  1. Sounds like a similar problem to mine, and the lines that musicmanposted here: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... 4&lighter= were very helpful. I'll leave the rest to those in the know though :-) Good luck, Tom

    head gasket

I second that having just been rescued from a similar (but not quite as drastic) situation. Cheers, Tom
  3. I didn't do much, but Gavin did! Cheers man. New fuel filter and timing/throttle cable issues sorted, and it's running like a dream. :thumbleft:

    Mazda MX5?

Without meaning reinforce their girly image, my Mum's got one :-) An early 1.6 and it is great fun to drive, although I recommend a bag of sand/cement in the boot, as they can be rather frisky. Reliability wise, she's had it for about 4 or 5 years now, and the only thing it's needed done aside from regular servicing was a replacement rear panel in the rag top after someone closed it without unzipping it first... Independent Motoring section had an article on them this week: http://motoring.independent.co.uk/road_ ... 296778.ece
  5. Blimey. £3,600 for a red valver. Maybe there's hope for the rest of us valver owners when (if) the time comes to sell. :-)
  6. Aye, 'rado's are good cars in protectecting you. Glad you're ok old boy, but sorry to hear about the car (I konw how you feel). Cheers, Tom
  7. No pipes disconnected around the airbox? That's happened to me before... Does it just die immediately or just as it returns to idle? Good luck, Tom
  8. A dark coloured VR with one broken foglight driving up Nunnery Lane in York last night about 11:30. Anyone?

  10. That's crazy Riley, but glad to hear that you got out of the situation OK. Megane vs. G60? No contest :)

    Fuel Filter Help.

Cheers man, I really appreciate that. I can be there any time, just let me know when's convenient. I'll bring cable ties :-)

    Fuel Filter Help.

Sorry about the poor quality pic, a camera phone and poor lighting. I've soaked the nut in WD40 and I'll give it another go this coming weekend with some more brute force and some cable ties :) Cheers all, Tom
  13. Welcome to the forum man. Have you got a 'rado already or are you searching for one? Cheers, Tom

    Fuel Filter Help.

Gahhh!!! THE ******* thing won't come off. It's held on by a phillips screw in the most arkward place possible, and the 19mm nut at one end must have been tightened by King Kong. In my efforts to loosen said nut, I've bent the casing of the blasted filter. Time to take it to the garage where they have tools for such stubborn things...
  15. I'm no mechanical genius but everyone said this is an easy job, so the car's up on axle stands at the moment. However, an important question, is this my fuel filter? If it is, has anyone got any suggestions on how to remove the clip attaching it to the underside of the car. Many thanks, Tom
  16. Cheers! After some fiddling with the idle screw last night (after it had conked out on me) it now idles (albeit reluctantly). Some refinedment required methinks, but heel and toe work is not longer neccessary (but still fun :-)). Thanks again all, Tom
  17. Gavin that would be cracking if you don't mind helping me out. The cappucinos/beers will be on me! :-). aide, is the ISV on the 1.8 in a different place to that of the 2.0l? I'll try to have a look tonight before I go out, but as you may have guessed I'm not the most mechanically gifted (but trying to learn) :-)
  18. Saw a gray rado on shiney 17" wheels driving through York (Walmgate) about 8pm last night. N9 ***, I gave the thumbs up but I was in the Pizza car and not mine.
  19. Thanks gents. I haven't checked the leads yet, and the timing should be spot on as it's just had a new head. Still, it did it again up in Edinburgh so somethings up with it... When crawling in traffic (or even just coming to a halt), if you don't keep the revs up manually, they drop to about 500 and then it stalls and refuses to restart unless you leave it for about a minute. I'll have a poke about at the weekend. Cheers, Tom
  20. Yup, quite a bit. I was sat in a jam near Birmingham today and my gf piped up: "That man's ogling your car." :-)
  21. F1 vs. Le Mans...no contest. All we need now is for someone to SHOW Le Mans when it's on... BTCC is cracking too. Anyone fancy going to Croft on 17th July this year?
  22. Welcome to both of you, wallets at the ready :-) Cheers, Tom
  23. Having completed the 400 miles from York to Cornwall on one (55litre) tank, with the fuel gauge nowhere near the red, I came down the hill to the carpark by the beach, pulled in, and the car cut out right in the entrance way. I had to get help from all the aircooled lads to push my car out of the way so I could stick a can of petrol in... Doh!
  24. Just got back from a sunny week in Newquay travelling there and back by 'rado without too many hitches (apart from running out of petrol and having to be pushed by the aircooled boys), but a couple of questions. I travelled down and back mostly on motorways/A roads, and my average MPG for the whole trip (calculated) was just over 30. I was being relatively well behaved at a steady 80, even pottling at 70 some of the time because of the heat. Should I be getting better MPG than this on a 1.8 valver running standard apart from 2 exhaust cams, powerflow system and K&N panel? My second query is that the car is very lumpy when dropping to idle, and only some prodigious 'heel and toe' action prevents it from stalling. When it did stall, it refused to restart until I bumped it. Could this be a knackered fuel filter (which I'm going to change anyway after running out of petrol), or could the timing be out? The car idles at 1000rpm. Any advice appreciated. Cheers, Tom
