Guy longer term I want the Climatronic as well. I spoke to a guy in Slough and Keith regarding these kits, some had blower motors supplied others used the existing blower motor from the car. I'll try to see if they are interchangeable. I'm not confident on this though.

Guy when you had your Climatronic installed, did you have the full ac unit from the donor car fitted behind the dash to replace the Diavia stuff?

Nope, you just unbolt the compressor and move the whole thing out of the way.

Diavia uses a unique blower, not the std VAG unit. The VAG AC blower unit is inserted horizontally as opposed to the fit from below std item. The Diavia is fit from below but does not look anything like the VAG motor. As many people are now having issues with these, the way forward may be to find someone who can rebuild these.

Fla, IIRC your car has aftermarket AC? The whole front of the car was disassembled in order to fit this. The additional piping makes it all tight and things were put back together by AC engineers. If it all works, best to leave it alone. :) When you do the auto to man conv you will see it all apart in all its glory.

Your right, my brother in law had a 156 and I swear it had the best steering of any FWD car I have ever driven. If it drives like that car did and with that bodyshell its going to be a runaway success. Just hope its not fat like most modern day cars.

Defo with you Beeftech. For that money theres a mahoosive choice both new and used. The Nissan does nothing for me, the new Alfa Brera does though, time to start another thread.

The local Fraud guy said £64 (std fraud price is 71+) all in but would not sell it to me if it wasn't going on a Fraud as he was worried it wouldnt and then be returned. Beware there are two types one with oil level sensor hole and one without. Aluminium pans can shatter if something hits them. The Mk4 bolts are required No gasket is needed, you use sealer. They take more oil about another litre. This is probably good as with the baffling its got to be good for starvation and resultant wear. I had a 1992 2.3E in Red with Speedline alloys. On the Plus side it was beautifully made, nothing went wrong with it I did 60K miles in it, the tyres never seemed to wear out and got a helluva load of attention. On the negative side it handled abominably, felt really heavy, brakes were somewhat adequate, the design of the tailgate meant it filled the boot with water in the rain, the rain gutters dont work so you cant open the windows even slightly in the rain and didnt like to Rev. I loved it for the wrong reasons, looks and so on, wasnt a drivers car at all. :-P

I rang the local stealer today and asked for a price on the std Mk4 alloy sump 021 103 601 L. I explained what I was doing and he quoted me £83.94 inc VAT . Quite a bit cheaper than 127+VAT. I'm thinking this must be wrong given the cost above of £127 + VAT. I will check tomorrow I think he quoted me for 021 103 601 B std steel.

Tim, You've got both JMR and G-Werks round the corner. No disrespect to the local guy, but unless he knows V-dubs his diagnosis / repair wont be as good as a specialist.

If you look at the new Fraud Focus, all the alloy stuff inside is painted plastic. You have to lokk really close though its done so well. Someone must be selling this paint somewhere.

Marc, If you sell it you'll regret it badly. You will not find one as good as yours without looking for a year or two or three. look at it this way. 4k on a mortgage at 5% is £20 in interest per month. If you pay capital then theres another £14 per month. On top of that do you have to buy another car?? Keep it man.

You could put a small jap backbox on and make it look really good, if its neat like Bens Have a look in biggerbigben's gallery

Fla, There is a VAG COM Forum on Vortex monitored by the SW developers. If your copy is legal they will give you the data.

Alot of good infor here on this. http://forums.fourtitude.com/zerothread ... 001&page=1 Just spent a while searchin Vortex, the Mk 4 sump fits but the little inspection cover for the transmission will no longer fit. Guess you leave it open, which sems to be what most do or fab something. I have mailed a US company for a bulk purchase. I'll post the reply when I get it.
