Hmmm, I like the sound of that. Something for the summer though I think (my finances are still recovering from Christmas). Cheers, Tom

Bunch of utter ar$eholes. Good luck with getting it sorted, and I hope there isn't a next time. Tom

1.6 mk 2 golf, or if you really want to save cash, take the diesel route and find a 1.6 or 1.9 tdi passat. They'll happily cruise at 90mph while still returning 40mpg, and are suprisingly sure-footed. Good luck! Cheers, Tom

Yup, got mine before Christmas. Cheers, Tom

Cheers. First on the list is to sort out a few rust spots that are trying to break through! After that, I'm going to start saving... :-) Cheers, Tom

Finding this forum Finally buying a 'rado after wanting one for 10 years! Moving in with my good lady Not getting fired by Notwork Fail :-) Happy New Year All! Tom

Well, it's taken a while, and but I've finally scanned some photos in (as the ones from my phone just didn't do it justice and made it look pink). While the car did belong to Coullstar before me, and I haven't made any external changes, I thought I'd post some shots up. Cheers, Tom EDIT: Removed badly coloured shots.

Caterham or the Rally car. I can really recommend the Caterham though having driven one at Silverstone on a similar day. Wet track + RWD = Spin! Enjoy! Tom

Nice one slot! New wallpaper for me.

If you sign up, you get access to the most amusing forums (fora?), such as Fight Fight Fight! where threads moved if they get insulting/too out of hand. There are some amusing cars posted on there (including that Beige CroozeMids Corrado), but there are also a lot of fools on there... Definately worth browsing though. I'm pretty sure that someone from here posts on there as well as me, has a VR6 and always makes sound and well reasoned arguments. Cheers, Tom

Winter driving. Awareness of diff. betn air and road temps.
TomB replied to craigowl's topic in General Car Chat
Nice one. Thanks for that as I'll be doing a lot of driving over Christmas and was confidently bowling along yesterday as the outside temp was reading 3 degrees. Cheers, Tom -
Bad luck man, I know what you mean about the morning after. I was going to take my C out this afternoon, but I think I'll leave it until tomorrow after the excesses of last night. Good luck with 2005! Tom

Gutted for you man, but to echo to the trend of others, you're all right and at the end of the day, no matter what you feel, it is just a car. I was the same when I wrote off my valver. Get down the pub, and remember, Insurance Companies' main job is to screw you out of money. Fight them until you get a good offer...and then buy a replacement :) Take it easy, Tom

I'd have to disagree with you on that M777CUSGTI, I have to say that I think that they look a bit gash. Of course, this could be down to the stupid ignorant b*tch who needs her eyes testing that has nearly run me down TWICE on a pedestrian crossing when the lights have been against her.. Hmmm, caltrop time methinks...

Being no mechanic, I'm happy with my valver as it is. It's been tinkered with under the bonnet, and I bought it for driving experience and the love of driving rather than planning to do anything to it. I love the looks, handling and sound of it, and apart from mechanical repairs I can't think of anything I'd like to do. Cheers, Tom

coullstar, all is very well, in fact this is the only minor niggle I've had! Like I say it's a minor problem, and one of those things that it would be nice to do, but not essential... It's still running beautifully, and I look forward to getting in the drivers seat every time :) How's your valver coping with the commute? Cheers, Tom

I think that like Scirroco, it means 'Desert Wind,' although I could be wrong. Cheers, Tom

Well that answers my question of what to do with some of the 3 days of A/L I have left :D Cheers Henny,

Cheers gents, that sounds like a good place to start... :)

at least my car looked good on the back of an AA truck!!
TomB replied to Rob_B's topic in General Car Chat
or indeed the pseudo 4x4 that is the Daewoo Korando... -
Sorry, but I didn't want to highjack another thread :) I know my gauge is a little dodgy, as it doesn't read the water temp at all, until the car starts getting hot (usually when coming back into town after a run). When it starts to work, the warning light starts to flash, and keeps doing so even once the temp is back down. The coolant level is fine, the fans are working, but I'd like to get it fixed just in case there ever IS a problem with the temp. Can anyone suggest where to start looking? Wiring? Behind the instrument cluster? Any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers, Tom

I reckon I could make it across the Pennines...

Placed my order. The calender looks excellent. Cheers, Tom

beeftech, I love the T16, it's just a shame that they only made 500 of 'em IIRC. I hunted high and low for one, but to no avail (but probably just a pipedream if he has it insured for £50K!).

goodridge, don't bother with the phone, do it all by letter, and keep copies. I've just gone through this exact procedure with Highway, and may I say what a bunch of fools they can be (I'm in the middle of reporting them for malpractice). One trick they tried to pull on me was the 'principle of indemnity one' where they send you a letter saying that 'We will not increase our offer because you only paid X for the car.' THIS IS A LIE. Their policty document clearly states that they will either: 1) Pay the value that the car was insured for 2) Pay for the cost of a replacement at the value of the car immediately before the accident 3) Pay for the cost of repairs to the car They will only pay the cheapest one though, and as the last point doesn't apply, either hunt for similar spec/mileage ones on autotrader etc. They also use Glass' guide as the book price as to what it's worth, 'adjusted' by the inspecting engineer depending on mileage, condition etc. Have you got any photos of the car looking mint? That may put the wind up 'em. As to the status of the car, if it's a Cat B write off (as mine was) , the car is not allowed back on the road (although you MAY be able to buy it back if you put in a claim for repairing it soley for racing use). More likely is that the car will go to Holden and Barnes plc (http://www.hbc.co.uk) once a settlement has been reached and be auctioned off to a scrappy for parts. You can buy it back from here, but like any auction check the terms and conditions of their website just in case. Sorry for the length of the post, but I know exactly what you're going though, having fought the exact same b*stards for 3 months to get a settlement. Good luck, keep fighting, and sing out if you need any more advice. Cheers, Tom
