Blimey, looks scarey. Hope you're ok mate.

The ideal option is a plug-and-play, with some minor dremelling requirement. Apart from that the only other route would be the full works Audi job, which i dont want to do just yet. And I agree with you Kev, Lee's handles do look really superb.

When will it end? Man killed by thieves in his OWN car!
fla replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
Therer was an incident in Egypt back in the 80s where the sons of high ranking officials assaulted and raped a girl. There was a big attempt to cover it up due to their family connections. The result - the lads were hanged and this was reported widely. Now it is TOTALLY safe for women to go out at almost any time in almost any place. Maybe we need something similar to illustrate to yobs and the like that this is their likely reward. Instead we lock em up in a 5 star prison at HUGE cost to the taxpayer. Who's the winner there? -

Everything is too politically correct now - you cant reprimand kids as that is considered violence. If you do you'll be locked up for a long period. If you rob a bank you'll get 10, if you're 15 and you run someone over you can't be named for legal reasons and you get 3 years. It's totally topsy turvy. Bring back corporal punishment in schools (= batter the s--t out of the little brats!) - will solve an awful lot of social problems. -
Anyone know of any certain options - certainly the Leon one makes some sense. Worth looking in the scrappy.

Its a bit fiddly - i assume the two springs you are referring to are about 8mm long and about 3 mm dia. If you've got the switch open, you'll see the white nylon sliders (for each of the L & R buttons and the top one for moving the mirrors. If the springs have got silver caps on teh ends then they sit in the central holes in the two nylon pieces - the silver caps basically fit into a recess on the pcb to control position of the sliders. If they are just springs, then you will see two plastic prongs just by the top right of the pcb - these sit on these plastic prongs. Now to remove the pcb you need to be a bit careful - there is a small bit of melted plastic which holds the board in place - its also towards the top right of the pcb, near to the plastic prongs. Either melt it slightly with a soldering iron and then scrape it off quickly. Then ease out the pcb gently. You can also "chip" it off with a screwdriver, but be careful you dont damage the other side of the pcb as this carriers power to the leds and this part is VERY narrow. If it breaks, you'll have to solder a piece of wire (use a cut-off from an led leg) onto it. Not difficult just fiddly - take your time and it'll work out nicely. And make sure to get the replacement led orientation correct. When you replace the pcb use a blob of glue from a glue gun or something similar where you melted the plastic. HTH

The lines of the car i feel are somewhat spoiled by the crappy looking door handles. There are some golf ones available on ebay from time to time but when I spoke to the guys selling them who said they were unsuitable for a C. They were only about £15 iirc. They were similar to the Audi handles. Are there any others that would replace the existing ones? Even if they were a little more curved (outwards) that would look immeasurably better. Look at some more modern cars to see what i mean regarding the curvature. Whilst i love the Audi handles its too much of a large job to get it all cut, welded and resprayed. Ideas welcomed.

davebirl, how did you wire them and is there any problem with them receiving over 12V from the battery (usually about 13.5V iirc)? How did you wire them in to the switches?

Old thread i know but there are older ones resurrected. I've got a similar problem - the cable's NOT snapped, but the handle only opens the passenger side lifter. Opened the bonnet by twisting the cable with some pliers from underneath, not ideal but it did the job. But i cant seem to work out HOW the drivers side is supposed to open - if you pull the handle the cable should pull the arm connected to the lifter cam. But with the bonnet open there is nowhere for the cable to go - ie its fully relaxed. There is a channel about 3cm long where the lifter arm moves. This is free there is not seizing. It appears that there should be something to retain the white plastic collar in a different position, only i can work out what. Another thing, the handle has a retaiing plate for the cable which keeps it in tension. This looks like its bust - is there an easy fix or can i get a replacement clip. The hook at the end is also intact - i can still open the passenger side by pulling the cable directly. Hope this makes sense. Cheers all.

Its quite easy to remove - insert a thin screwdriver in the right side of the unit between the control panel and the housing (which extends across the roof liner) Carefully lever the control unit out. Disconnect the two plugs in the back of the control unit. There are two screws holding the rest of the housing in the roof - check these are tight, i guess this is where your problem lies. HTH

reaper1_3, any news on these?

v smart. Shame there are no prices on that link yet. Having said that the TomToms are pretty cheap - just need to get a nice adapter plate made up to fit.
-
Those are the rims on the beamer that I rate - understated but still with a little pose factor! No idea what they're called but they are certainly smart.
-
You can pick up the beamer for not more than the price of a good C! I was thinking of the beamer (again the 840) prior to getting the C but as someone said then it'd cost more than running 20 VRs. Then again, with the right rims the beamer does look superb. Plus I could "just" squeeze my kids in the back too.

Superb. I'd tint/replace the rear lights and you'll have one cool looking motor. Otherwise, very nice indeed.

whats r2d2 doing in the background?

reaper1_3, can you get some more info then?

reaper1_3, anyone else selling these?
-
reaper1_3, lookin good dude. Where, how, how much? Standard questions tbh. Cheers

Just been playing around with some leds to try and get the Andy Brookes effect but it looks crap. The red leds look slightly purple rather than a mild orange/red. Looks like EL tape or wire is the way to go - plus i dont have the time at present to go to the scrappy and pick up a heater panel, unless someone wouldnt mind obliging.....
-
bix, is the light levered out or something?
-
Prob a simple question - how do you remove the sunroof control panel - is it a question of slide to one side and remove? TIA
-
ToffeeRado, how did you get the front vents done? :offtopic1: Anyway, you're all bloody showoffs i hate the lot of you. Just because i've got crappy normal height. Very nice thread i would add.
