[quote name=';734444]I'll put one up tomorrow of the oil leak I just discovered after taking it for it's first decent drive :( coming from the left of the engine bay' date=' actually dripping down off the very side of the splitter but too dark now to investigate properly...[/quote'] Hmmm..dripping off splitter? I'd have thought more power steering fluid if it's that far forward?

Very jealous! I took the Rado round France last year, was just brilliant for touring about. And lots of people in France kept ogling at it!

do I come back into the fold..........?
jamiehamy replied to 24V Renshaw's topic in General Car Chat
Mine is a daily and never really misses a beat. My theory is that being driven daily is good as there is no time for water to sit in places and rot it, and the sensors and working parts are always working, warm and lubricated. I wouldn't have another daily, this one is doing 20k miles a year in complete comfort :) -
Let's hear it for old cars! I completely agree with the sentiment, I've got an old T25 diesel. When I took it to Islay, the alternator started screeching (think the bearings have gone dry). Ended up taking it off and drove up without it. Not ECU and very little to draw current, so lasted the full 3 hours no problem. Not many cars you can do that with! :)

7hrs later and I still can't get the front subframe off?
jamiehamy replied to elliott's topic in Drivetrain
The thing I've found most rewarding with mine is that each time I do something to it, it is def a bit better to drive. It might sound like stating the obvious, but from the work you've done, you'll probably agree. It's adictive tho. I keep wanting to imprive different aspects. Picking up a new gearbox tmrw and got high hopes I'll reach the end of the tunnel for a nice driving experience. Oh, and just on the old/new car thing, I've been driving my friends A3 3.2 for a few days and always prefer getting back into the Rado. It doesn't run out of steam at 5krpm :) -
Actually?! Should I be surprised?! Hmm...lol

I think the funniest, but also scariest bit of this is the fact the cops were, pretty much, outsmarted for long enough. Lots of people about, wrong way down the road, reversing at high speed. I'd have quite happily justified to my boss, and the taxpayer, why I rammed my piece of crap Seat into him to disable the car. £10k or someone's life? (I don't think that's being too dramatic in this context). Some cops should have got their balls roasted for that display.

Led backlit Heater Control panels for late Corrados
jamiehamy replied to RadoVirgin's topic in Group Buy Feelers
Interested with red and red/blue in centre. -
White G-reg Corrado at Linwood roundabout tonight. Wullie was that you? :) I love it in white, I reckon the best colour for a Rado.

I got mine from Amazon for £45. Got them for a TT and discarded rear ones. Cheapest I could find...

Spiggot rings...were an issue for me. Two had come off somehow, probably got left on the hub and then discarded. New set sorted it. Although 11 weights on the wheels didn't help. Got it done properly and down to one! lol ---------- Post added at 09:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:53 PM ---------- Also, the missing spiggots didn't cause a constant vibration, similar to how you described. For me tho it was worst at 65-75, smoothing out above and below that. Not that I do over 75 on the public road of course

You could legally have a car taxed and sitting on the public highway without insurance. Yes, you needed insurance to tax, but that was all. SORN only covered untaxed cars. Judging by some of the posts (and I don't mean this in a smart-alex way),. but DVLA have failed as so far no-one seems to have correctly understood the changes and how they differ from the past. And that's with TVs So if anyone has a Rado that is taxed sitting somewhere quiet without insurance because the engine's knackered or something meaning you can't/don't drive it, then you better get it moved! Or if you park your car in your garage with tax and only insure it occasionally, you can't leave it in the garage (with tax) and no insurance. You'll need to declare SORN, refund the tax, and then when you want to drive it for a few weeks, insure it, tax it, drive it, then start again by SORNing, refunding tax and so on. So yeah, slightly contrived maybe, but at the end of the day, there are many legitimate reasons you might have your car sitting on the road taxed but not insured. Engine could be goosed and you're waiting to find a new one, you're going abroad for two months with work, you've had a short ban, you've broken your leg... All these events would mean you would likely want to cancel or suspend your insurance for a period, even more so if your premium is high and you don't want to waste money. So fine, SORN it. Now you have the problem of finding somewhere to keep it... Edit - I wrote this before reading t700bes's post, but my use case is now proven :)

The law previously only required you to insure your car whilst it was being driven. So if you have a 'weekend' car, like a VW Camper/van, then you might be a lot cheaper only insuring it using Temporary insurance for the few occasions you use it. If you don't have a drive, you can leave it taxed and keep it on the road (legally). Now however you must have it insured to keep it on the road, despite having tax. So if you don't have a driveway, you're faced with insuring something for a whole year that might only be driven for 30days in that year. But yeah, to your point Wendy - I don't pay attention to the media because of the reasons mentioned below (or above depending on your forum settings!). Only use BBC News online and an online local site. But it def seems to be that there is a requirement to watch media in order to know about the law - there is no other 'one stop shop' that is easily accessible to get this info (that I have found). Ah well..

