  1. Don't you remember helping me get it in the back of my car?!?
  2. Yeah, all the positive feedback here about G-Werks is certainly a big plus in my book. It's 5 years since I had my charger rebuilt at BRM, and whilst that is testimony to the quality of the rebuild it's no guarantee they still do them that well!
  3. It's OK, I already have part of your car sitting in my shed...
  4. Yeah, I know the fishing tackle shop I think - by the chip shop, right by Focus? I guess really it's what the extra £100 means to you offset against the inconvenience. Given the amount I've spent on mine in the last month (about £1500) that £100 would be nice to have in my pocket for a change ;)
  5. Warwick :) Whereabouts are you? Coventry? I must admit I don't go to Cov that much, so it's unlikely I've seen you around (don't seem to see many Corrados around here at all in fact)...
  6. To be fair, it has all been on-topic so far. The guy did open the can of worms by asking about the G60 vs VR6 :) It's a good thought though. Buy my G60 then, and I'll go and buy myself a VR6. Then everyone's happy :)
  7. I just popped in over my (late) lunch break, they still do the rebuilds. The bad news is that it's £399+VAT, which equates to just shy of £470 all in. For the sake of saving £100 I'd rather be without my car for a few days while it went to G-Werks instead I think...:)
  8. Very true :) Also good to remember that almost EVERYONE loves the Corrado, whether they own one or not...
  9. A bit hard to quantify, that one :) There are so many variables (driver, tyres, suspension, gearbox, state of tune of either car etc. etc.) it doesn't stand up as universally true unless you're talking about the potential that the VR6 has to exceed the G60 in virtually every area thanks to a cubic capacity that's over half as much again :) Don't get me wrong; I'm no advocate of either model over the other (love 'em both!), and I've not said a word against the VR6 (and certainly not said anything as grossly stupid as "the VR doesn't handle"!), all I've done is talk about relative expense of tuning mods, and relative weight to carry with whatever engine you choose. Jeez, you'd think I'd said the VR6 was a shopping car or something! If it was, I wouldn't be considering moving from a G60 to a VR6 :)
  10. Admin, we need a "Barryboy" smiley complete with Burberry cap please :norty:
  11. Could be...the larger fuel tank would certainly account for some of it. There's only one thing for it - find a weighbridge :)
  12. Kev, I know you weren't saying what I quoted was rubbish, I just wanted to check it out in case anyone reading the thread thought I was just making it all up :) 125kg does sound too much of a difference though. I suspect the CCGB site has transposed some figures maybe - you've got 1150kg, they've got 1115...?
  13. Damn. I typed that didn't I. I only meant to think it. I hate it when that happens.
  14. Christ, not the hot wax on the nipples again sir!!!
  15. Prep school actually, expect a sound thrashing :) No problem with that, I wasn't disputing your "real world" example, I was backing up what I had said previously about the relative weights of the cars and the effect that has on the power-to-weight ratio, in light of your response (weights taken from the owners manual) which may have led some to believe that I was merely making it all up! However, I am inclined to question the weight figures given on the CCGB website and go with the owner's manual figures instead. It does seem a bit unlikely that the VR6's engine is a full 125 kg heavier than the G60's...
  16. Yep, agreed. When I first got my Mk1 GTI (back in '92) I took it to BRMotorsport for a service. I asked Brian Ricketts about the benefits of putting Slick50 in - and got a decisive "do NOT put that in your engine" back. He said exactly what Kev said - it'll end up blocking oilways.
  17. OK, I just checked my figures - and assuming the figures on the CCGB website are correct (and I'd hope they were!): G60 - 1115kg - 143 bhp/tonne - http://www.corradoclub.co.uk/Models/18g60.html VR6 - 1240kg - 153 bhp/tonne - http://www.corradoclub.co.uk/Models/29vr6.html Based on these figures, the G60 needs to produce 170.6bhp to match the VR6's power-to-weight ratio. For what it's worth.
  18. Thanks Ken, but at least have the decency to quote in context with the disclaimer that power-to-weight ratio is not necessarily a true comparison of performance: And now over to Carrie for the weather...
  19. I love them both :) I've currently got a G60 (which is undergoing a moderate restoration at the moment - just tidying up bodywork, replacing suspension & brakes, and probably another charger rebuild) but am toying with the idea of selling up and buying a VR6. Why? Simply because it's the Corrado I always wanted. They sound awesome for a start ;) But in the end I may just keep the G60 for a while and bung a chip & pulley on it. What you should bear in mind is whether or not you want to start modding the car for extra power. The G60, as you probably know, is often cheaper to mod - chip & pulley conversions are relatively cheap and give you lots of bang for your buck. Schrick manifolds on the VR6 seem like a good mod, but by comparison are pretty expensive. Finally, the G60 is considerably lighter than the VR6. I once worked out, from the figures on the Corrado Club website, that to match the VR6's power-to-weight ratio you only needed to tune a G60 up to 170bhp. Of course this doesn't take into account the spread of torque or availability of power through the rev range, but it's about as close a comparison as I'm able to give :) So I'd imagine a G60 with a chip & pulley putting out around 185bhp SHOULD, in theory, be quicker than a VR6. But I'm not sure it would sound so good ;)
  20. The great payback though is that fantastic low-slung driving position (low-slung for a coupe anyway). I let a mate have a go in mine, he absolutely loved the driving position. Said it made him feel like he was in a Ferrari or something :)
  21. Ditto :) But I think he actually meant being associated with those particular cars, rather than falling out of them (and let's face it, the Calibra was only a Cavalier with a dress on, and getting out of a repmobile isn't too tough considering a large proportion of the people who drive them seem to be fat pillocks ;) )
  22. Yeah, I liked the quote on the recent report about how (and I'm paraphrasing here) the Corrado was the only '90s coupe you wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen getting out of :) Something like "what sort of message are you giving out when you climb out of a Probe, a Calibra, or even a Celica? Not good."
  23. Sorry ( I'm a dumbass!) but what's an FPR? :)
  24. Cheers :) I'm giving much consideration to going for a rebuild combined with a chip & pulley combo. I'd be looking for 185bhp-ish, is that a feasible expectation for a 68mm pulley? Out of interest, how easy is it to carry out chip & pulley mods? Something any competent mechanic can do (thinking of my ex-BRM mate here)? If I was going to courier the charger off for a rebuild it would make sense to order the chip & pulley to be delivered & fitted at the same time.
