  1. Mine are white  They sold MK1s with cr@p brakes and an ineffective heater! And what about that American car with the fuel tank a couple of cms away from the rear bumper bolts.....! The Germans obviously don't drive much at night :!: K
  2. What engine type? What reasons do you have for suspecting the gearbox is from a different car? Why do you need the trans code? Questions questions......
  3. Ah, in that case it's defo the matrix....unless it's leaking from the engine somewhere.
  4. You won't know for sure until the suspension is apart. Might be handy to have a set of late spring caps on standby.....I think mine (94) had the larger ones....luckily Stealth kept both sizes in stock. Go on....get your wallet out! K
  5. Have a look at the picture Stevemac kindly provided above and you'll see a guide rail and a window guide that live inside the door. This is what comes loose and causes the glass to rattle, but if you've already done that then, fair enough. I have also replaced the weather strips and the rattle remains, so......? K
  6. Try ringing a VW dealer and see if that number comes up with anything. Corrado Gearboxes are all prefixed 02A and then have a seperate 3 or 4 digit model number. Ah, is yours an auto? Kev
  7. Hmmm....is your coolant going down quickly then?
  8. Volvo and Saab drivers don't get any choice in the matter !
  9. How steamy are the windows? Just a bit in the corners of the windscreen or full blown get your chamois leather out, steamy? You might get a bit of condensation on the corners of the windscreen as the car warms up, due to hot air escaping from the heater ducts (they're far from gas tight) and condensating on the screen. But if the windows steam up completely, then yeah it's the matrix. Just need to know if it's shagging in the car during winter steamy, or just a wee bit of steam. K
  10. Hmmm...mine doesn't lurch about unless accelerating on rutted roads. Doesn't pull under braking either, but it does pull left instantly when I let go of the wheel. The tracking is known to be correct. I'm hoping these ball joints will sort the problem out! Cavaliers, LOL. I had a Burgundy 2.0 GLi for about 2 months, which was about as long as I could stomach it. Horrid suspension......even the 130bhp SRI's suspension couldn't cope with the power....and the 16V Astra GTE was a complete nightmare.....very quick though! K
  11. I found the same with uprated bulbs in my old Golf, they just blow too easily, even in Winter! Just changing the loom on a Corrado is enough to make a huge difference and modern Xenon 60/55 bulbs are almost as bright as 100W jobbies. The bulbs in the Corrado are H4 for the mains and the spots are H2, I think and the sidelights are the bayonet variety (just in case you buy some Osram H4s as they come with free Phillips blue ice side light bulbs). K
  12. The rattle is nothing to do with the weather strips, but what Julesz mentioned on the second post. There are some guide runners inside the door that have either broken, detached themselves or come loose. The weather strips are just for 'leaning' against the glass to fill the gap, they're not designed to apply a specific lateral pressure to the window. K
  13. 100W bulbs - Illegal, but the lamps themselves are man enough for them. HID - too expensive. Best/cheapest solution - One of Gav's (or yours) looms with Osram Silver Star H4s. Kev
  14. Quantum silver works out at £2.40 per litre, which compared to £10 a litre for Mobil 1, it's dirt cheap. I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that VW do not endorse the use of oil additives in their engines, might even say that in the manual, in fact. K
  15. Same here. I'm going to get them to mark the wishbones in relation to the existing BJs and then get it all laser aligned etc at a later date. They should have a simple camber guage at least, which is just an adjustable set-square type thing with a digital readout. K
  16. Dr-mat, just picked up a pair of BJs from VAG for £25 + VAT, but that's with 10% CCGB discount. They're about £15 each without. Part number - 1H0407365 Just so you know.... Kev
  17. You need to find out if the Koni kit is designed for early VRs, or late ones as the srping caps are different. Smaller on late VRs, bigger on early ones. K
  18. If it's a standard VW bar, it won't make much difference. Front ARBs don't do an awful lot anyway, compared to the effect the rear one has. Neuspeed front bars are 25mm thick, so the 20mm won't give you much roll resistance. Kev
  19. Only from an aesthetics point of view. I know that H&Rs normally always give an arse down stance, but the Koni TA rears overcome that with the height adjustment. Same again if you fit springs that make the rear sit too high. K
  20. It does sound a little cheap. Basically they are throwing in the springs for free as £375 would normally buy just a set of 4 Koni Sport yellows! If it were me, I would just buy the dampers seperately and the H&Rs because if you don't like the Koni springs, you'll have the labour involved of stripping it all down again to fit the H&Rs at a later date.......have a scour of the classifieds for Golf VR6 H&R sport springs as they are the same as the Corrado ones. K
  21. Oh, and double check the rears are Top Adjustable as they're usually only adjustable off the car in those kits. The TA rears are quite important as they allow you to adjust the ride height. K
  22. Sounds like good value mate. IIRC the koni springs are stiffer than the H&Rs. Kev
  23. 450bhp from an 8V GTI engine? Sounds a lot. I take it it was taken out to 2.0, cross flow head, etc? What about the gearbox? There's no way an 8V 020 can take 450 brake. The Corrado's traction control is very basic and only works below 30mph. Most people don't even feel it working unless icy. To take the edge off 450+ bhp, you would need a standalone ABS traction control box from Racelogic. Kev
  24. IIRC it's at the bottom of the Bell housing on a flat section, stamped 02A - XXXX.
  25. Actually, the Golf gearboxed Maestro turbo had the worst torque steer - ever. And the worst gearshift - ever. The tubular shaft was about 6 miles long and the solid shaft, about 5 cm. Shame all FWD cars don't share the Alfasud's equal length driveshafts. I've never had an issue with TS in a high powered VW. You shouldn't get it, or trace amounts of it at worst, with a decent suspension setup and finely tuned geometry settings......and of course, sound ball joints  K
