  1. I thought 17" As were 7.5" width? Agreed, As are among my favourites but they are heavy and the laquer chips VERY easily, leading to corrosion on the diamond polished outer rim. I used to have some 15" As on my MK1 and they ruined the handling to be honest, they were too wide and too heavy. The Borbet C looks very good on a Corrado too and they're lighter and won't foul the caliper. Stil Auto Sigmas are very similar to As (actually nicer imo) but I don't know of any UK suppliers. Kev
  2. Has anyone used one on their C? My mate emigrated to Southern Ireland at the w/end and left me a whole load of car stuff that he didn't want to take. Among the boxes was this car polisher, never used. It has a buffing pad on it the size of a dinner plate, so looks like it could buff a car up in well under half the normal time. Just wondering what the pros and cons are of these machines as I've never used one? Cheers Kev
  3. Have a look on here to get something concrete before shouting at them down the phone, not that you are in the wrong. Some companies just hate complaints and think the customer is always wrong. http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/ Kev
  4. Two visits there would cost you the same as the software and lead from http://www.ross-tech.com ($199 dollars + shipping) There is also http://www.vagcom.co.uk but they want £220 for the same thing. I've found ross-tech are better/faster anyway. Also, it's worth noting a number of us have VAG-COM, so meet-ups wouldn't be out of the question. Kev

    squeaky clutch

Or the clutch release bearing is tired.....
  6. Ah, then its probably not the car at all.... As you aproach the speed where the noise occurs, check your mirrors and blind-spot, if it is what i think it is then you will see a group of men skipping along beside the car (dressed as knights) with coconut halfs in each hand which they clap together - thats your noise :) LOL, don't give up your day job mate! The exhaust shouldn't rock solidly mounted, unless some plum has done that themselves. BY default, the VR exhaust is mounted on relatively soft rubbers. There could be a possibility the mounting bar on the pre-axle box has snapped off. Very common on the VR exhaust as it's heavy difficult to weld to, being a Stainless/aluminiumised steel hybrid. Get it on a ramp and check it out.... K
  7. My revs drop like a brick....so much so the damed ISV can't always catch it. VWs have always been cr@p idlers! I wish my revs were slow to fall like yours mate! Anyways......VR6s don't have anyform of switchery.....it's all potentiometer or solid-state I'm afraid, so the most likely cause is a sticking throttle cable. Kev
  8. Sorry, I meant 'was', not 'is'....well, I think the shell is still there as it suffered a rear ender but the engine prolly won't be there anymore. I'll try and give you some more info on it though and I saw it approx 2 years ago when I was into Golfs...... Basically, it was a left hooker in black....big bumper model, rainbow stripe interior etc. The breaker had no idea where it came from originally as it just turned up to his yard on a low-loader with no paperwork. It's definitely Euro though, i.e. no US side-markers or ugly bumpers. Anyway, whilst looking over the car for bits I noticed the digifant injectors and fuel rail on the inlet manifold. Very puzzled by that, I traced the wiring and hoses etc and then found what must have been a variation of the digifant brain and a carbon canister. Some Euro GTIs had CCs anyway, so it looks like in one particular market, the K Jetronic wasn't able to meet emission regulations. Sweden? Austria, perhaps? I don't think it would be much bother to retro-fit digi to a 16V yourselves to be honest. My 16V Turbo had a fuel rail (aswell as the K jet injectors) with VR6 injectors in it.....just requires a little work on the lower half of the manifold. I retained the K Jet metering head though (and used K Star to run the extra injectors) to keep things cheaper & simpler but the one in the scrappy had a digifant MAF. K

    THE Wheel page

Not my car unfortunately but VW's own 7.5 x 17 Santa Monicas look rather good on the C. Those and OZ chrono Evos are my current favourites.
  10. Isn't that the same colour the UPS trucks are painted? Brown is normally at the bottom of colour choice but it works very well on that car. I think someone should build a FedEx Corrado and see which of the two can deliver a parcel the quickest  Kev
  11. There is a LHD MK2 Golf 16V at my breakers with a Digifant brain, fuel rail, injectors, MAF and carbon canister etc. All looked factory. Must have been made by VW for a specific market...... god knows how my breaker got hold of it! Confused the hell out of me when I saw it but it's definitely 1800 and no K jet stuff in sight. Kev

    MOT

Same here on Saturday. No faults found, even though I'm convinced something is loose on the suspension. The seatbelts always feel a little strange afterwards though, after they've been pulling on them on as hard as they can! Kev
  13. That's very true....but Winter + crawling under car = misery! Filling a 15 Gallon tank a few times a month is the main expense! Kev
  14. kev you should have come and said hi   I wasn't sure if it was you or not at first, but had an idea.......it wasn't until you went home that it dawned on me, Automatic VR6 Golf + Yellow 20 VT = Penny dropping! I' m sure our paths will cross at Stealth again some day  Kev
  15. They're called "Curra-duh" in carrot crunching East Anglia...... K
  16. Indeed, the girly pink sh1t! Interesting you have crud in the coolant system. A sure sign of neglect by a previous owner. VW engines are not renowned for sediment buid up. Still, if VW claim their blend of glycol is 'sealed for life', then customers cannot be blamed for not replacing it every 24 months! K
  17. As with anything....an item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. But bear in mind how much the tick-box on the car's original options list is going to set you back....should guage the seat's worth over X amount of years. For instance, my mate ticked the Recaro option on his putrid yellow Cupra R and that added an unbelievable £1400 to the car's cost.....still, that did include matching rears and door cards. K
  18. Indeed, shorts, black leather + this years summer temperatures = ouch! Kev
  19. I have the Clifford Concept 300 manual to hand if anyone needs any info. K
  20. Go for it..... Enjoy. Kev
  21. Might be the thermostat. If the bottom hose gets hot and expands and the top hose remains cold, the stat is stuck shut. Otherwise a blockage as Steve mentioned or an air-lock. Kev
  22. Same here. Is the boot light switch embedded in the latch box somewhere? Must get round to sorting that some day.....tis on the 'to do' list. Kev
  23. I think the front of the Corrado looks fine as it is but thumbs up to dazG60 for getting into the spirit of things. You'd never catch me knocking up silly things in my workshop (aka utility room!) Kev
  24. There's also Amy that drives the yellow 20VT. Saw her and her other half at stealth a few months ago..... not that they knew who I was though! As for girlfriends driving Cs, I used to let my X drive my VR on her own....didn't have a problem with it. In fact, I'd rather she was in a solid german machine than her brittle Ford Ka. I also let my Mum and Dad drive it too, bless em! Kev
  25. Yep, I think all VR6s had red SACHS dampers at the back and black SACHS dampers at the front. Kev
