  1. Cheers, gents. I've spent this morning writing them a letter making stevemac's point about if the car was a gift. I've also pointed out that they only made 9000 RHD Cs and that my eBay purchase was a fluke. Many thanks for your help all, much appreciated. Cheers, Tom
  2. Ladies and Gents, any comments and suggestions welcome. I've been in a dispute with Highway Insurance over the value of my written off 2.0l 16v Corrado (1995 M reg with 161,000 miles). I had an offer from them for £2000 (not including the deduction of my excess of £250) a couple of weeks ago. I rejected the offer and submitted 7 photos, garage bills for about £600, and 4 ads from autotrader for similar age, similar mileage, similar model Cs, all of which were over £3000, and the current value as listed in Parkers. I have just recieved a letter saying that they are unable to increase their offer for the following reasons: 1) I only paid £2100 for my C. (I won it from eBay) and that the principle of indemnity will place me "back into the position you were (sic) prior to the claim 2) It is possible to "replace the said vehicle for the offer already made as (I) have previously done so" although I've only been in one accident if IRC. It states in my schedule of insurance that they will either pay the market value of the car, the amount which I had the car insured for (£3000) or the cost of repairing my car. As the car has been written off the last one doesn't apply obviously. Does anyone know where I stand? Please? Cheers, Tom
  3. I like it, it's not your usual 'bolt bits on job,'and he's obviously put a lot of time & money into it, although it's not something I'd ever do myself. Not too sure about the colour mind you. :)
  4. May well be something wrong with your MFA readings... My Valver (2.0l 16v) never indicated anything better than 34mpg, but I got an average of about 450 miles from a 15 gallon tank. The 2.0l 8v will be the best for economy, but by most accounts it's nowhere near as much fun when you use the load pedal :) Cheers, Tom
  5. Thieving b*stards. Check your fuel level as well just in case... Last time someone broke into mine, they had half a tank out as well. Good luck with getting it sorted. Tom

  7. There was an update on the ClubGTI forums, and it looks as if the cops have (for once) got the situation in hand, due to somone spotting them doing it a second time (same road, 7 days later) and getting the plate details... Fingers crossed. Cheers, Tom
  8. AndyVR6, that and one cracked front foglight :) Guess we've all been there... I was walking up the hill on Toft Green on my way to work, and he came past scaring the cr*p out of me! It's sounding very sweet indeed. His mate's got an L - Reg Valver for sale on Autotrader as well that I want.... Come on insurance company! Cheers, Tom
  9. AndyVR6, the Blackberry VR6 is owned by the a chap who works in the car alarm/audio place opposite where I work, he's just got it to replace his Mk2 Golf... Porsche Alloys, purple interior etc. Not on the forum though as far as I know. I'll go give him a flyer next week... Cheers, Tom
  10. A very nice early spec Black G60 J433 *** (apart from a ding in the driver's side front wing) parked on Albermarle Road in York on Wednesday night as I was dropping off a mate. I stopped to have a look, and I must say I don't envy whoever it is with the speed bumps around there! If it's no-one on here, then I'll put a flyer on next time I'm there. Also I keep seeing a (J Reg?) white G60 around town as well. Saw it about a week ago and gave the thumbs up as he drove past (I was on foot). Cheers, Tom
  11. Ah ha ha ha ha ha! Marvellous. I love it! My Passat is a silver version of the one about (without the engine of course). He should definately rebadge it as a GL/Diesel for the ultimate in sh*ts & giggles. That's really got me thinking that maybe I should hang onto mine and start playing... Rock on! Tom
  12. Them refusing to re-instate your insurance is outrageous, especially as they refused to accept payment over the phone as offered. When I took out insurance with them, I did the entire thing over the phone, payment and all with no problems. I suggest writing a letter to the General Insurance Standards Council (http://www.gisc.co.uk) and raising the matter with them. Intermediary Chris Knott Insurance Consultants Ltd Grove Mills Cranbrook Road Hawkhurst Kent TN18 4AS Member Number 3969 Accepted into GISC membership 04/04/2001 Good luck in getting your money back mate, Tom
  13. Henny, that sounds right. When I took the stereo out of my Rado and fitted it to the Passat, I had to snip the red & yellow wires and cross them over as I had exactly the same problem. Cheers, Tom
  14. It is indeed, each to their own. It's his car and his money to do with as he choose. The wheels, eyebrow, wing mirrors etc. IMHO don't look too good, but if he likes it, then good for him. The spoiler on the other hand, again IMO, doesn't fit the look of the car nor serve a purpose. The C already has one. Not a matter of slating, just one of incomprehension. Cheers, Tom
  15. Blimey! I found the brokers themselves at Chris Knott to be extremely helpful and reasonable, although Highway who my insurance is with through them are proving to be a pain in the ass. Keep us posted man, as I'm currently still insured through them with my Passat. Cheers, Tom
  16. http://www.vwrelics.co.uk seem like a sound bunch. They buy restore and sell on mainly though, so if he's looking for a project his may not be the place to go... Cheers, Tom
  17. :) :) :) I shall get searching... I also have about 15 photos of the car just after I'd spent 3 hours washing and polishing it which I shall send to them. I never had the chance to post them up on here, as they were taken about a week before the crash. If anyone sees any ads for a similar spec Corrado, do let me know. I found 18 2.0l Valvers on Autrader, ranging from £1,300 - £4000, although none with as high a mileage. As to the rust, it was not visible through the paint, but there was a bobbling above the rear arch. Thanks again, Tom
  18. Bugger. It just seemed rude that I had the car insured for £3000 (not agreed value), and that the cheapest one I found on Autotrader a couple of weeks ago was £2800... I shall try and bargin them up. Thanks for the the advice gents, I shall try and bargin my way up to 2.5K but accept £2250 Cheers, Tom
  19. Ladies and Gentlemen, your assistance please. I've just rung Highway for the umpteenth time, and finally got a quote out of them for the write-off value of my car. I need your advice on whether I'm being unreasonable in my reaction. If I am, please tell me, because I readily accept that I'm going to be biased. My car was a 2.0l 16v, 1995 M reg, with 161, 000 miles on the clock. I purchased the car for £2,100 from eBay, and immediately spent £500 on replacing the exhaust, and getting it serviced (including having the cam cover gasket fixed). The interior was in good condition, the engine despite it's high mileage was running extremely well (having just sorted out the lumpy idle). There were 2 small dents, one in each of the doors, there was some rust above the rear wheel arch on the drivers side. The rear quarter panel on the drivers side had been replaced at some point in its history (unbenknowst to me until the accident). The Highway engineer has described the condition of the car as 'fair' although how he told that after the car had been rolled I don't know), and the offer is £2000, minus my excess of course. So realistically, £1750. I'm going to send them photos, and adverts from Autotrader to try and get more money, but am I being unreasonable in asking for £3K? Any advice greatly appreciated. Incidentally, if anyone spots any 2.0l 16 valvers going for silly money, please let me know so I can pass it onto them. Cheers, Tom
  20. You do indeed have a dream job! 8) I spent 12 hours hunting down the specific locations of the Dark Arches under Leeds Station Enjoy Friday.... Tom
  21. Welcome to the Forum man, and my advice is definately drive it.... The C is the ,ost enjoyable car I've every driven, with the possible exception of the TVR that one time... :) Cheers, Tom
  22. Peugot 205 Diesel. Not as slow as you might think, and a great grin factor when cornering (once you get over the shock of the body roll). Currently going on eBay for about £300-700. Good luck. Cheers, Tom
