!! The man that sorts it all doesn't receive his, NOooo. Keep us posted 👀
