Rat's Knackers. Changed tank, changed cap, all was going fine until on the way back from Harrogate it starts steaming like a kettle, and the temperature and oil warning lights started flashing and beeping. Could this be because there was too much water, and not enough coolant? How much G12+ should a valver take? 40% of capacity yes? Cheers, Tom

That's a seriously crazy beast.. My Dad's is a little more standard I have to say :-)
-
Nice one, that's quite a hit list! I also see that you have a 1934 Morris 8 from your sig, cool. What colour is it if you don't mind me asking? My dad has a maroon and black one. Cheers, Tom

Changed my header tank only to discover that it wasn't the header tank that was the problem, but the cap. Changing the cap today...

I used a big pair of mole grips when changing my header tank which seemed to do the job (although it takes a little while to get a decent grip).

A very good ball cheers, and I managed to park far enough away that no-one spotted me in the Fiesta...even though it was a 1.3 Ghia :-) Hundreds of beautiful women in posh frocks...marvellous! That and the surroundings of Ripley Castle made for a good night out, even if I didn't arrive with quite the style I had in mind :-) Cap tomorrow I think... DOH!

Knackers. Having just ordered and fitted a new coolant tank, it turns out that it was leaking from the under the CAP of the coolant tank and the new coolant tank doesn't come with a cap. Naturally.

Right, magnatec I think, thanks for the advice gents. Cheers, Tom

G reg red G60 (?) in Harrogate about half one on Sunday. I was in a *cough* Fiesta *cough* due to my troubles, so I didn't wave.
-
Cheers for the quick replay samm_cvr6, I might have a word with the Tech boys at the stealers when I go down for the coolant. I was running semi-synthetic 0w-40 which I think was too thin. Cheers, Tom

Corrado help needed for a wannabe corrado owner
TomB replied to Hank_Marvin's topic in General Car Chat
1.8 16v is a hoot. Not as much torque as the 2.0l valver, but the handling's good, and it's still faster than 90% of cars on the road. The bits are easily available, they're the cheapest to insure, and because most people seem to be lusting after G60s and VRs, there are some bargins to be had. For all the trouble mine's given me/is giving me, it's a cracking car. Good luck, Tom -
According to the manual, VW recommended (in 1990) 20-40w oil for the 1.8 16v engine, in a temperate climate such as ours. However, at the bottom is the usual caveat about this being subject to change. Has anyone tried using the Castrol 'High Mileage' Oil in their 'rado, and if so, is it any good? I used it in my Passat with no probs, but that's slightly different... I thought it might be a good idea to change it after it got up to 134 degrees C after my problem at the weekend... Cheers, Tom

My header tank seems to have a crack in it, so it's not staying pressurised. I've ordered a replacement, but it won't arrive until Tuesday. Someone mentioned that it might be possible to do a temporary fix with silicon sealant as I'm supposed to be driving to a Black Tie Ball tonight in Ripon. Can anyone tell me if this is possible or a good idea come to that, and will it hold? Any advice appreciated, Cheers, Tom

There's something very wrong with your luck man. Hope you manage to find a witness and track down the b*****ts that did it... Tom -
Scumbags, good luck in getting it sorted. Tom P.S 2 Chavs jump off beachy head, who wins? Society.

Seeing as mine's in the bodyshop at the moment getting the few bits of rust sorted out, it had a new head (and the rest) a couple of months ago and I got a CAT1 alarm fitted just after I got it...probably a little while! I have been thinking about selling up recently, because it's costing me a fortune, and running something more reliable and frugal would make sense...but when has sense been a factor in Corrado ownership? The main thing that makes me want to keep it though, is the sheer pleasure I get from driving it. I've just got back from Lincolnshire in work's 1.7TD Ashtray, and I took the fun way back, except it was no fun at all. Nasty handling, unresponsive engine, and the feeling that I was going to be pitched into a ditch at any moment. I know it's a different car, but the C looks great, is (reasonably) practical and provides a massive grin factor whenever I drive it. I'm going to re-visit those roads on Saturday I think.... Sorry, simple answer, at least a couple of years unless I'm forced to sell. :-)
-
So who's going to do the joke about the BMW and the hedgehog then?
-
Blown, I know what you mean. The combination of my engine rebuilt and the crash last year has made me a lot more careful with this C than I was with the last one. I no longer 'pour the sauce' on every road, but only those with a reasonable surface and visibility. Find one with both, open her up and enjoy... Cheers, Tom

N reg blue VR at Castle Howard today. Could have been the one I saw in Harrogate a few weeks back so probably no-one on here...
-
...and you could probably sell the moonroof to someone on here that has a broken one (which isn't uncommon :-)). Cheers, Tom

Anyone did such modification: SLK kompressor on G60 engine?
TomB replied to Karoliz's topic in Engine Bay
I know that one of the guys in the Corrado Club of Canada has done it, as his car is pictured in the calender. Might be worth popping onto their forum and asking about though. Good luck, Cheers, Tom -
Welcome to the forum man, nice valver in a nice colour :-)

Welcome to the forum man, that's a nice looking car. Cheers, Tom

Car: 1.8 16v Exhaust: Powerflow Verdict: Good fit, with no bumping or vibrating when you floor it (like my last one). Nice subtle tailpipe that fits the gap and the shape of the car perfectly. The car has a beautiful burble at idle and is quite quiet until about 3000rpm when it gets louder, but becomes more suble above about 4500-5000rpm. Not intrusive on the motorway/dual carriageway, but loud enough to let you know what's going on in the engine bay. The sound when travelling is so good that I sometimes don't bother with the stereo or turn it off to listen to the engine note! The system was fitted by Coullstar, so I can't comment on the service from the garage or weight, but it was £320. Cheers, Tom

dannyc, if it's got an uprated loom and your headlights will not work on dipped, then it could be the relay is bust (that was the problem on mine). Welcome to the forum, Tom
