Does your setup allow you to plug into VAGCOM? If so that might give you the answer. If not it will be a case of suck it and see, changing/testing all sensors will be the only way forward otherwise. Has the conversion been done since the last MOT, if so it might be wise speaking to Custom Code to make sure you have the right map.

I would consider that a Corrado G60 will be a good option, however you will never get away from the fact a Corrado is heavy. It is not so much the size of the car, more the weight of the panels. Good luck but you will be hankering for something smaller soon. Have a look at this, this is my Mk1 2.0l 8v at Castle Combe last year going past the camera car. It has cheapo ebay coilovers and standard size Mk1 brakes. Look what I am staying ahead of!

I think I saw this car this morning hooning towards Barnstaple, was on the lookout for Valerian in my old Corrado but saw this one instead. I was in the Leon so I won't have been seen.

For some reason the figure of 90 bhp popped into my head, I don't know where this came from, prob something i read a few years back!

You are spot on with the idle valve, these are renowned for playing up. On top of the engine you will see a small cylindrical valve, thats the critter. Could be worth trying to clean it before swapping. Sometimes this works, even if it is just a temp fix

I can't find the details of the bloke who sold me the engine as I cleared out my old PM's some time ago. To be honest I doubt it would make a lot of difference. I understand that you are pissed off, I am too, albeit I am not out of pocket to the same tune that you are. As for being a grand out of pocket, did you not get any money back from the turbo (£200 worth), head (well you won't have yet as you have not sold the engine.), the wiring loom was designed to run as much of the original loom as poss without resorting to seperate ECU, that was worth £300 itself as I bought that seperate to the engine. Just another question, had the head gasket gone on cylinder 1 as well, as I said above, I am thinking that we are talking a warped head that needed skimming, not doing this would have lead to low compression. Anyhow, as said, I have nothing to hide, and I won't hide, I will hold my hands up to this in the sense I sold you the engine, if I had known the problems associated with this I would not have sold the engine. Hope I can catch up with you (and Marcus) at some point in the future, I owe you a big favour of some description, (eg, if you or Marcus ever needed a car moving, I have a car transporter trailer these days and would gladly help you out, despite the distance from mine to yours) -

Christ, I had no idea, my name is mud now. :pale: I bought that engine in good faith off someone on Ed38 forum, but my financial situation changed and I needed the money back for my Mortgage. I am so so sorry that this has caused you so much grief :( I hope you managed to recoup some money off it. It sounds strange that you could not get compression, did you get the head skimmed when you changed the head gasket? Again, so sorry, was not my intention to stitch you up, I am off to see if I still have the details of the bloke I bought it off to give him some grief. :mad2: :bad-words: -
ABF will slot in with no problems, all you need is the block and head, all other ancilliaries will come off the old 1.8 16v engine. Same applies for the 2.0l 9a out of a later Corrado, though it's worth swapping the KR cams over to this engine to get the best out of it

This loom is different to the G60 Corrado loom does not have that black connector. If I can find my Bentley manual I will see if I can tell you what each colour does. The good news is that the black connector type of loom is the same as the later Mk2 8v loom to the fuse box. Still got my 8v loom (minus fuse box connectors), and will have look to see if can make sense of it.

Each loom basically consists of a live feed with a fuse in it (10 amp I think) which splits into 2 to go to both seats, on the return you have the earth. Would be very very easy to rig up the electric seats. If you have ever wired up an amp, this is easier

After 2 years away, I've just bought back my Corrado

Nice one, I reckon there are a few out there that would do the same, my first Corrado only lasted 3 days before someone went into the back of me. However the second G60 was ace, sold it as I was moving house. Given a chance I would have it back, even checked a HPI text check to see if it is still about, and it is! Don't know who has it though :( Thankfully got a VR6 I am doing up with my mate which will be for sale in a while, it is drivable so it could take a long long time to complete as I keep saying to take our time :D Thankfully still got my first Mk2, 8 years on and will be on the receiving end of a G60 when I get the time to complete it. I will never part with that car! -
I am 6ft 2 and I am more than comfortable. I think a lot of it depends on length of legs, body and arms. I have long legs for my height which seems to suit driving a C

Yes spot on, whip them valves out and you are warm again. If you don't want to renew you pipes use some copper heating tube to connect the broken pipes

Sounds like the classic blue temp sender problem. Very cheap to check in the sense you can have one from VW for less than £10. Blue sender is the one that sits on the front of the head in the plastic water flange.

Very strange, the pressure valves should reopen hence why people get the heat whilst the engine warms up syndrome. If I was you I would remove the bypass valves as they are a pain in the arse. I reckon that has what has caused your temporary overheating problem. If you look at the valves there is a small pipe connecting the 2. If that was to block it would cause a major pressure build up. I reckon your valves are part closing anyway so water is bypassing your heater. Get rid of them and you will be warm again.

Sounds like a potentially sticky thermostat, can't remember now whether I put a new one in when I built that engine. Also if it has the bypass valves and the pressure has built up with the rising temp the valves shut off. One thing to be careful of is that the header tank cap has it's little rubber seal located properly. Did it ever overheat on the temp needle? The only other thing I could think off is that the anti freeze is weak and some parts of your system have got frozen up causing a blockage. This usually causes the head gasket to blow or even the block to crack. Hopefully yours is a minor issue.

You could always drop a later spec interior into the old girl. My neighbour picked up a mint VR6 interior off ebay for £65 and condition is spot on.

Is it really 3"? How about using a system off a Golf 16v? 2.5" systems are fine for G60's Or you may find an early Miltek exhaust off a G60 will work, the mid box is a lot smaller. The Scorpion one is huuuuge

Head work is well worth it, especially if you have enlarged valves and it flowed well. The other guy you talk of has a few issues to sort I would guess. A close look at his torque curve would prob show up the answer, or he just has a boost leak

Engine mounts & Exhaust damage - can they be too stiff?

You don't have a flex joint in there? If you have not that will be the only answer to your problem. Even with stiff rear mounts the engine will move, potentially still enough to find the point of weakness and cause it fail. Get your power flow specialist to put in a flex joint before the decat if you can. -

VW changed the hanger types so you are correct to be concerned, you will need an earlier exhaust system. -

It still makes me laugh, to me it is light entertainment. The Honda review was a very important piece of journalism as that seriously represents the future of motoring, the fact that Top Gear lightened it up a bit shows you the talent of the program makers, yet gets the story across. I still love it, and if people feel the need to critically analyse it then possibly they just don't 'get' it. -
Is your Corrado the most unreliable car you've ever owned?

The reality is that most folks on here are driving a car that is at least 12 years old, many cars at this stage have been weighed in and are now recycled back into some steel product or other. It is a fact that most people find us Corrado owners bonkers to be driving our Corrado's daily (I don't as have a company car, but if I didn't I would be in a rado). At that age things go wrong, it happens on all VW's, I once had the AA out 3 times in 2 weeks to a Mk2 Gti. However, my G60 Corrado I ran for a year as a daily, it failed me once and that was the battery failing (which can happen on any car). The key is to take extra care on maintenance, replace stuff even if you don't have to, that is the only way to try and guarantee reliabilty on an old car.
