1. I'd say 40k but maybe less if running a small pulley like a 65mm so 30k ---------- Post added at 6:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 6:53 AM ---------- Cost of basic rebuild from £300 http://www.onlychargeddubs.co.uk/Services.html
2. That's obviously the backup plan but it's only done 10k miles... Autoglass made a right mess of my GF's new fiesta too, sealant all over the place and broken trim. The Golf is complicated because the wiper arms need to come off using a special puller etc...
3. Yeah they're a common rust spot - they go really badly there... New seals are about £120 if you can still get them but really it's the door that needs treating!
4. Pete - yeah I've done headlight glass, 3M do a kit for around £20 which works a treat Wasn't really worth it when lenses were £15 from VW but I replaced mine and 'refurbed' a pair which sold on eBay for £70! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Glass-polish-Restorer-Headlamp-Lens-Restorer-kit-3M-/321007665551?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4abd8c418f
5. Can't believe this, especially after yesterday - very sad :-(
6. Cheers guys, you can just about feel them but the scratches are not from the arm but the cetre bit that holds the blade on - why they are metal I don't know! Going to try some of this I think with the machine polisher and a rayon pad - good reviews http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-and-exterior/glass-cleaners-sealants/carpro-ceriglass-polish/prod_971.html
7. Feck knows how but my mum's managed to scratch the windscreen of her MK6 Golf after the wiper blades 'failed' - I suspect they got frozen to the screen and were used as the car's done barely 10k miles! (annoying as my current Lupo blades have done over 50k!) The middle part of the blade which is metal has then scratched the screen - anyone got any recommendations of products to try to remove before getting a new screen? I have a machine polisher if needed
8. The X relief relay may just need reseating!
9. Could be an ignition switch or factory imob issue - someone like the AA should be able to diagnose this fairly quickly for you...
10. You can still buy the originals from the http://www.vw-ClassicParts.de site
11. It's too low according to VAGCOM then - maybe worth trying another stat and checking the mix is correct.
12. Hi mate, wondering if there is an air leak somewhere so the wiring you hear is just it trying to open the fronts?
13. It's a good upgrade and you have the bigger ABS MC already so just need Calipes, Carriers, Pads and hoses to upgrade but depending on what wheels you have, I think if I was running a 20VT I'd have to go a bit better and go for the Seat 305mm Brembo setup - lighter and more effective.
14. Good advice owen - the chip needs to be setup for the correct fueling based on the pulley size and injector flow.
15. The plugs should sit behind the headlights - just watch the routing if the bumper is off as it can easily crush the wires.
16. You sure you had the right size Hex? some are 6 and some are 7mm What i'd do first is soak it in PlusGas then hammer a spline into it and maybe try to turn this while holding the nut where it is. Other options are to drive to a garage / tyre place and use a gun or maybe buy a 12V one - it may still just turn though.
17. This one just went out on the CCGB newsletter...
18. No it's the wrong type - that's the difference... The one you need doesn't seem to be available from there though but it does give the elring part number 2.9 VR6 1995 to 1995 (from Engine No. ABV014001) Manufacturer: Elring Part No: 714.230
19. Not really... well you can take the belt off easily enough with an M8X80 bolt to de-tension it and then see if it spins freely but you really need to take it out to check the blades etc are intact. You've had that car a while haven't you? what's been done in the past? say the stat and waterpump haven't been changed I'd maybe look at doing them both plus the crack pipe / housing and the new tank etc but depend how far you want to go
20. Has to be the thermostat (stuck closed or main water pump i'd say if the rad is cold - the mechanic should have checked this before it did more damage!
21. Many thanks - we're going to print the comments and give them to the family
22. Friday bump for this - be nice to get it up to £250 before the weekend! http://www.justgiving.com/ChrisRW1Gaskell
