Have you tried the coilpack and leads from your other VR6? And perhaps the ECU too? Kev

There used to be an old trick that worked with MK2 Golf MFAs, and that was to remove the battery negative lead and tap it on the battery post 7 times, and then it would work. Sounds very far-fetched and ridiculous, but it did used work! K

Nope, no leather for me! I'm just looking at some options because getting hold of an OE interior is going to be impossible. Not sure about the front seats only, £325 I would imagine. Give Dave a call on 01253 761252 K
-
Yep Front and back, inc headrests. Kev

£339 for the RA? That's come down in price recently then.... It should come with a laser ball which fits on the windscreen. This is for handheld and mobile laser telemetary cameras. The main unit takes car of fixed cameras based on GPS maps. It's won lots of awards and is generally recognised as one of the best. K

Just got off the phone and they charge £650+VAT for Corrado seats. They sound like a good bunch, honest and friendly. They've never done Corrado door cards before, so they haven't got a template, so they might cost more than the standard £300 to do, but seemed confident he could do them. Hmmmm....it's quite an expensive project! I'll give it some hard thought over the weekend! Thanks for the tip. K

Cheers guys, they certainly seem better value than MJ. I've seen some of MJ's work and it wasn't to my liking, maybe it was just the material the customer chose but the leather was scrunching up and there was threads hanging out like a cheap shirt. For a grand, I want OE quality, or am I expecting too much? I'm just fussy when it comes to leather! Has anybody here had any trimming work done by DB? Cheers Kev
-
Anyone know of any decent leather upholsterers other than MJ interiors? Ta Kev

The GPS detectors can only store fixed Gatsos, Truvelos and SPECs in their maps, which is why most of them also come with laser alerts, which are for those annoying Bar Stewards sitting on flyovers in their white "Safety Van" and hand-helds. Kev

Oh right, it's a torque sensing diff then, not a fixed lock like rear diffs? Nice one. I'll be interested to hear the results of yours.... K
-
On American cars it is (hence Bentley coverage of it) but on Euro cars it's a dummy sensor, there are no electrical contacts in it. Kev

Nah, the spoiler doesn't make downforce, it alters the aerodynamic drag at the back..... so a couple of clever so-and-so's tell me

I used to have a Mars MK1 and a Tornado MK2 and IIRC, there was a couple of shades available for each. i.e. Mars red no 1 and no 2. Had no idea which was which though, but I think the Y and A reg MK1s used no 2. K -
What's under the plastic covers at the base of the screen? How does it attach to the metal work? Bonding or lip seal? Or both? I'm just thinking that the quantities discussed and where it appears to be coming in corroborates to that area. I've not had a screen done on the C yet, so I've not had the pleasure of lifting the plastic covers and seeing what's under there. Given the fuse box is in where it is, a leak from the screen needs addressing ASAP, only trouble is, we foot the entire bill if the screen isn't cracked. Get the hammer out  K
-
Ahem, apart from the huge 2.9 litre V6, of course.... ;)[/quote:cffdd] Nah, the spoiler is  K
-
I thought that too...... Try unplugging them one by one and see what keels over and dies  K
-
I hope so. Both wheels transmitting power is gonna be better than one..... if you've ever driven an E30 325is, you'll know what I mean  Does anyone know what percentage lock the Quaiffes are? Or can you specify your own locking preference? Kev

My old Mars Red MK1 16V is for sale in the Ipswich area. I can get the details if you're interested...... -
I can't understand why there's so many leaking at the moment, mine is bone dry inside. My money is on poorly fitted replacement windscreens or missing/ripped door membranes, as these are the two areas most commonly disturbed during the car's life. Have a close look at the headlining for water marks and the door cards (leather more difficult to see obviously) I spent months tracking down a leak in a MK2 Golf.....same place, in the passenger footwell. It literally turned out to be a membrane that wasn't properly glued down - all the way round, especially at the bottom. First thing to do is take the door cards off and spray the door with a hose to see if any comes in the car. Kev

I find the VR responds better with light throttle inputs at slow speeds. If you're getting stuttering and flatspots when applying the gas after overrun, try checking the O2 sensor and MAF sensor. O2 can be checked with a multimeter. It should fluctuate between 0.1-0.9 at idle when warm and sit at 0.7 at 3500rpm constant, 0.8 at wide open throttle. The MAF there is no real check for, the ECU only reports "intermittant short to ground" or "No signal". Either of those cases means it's dead, but it may not show up at all but still be operating out of range, in which case you simply unplug it and see if the car feels any different to drive. If it doesn't, it's dead (Throttle position sensor is the substitute). 02 Sensors are £52 from VAG with Corrado club discount (£72 without) and MAF sensors are £150 exchange from Bosch. Kev

The brake pedal is supposed drop slightly when the engine fires, indicating the servo has pressurised, or vacuumed, what ever the correct terminology is. As for testing, I periodically stand on the brakes in the wet coming off a slip road at 80+. The car should pull up in a straight line and you will get one or two chirps from the back tyres as the weight throws forwards onto the front brakes. The harder the ABS pump has to work, the more you'll feel through the pedal. So on wet tarmac, you shouldn't feel too much through the pedal, but on sand, gravel and ice, you certainly will! Kev
-
The advantage of the ABS is a Racelogic traction and launch control box can be fitted. It will be more aggressive than the VW controller, if you really want TC that is. To be honest, TC is a bit hit-and-miss on a lot of cars anyway, even the work 2.0 Vectras can wheelspin for ages in 1st with TC engaged. An LSD is the best way to go..... K
-
My non-air con'd VR6 also has those 3 sensors wired up. The blue one is for the ECU to control fuelling, I think the yellow one is for the Idle Valve and the black one.....dunno! Could it be a dummy one like the one in the oil breather outlet, if air-con is not fitted? If you've got access to VAG-COM, try unplugging it and see if it throws a code. Kev

Spoiler stops working below freezing!?
Kevin Bacon replied to CorradoVR6-Turbo's topic in General Car Chat
OK, cheers Henny, Dr-Mat and G60Jet.....I now understand how it works! So if you want downforce, you'd use an upside down aeroplane wing shape? And if you just want to interupt the airflow and create a vortex to alter drag characteristics, you just use a Spoiler? Speaking of Vortex's, remember how MK2 Golf rear screens always get covered in crud due to said vortexes back spraying road dirt up? How come that doesn't happen in the Corrado? I rarely need to use the rear wiper! Is it just that the rear screen has a much shallower rake and therefore just doesn't collect dirt? Ta Kev
