Sometimes its not a dirty isv more a sticking one. Spray some light lube into it and check the flap opens and closes with a 12v pulse. It should open and close smoothly
-
Why not just replace with some slimline fans? I made a new harness to use the original loom connector. I can send some pics of the harness if you need. Hasan
-
I think if you remove the top slam panel bolts you can get access to the fan housing bolts. Just tilt the towards you for some clearance. Tbh its been ages since i took the front end off so i might be wrong
-
which bushes did you get oneohtwo? On another point, has anyone noticed any difference (better or worse) with PU bushes?
-
If the cooling system is being renewed and as Shaun says if you're standard it might not be necessary. If anything I'd give the block a really thorough flush.
-
i think quite a few were lost because of photobucket. Others are 'temporarily' unavailable since the migration to the new platform. I say temporarily as there is some work being done or planned to get them back.
-
well ive got the rear lights somewhere! Was on the hunt for that dash as I was keen to fit it into mine. Cant remember who had it but it seemed to disappear into the ether
-
Yup thats the way! Poor design tbh.

Yes generally copper which is then plated to prevent excess corrosion form copper salts forming. I think they use TSA. I deal with some heat exchanger manufacturers although this is for industrial plant, but i'll see if they can look into some rads for us. If anyone has an old rad they could measure up i'll ask the question.
-
i think for the auto it's only the top and bottom hoses that are different to allow another route to the cooler. The rads are (should be) identical.

get a tiny u-bracket, drill a few holes in it and fix it to the top to hold the cable sheath in place. The other thing i started doing was to make a similar profile with a nylon block. Didnt complete it as i got a replacement regulator instead. Think i've got some pics somewhere so i'll post up if i find them.

that really is a fabulous creation - your efforts have really been worth it. One less thing to worry about now

Very nice! I think the corrado mis underwheeled with 15s. 16s prob the best option.
-
i hate them too! Mine are all nicely greased but the drivers side on seems to struggle in the middle for some reason. I would do the following: Pop off the white base rollers, clean and grease. Use a light grease Clean the centre channel on which the main slider slides. I would use either a heavy oil or again some light grease here Finally, make sure the two side channels are clear - use a piece of cloth to remove any loose debris. Clean and spray with a silicone spray. If its still the same, you'll prob need to take the motor mech out, clean it and grease it up again. Not fun. But hopefully the first few steps should sort it Hasan

Nothing like installing brand new parts on the car! I'll prob get new polo parts just as soon as i get the Mk4 golf items
-
Thanks ABV - thats useful info. I assume the original cable bracket cannot be used?
-
Thats great, thanks. I've mailed a guy breaking a Mk4 golf gti (as suggested by swiftkid some months back!) and hopefully if he sends me a pic i can compare with the pic you've posted. Hasan.

its certainly quieter than previous years but some of us old timers are still here..
-
No worries I'll have a search for them. Btw the 2008 seat ibiza selector - will this be correct or us it too late a model? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264917793865

no its a car aircon compressor. Just had them in the ultrasonic cleaner which didnt do much. Will probably soak in ATF for a few days and see if that works. Can quite see why they would be so stiff as the ball surface is smooth (as you can see in the pics) and there's no evidence of corrosion at all..
-
Thanks Dox. Just wondering though, would the internals of these not drop out and fit into a new Polo shifter box? I guess the other issue is to get the correct selector tower... Hasan
-
is this one correct? If so. i'll get it ordered: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-POLO-9N3-GEAR-SELECTOR-CABLE-6Q0711061E-1-4D-5SPEED-MANUAL-5DR-2009/154203994072 or this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-POLO-6R-2009-2018-1-4-5-SPEED-GEAR-LINKAGE-CABLES-SELECTOR/202183523627?fits=Car+Make%3AVW&hash=item2f1313bd2b:g:1Y4AAOSw0VZbq0AJ

I had a sanden aircon compressor sitting in the garage for ages as it had seized up. Took it apart and theres some beautiful engineering there. Problem is with the pistons that are extremely stiff on both of the ball joints. These are metal in metal but theres no scraping or corrosion. I've sprayed them all with wd40 and gt85 and swivelled them a bit to work it in but they're still stiff. Any suggestions?
-
I just use a spanner on the tensioner itself to release tension. A bit easier and quicker. I had the same issue with the lobe breaking off one tensioner - i think its just cast alloy, so not particularly strong

test the isv by pulsing it with 12v. You should see the flap open fully and then close without getting stuck. Give it a light mist of oil to keep it moving freely.
