I usually avoid Topran items as they're pretty cheap quality, but interested to know if anyone has any experience of their rear bumps stops. Do they last long, do they actually act as spring assistors and any other pointers. For a VR with the bulbous base portion. If they crap i'll stick with getting Febi ones Thanks Hasan

That looks good. James are you going to get this strip? If not I might buy it and try it out and see how much work needs doing to make it fit. And of course how it looks aesthetically - although that will depend on my trimming ability

That's useful, thanks. I'll aim for -1deg and see how that goes. Do you do camber before toe, or the other way round, or doesnt it matter?
-
I found it quite useful but forgot to take account of the slope on my driveway. Planning to put it across the slam panel about midway to get a horizontal reference and then take measurements from there. Not sure how to adjust toe though. I guess it should be slightly toe-in? Also, what should the camber be? Around -1.5 or so?

Went to replace the front top mounts and thought i'd check the bump stops. Should have thought about it before but they were well and truly past it! Ordered 2 but was only delivered one so have to wait for the other one. Used a Golf Mk4 one from Febi part number 18365. I also had some Poly bushes but not sure if they were for the front or back. Anyway, decided against using them here might check the rear ones though. The top mounts didnt look too bad, tbh and the bearings were fine too but i think it was perhaps not a bad option. Looking to do the wishbone bushes and perhaps rear axle bushes next year Just drag and dropped the pics so the order is a little confused!

I'm interested in seeing where this is now too. Any ideas?
-
I also think it sounds like an immobiliser issue or leads in the wrong order. Out of interest, what ecu is yours? AG or perhaps CP?
-
^^^ this Leads are well made but when you put the metal clips on the ends they're very tight in the lead removal tool. I mentioned this to him when i bought mine some years back but he said he's never had any issues from any buyers...yeah ok..

Which parts aren't available now? I think there is an upgrade using a mk4 tensioner etc
-
Took out the front shocks to change the top mounts and found the bump stops had split. A couple of questions Which MK4 front bump stops are suggested? Which end are the cut from? Any recommendations eg febi (definitely not topran!) Which rear bump stops and where should these be cut down from? Mine is lowered about 40mm Thanks. Hasan

Wow! First time i've got some rare stuff!! I'll get some pics and post them up, then sell them on ebay for £5k!

Good info Shaun, thanks. Yes I'll get some of those springs. Looks a good idea. I pressed the faces of the cable bracket together slightly to make sure the cable doesn't drop out. Haven't tried it yet as the next job is underway now! - front top mounts Hasan

Mk4 rear brakes done. Changed the carriers too. New seals, slider pins and refurbed calipers. Hex head bolts were really rusted in. Even the irwins had a tough time! Access each side was awkward meaning the breaker bar wasnt allowed much movement. Passenger side bolts were cracked off using a short socket with a stilson at 90degrees providing the turning moment. I'll prob do the discs, bearings and cages next year. Btw Dox i found the old calipers from you. Might be a new project to strip and rebuild them!

really nice work there Chris. I think your attention to detail on the car is absolutely evident in your house build. Other than the quality it is also very aesthetically pleasing , both in style and colour
-
Theres still some stuff needing sorting - I'll have a rummage and see if they're in the chaos somewhere..
-
Yes, bought the same ones

I think these got lost in my garage somewhere prior to our house extension work. Ended up buying another returned set off ebay

Turns out that this is actually because the banjo bolt bottoms out in the caliper. Just used another crush washer on top. I'll post some pics shortly When you get your calipers i would suggest a trial fit of the hose off the car to see if yours also have the same issue. Screw it in without the hose or washers and see how far down the bolt goes. Then try it with two washers and the hose and then add another if necessary
-
Just done one side. The banjo bolt on the caliper needs to be done up really tightly otherwise it leaks v slightly. Ive use crush washers each side but it just seems to need to be tightened excessively....any suggestions or is this normal?

Ive got an old set of notes from Dennis on the now sadly defunct Canadian corrado club. I remember i had a real issue with the soldering of the relevant wires as they're so thick! Anyway, hope it helps. Just drop me a line if you need any more input. Hasan Wiring Modifications.doc