and neither do I watch TV. I note with intersted that this new car insurance law has come into play and find the follwing interesting from BBC News "The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) will work with the Motor Insurers' Bureau to identify non-compliant drivers. The two launched an advertising campaign a month ago to raise awareness of the change in law" Now If you don't have a TV, which I don't, then how can this be an acceptable way of informing people of a new law that will absolutely affect them? I rarely listen to radio news now either, but I do still peruse BBC News. Now, yes, I found out just because I'm nosy and also on forums, but it does raise the question in my mind - How many other changes in the law happen that I've no awareness of, and how can you be expected to abide by these laws if you have no idea about them being introduced? There seems to be no robust mechanism to allow people a simple understaind ofwhat's going on. I know it's a not a new question, and ignorance is not a defense, but this constantly pee's me off. The DVLA surely should have written to ever single keeper of a vehicle and told them. Yes it would cost, but that should have been considered when drafting the law. Grr.... No, yes, maybe?!

This year I found the most competitive company to be Aviva, direct on their website. Did a quote for the Rado that was significantly less than elsewhere, went to the point of buying a few times online (until entering payment details) and then stopped. Next night i got a phone from them and they tried to get a better price. They got it down by £100! Also, I bought a T25 the other week and have no NCB for it, so was getting stuffed everywhere. Roll on Aviva and their Multi Car Policy. Would have cost too much to transfer the Rado onto it ( £300 quote difference plus cancellation charges for existing policy, however they gave me a quote of £288 for the van! No NCB, 3 convictions declared, fully comp. I was gobsmacked and paid right away :) I can put the Rado on the multicar policy next year. So, try Aviva...lol

Dear Mr Wullie, We would like to thank you for raising your concern about the terminology in document , with particular reference to (please refer to website www.confused.com for actual text). We would like to highlight that these documents have been subject to intense scrutiny and are set out in a such a manner as to alllow no dubiety about the aforementioned subject. We have worked closely with the organisation dedicated to making everything clear (see website http://www.plainenglish.co.uk/files/howto.pdf) and trust you have recognised this when reading the documents. We will however take your feedback on board next time we decide to draft a silly bit of legislation that you didn't vote for and will most certainly not agree with - but let me be brutally frank - if it's a daft and dreadfully contrived piece of legislation to begin with, then how do you think we're going to be able to explain how it works?! Kindest Regards, Mr DeeV Elly.

Whats the worst thing youve done to ur corrado
jamiehamy replied to CorradoDriver's topic in General Car Chat
I'll get tube of the year award for this, but hey. This happened about 4 years ago, no excuse but over cooked it coming out the roundabout on a slightly damp road. Doink. Was very lucky, it hit the tree truck at fairly low speed and square on, so new bumper, bonnet, cross member and slam panel and I was back in action. Was very lucky I never hurt anyone else too :( Absolutely not my proudest moment, have calmed down a lot since then. -
Glad you're enjoying it and getting benefit from the Forum - it's a great place to be part of. I find driving my Corrado is becoming more and more rewarding the longer I have her. I know her and all her quirks well now and am, bit by bit, improving what has deteriorated with age. I could not bear the banality of a 'modern' car... :)

Hi all, Not in a rush, but looking for a VR6 gearbox. My change is very gratey and having changed oil and lubed the mechanism it's not improving. 182k miles must be taking their toll! Anyway, this is in the off chance someone local has one they would sell. I'm not wanting to spend a fortune as it's not urgent. I'm thinking up to £100 or so? Ideally would like one with under 100k. Anyone? I'm near Glasgow and happy to travel a wee bit to get one. Going to Hull next weekend just in case anyone is en-route! Thanks, Jamie :)

I agree, NCB is a nonsense. So you have two NCB's on two different cars, then crash one and claim. You are still allowed a NCB on the other car, even though you've claimed?! Hmmm...
-
Stunning. If only I had the cash to get mine resprayed, I'd love it to look like yours. If we do a Scottish meet sometime, I'll be parking miles away from yours in order not to give me a showing up!

?*cough - 30k for a fast pram with a hideous interior?! My 30k would go on: Mint Rado - 5k Scimitar - 2k S2A Land Rover - 2k V8 Range Rover Classic - 3k Porsche 968 - 10k 205 Gti - 2k Self build a garage to house them (assuming I got planning and space in a garden) - remaining money. Fools and their money...

On the Halfords ones, I've got mixed views. I've had the smallest one for years and it served well, only begining to die in the last few months. Got bought a Halfords Pro 2.25tonnes jack for Xmas 2009 and it's already started to rust. It's rarely, if ever been outside and regularly cleaned, so I'm not impressed. Next time it'll be a proper Sealey one.

Good stuff Wullie! I'll be doing the same after the by-election. :)

Whatever sister...lol
