  1. You need to compare the VCDS reading from the blue temp sensor to the dash guage. A healthy VR runs quite cool on the cruise, around mid 80s water temp this time of year. That's barely above 70 on the guage on mine. Sometimes it's just a lazy yellow sender (now black) and / or dash gauge. But as RW1 says, if it's taking ages to warm up and the air temp from the heaters is only luke warm, then it's definitely over cooling.
  2. What's that then? Waiting for the 4th date before peeling her knickers off instead of the 2nd?
  3. Do you know who the owner of the Garage is Jim? Could just cut out the middle man? Estate agents, pfffff. Up there with Insurance companies and bankers imo.
  4. Stick with the standard VR6 flywheel. The R32 is already a bit too responsive low down!
  5. Because the 12V sump is deeper. If you use the R32 pump with it's shorter pickup, you'll end up with surge problems. Well, worse than normal! The R32 used a baffled sump for a reason and I'd be inclined to use it personally. I'm also using a lowered Corrado with an R32 engine and I don't have any clearance issues with the sump at all. In fact, it sits higher than the wishbones!!
  6. You jest but people will want 'retro' phones again when they get sick to death of the stupid little cliquey in-fighting about who has the gayest smart phone.....
  7. Absolutely not! He wouldn't have signed off the 5 as it currently stands either.
  8. Interesting they have the Passat seal shown for the Corrado as it's completely different, as is the repair kit.
  9. Let me know as I'm having a bit of a clear out :D
  10. Yeah can't say fairer than that at all! :D It's hard to diagnose noises on a forum though. I do know that diff whine gets progressively louder the firmer the gearbox mount gets. But with each step up in stiffness, the gearshift improves! So as usual, it's a mixed bag of compromises and gains. I've had my 203K old gearbox rebuilt twice over the years. First was just a general refresh, and then again when I had the Quaife and 3.68 FD fitted. On both times, the layshaft bearings have become noisy not many miles after the rebuild. This would be the familiar "rattling marbles" noise that goes when the clutch pedal is pushed down. That's what I meant about noises coming as standard with 02As :D They can make the noise for years and not cause any harm though. Is the O2J any better? Was thinking of fitting an 02J from a Polo GTI onto my VR6 bellhousing so that I can use the dog bone mount. Is this possible?
  11. Best pads you can get?! Hardly. Average. Strictly, average.
  12. You need a 12V oil pump if using a 12V sump.
  13. I have a 120A alternator surplus to requirements. Was refurbished (new bearings, slip rings and brushes) about a year ago. £60 posted.
  14. I was told the seal is back ordered until Feb 13. So buying overseas might be the only option!
  15. Awesome stuff! Did you manage to sound insulate the bulkhead? Loads of engine noise comes through there as you said!
  16. As the material is only 1/4" thick, I'd be interested to hear how it compares to the OE foam's sound absorbency.
  17. All gearboxes whine to a certain extent. You just don't hear it normally because the factory spec mount absorbs it. As soon as you move away from the factory spec rubber, it becomes audible unfortunately. It's perfectly normal. If the gearbox doesn't crunch or jump out of gear, it's fine. Noises come as standard with 02As :D
  18. Nothing to worry about and the whine comes from the diff / gears, not the bearings ;)
  19. Haha, repeat that statement when you have all 3 poly mounts fitted ;)
  20. If the noise goes / changes when the clutch is pressed, it kind of does suggest it's gearbox or clutch related unfortunately. As Coullstar says, a fat midrange and 4x4 kills the gearbox. VRTs normally spin the excess torque away as they're FWD, but in 4WD, the gearbox has to absorb ALL of it if the tyres grip and clutch doesn't slip. 20mpg!! Is the geometry OK? Ah, you're running a syncro rear beam? I heard they run shed loads of toe. My VRT returned 27mpg overall and that was 400hp :D
  21. And make sure they are actually INA before using them. Look inside the bucket and it's stamped inside. GSF have sold unbranded ones before and they're basically just paper weights. You could have just sanded your existing tappets with 600 grit wet and dry if they were quiet ;)
