Ah, someone local to me (when you are in Bewdley), love G60's so if you ever need some advise give me a shout, I am building a Mk2 G60 as we speak (in between fixing a Corrado VR6 and a Mk2 2l 16v)
-
From what you were saying to me about the toothed belt set up I am surprised you risked it again. Obviously you are now doing the right thing it seems.
-
Er no it isnt. Let me make this quite clear, a G60 PAS pump is not the same as a MK Golf 8v,16v or anything else bar a G60. Let me explain, the pump is an identical item, what differs is that the output shaft on the pump (not a changeable item) is longer as the pump sits furthur towards the centre of the engine bay on a G60. If you measure the difference then a machine shop should be able to make you up a spacer to sit between the PAS pulley and the PAS pump drive. Well that is bizzare because I have two pumps sitting in my garage, one off a G60, one off an 8v/16v (originally bought to convert a non PAS Golf). They have the same part numbers. So it looks likely the one off the G60 has prob been adapted from a standard 8v/16v Sorry for the wrong info but an honest mistake. It will be easy enough to adapt an 8v/16v unit by the sounds of it.

Is it running on K-Jet, from your sig I assume it is. Your symptoms sound like the classic fuel accumulator failure. This works by retaining pressure in the system after the engine is turned off. This prevents the hot fuel evaporating in the system and thus allows the engine to fire up. The reason that your car will work after leaving it to cool is that the pressure in the system is not required. I believe that the accumulator is part of the fuel pump housing, someone will put me right if I am wrong here. Incidentally, the ECU is a simple mechanism for maintaining the ignition and does not control air/fuel ratio in any way

I have always used WD40, does the job and if you put plenty on will do the job of catching the tiny particles that would get through. Not advisable on a G60 though I will just add

Drew, How goes it mate, been a while. PAS pump is the same for most 1.8 engines of it's age. So you can use one off a Mk2 8v, 16v and even the 2.0l 16v Corrado I am pretty sure. Have a look about and check the part numbers against yours. You shoudl find one easily enough. Rob

Did I spot am E34 beemer amongst that lot? Now that's a proper motor!!
-
Have a word with Jabba about it, I would doubt it though as the map will have been designed to accomodate the extra boost the pulley will produce within it's coding. After all, even a standard chip will fuel a 68mm pulley

Is 1700 a good boost reading for a standard G60?
Rustynuts replied to markmoog's topic in Engine Bay
Stage 1 basically sounds like a basic rebuild to me. As per everyone else says really, don't start panicking just yet and also see if you can do the test in 4th and see what the reading is. Will be worth getting it checked out if you are worried though. -
If it is running a bit lumpy this is more likely due to slight air leak and/ or a need for a tune up. If it does not clank, clatter and blow smoke I would leave it alone until it does (which may be a long way off yet)

Yes, ours cost £800 to buy with the engine, seats, cage and brake bias already in place. It is a bit scabby but very solid (bar one small hole in the rear footwell that can easily be fixed if we are ever arsed). Most of the worn stuff would have been replaced anyway and all in all it stands us about £1400. If you split the cost with a mate it is far more economical to do, especially if you go to open pitlane days. You can still pick up small engine Mk1's for £400 - £500, then it is just building up from there.
-
Sorry folks but a Mk1 will be better, mainly because it is lighter. Our Mk1 2.0l 8v (approx 160bhp) kept up with our mates 2.0l 16v Mk2 (approx 190 bhp) and a Mk2 1.8T (204bhp) at Mallory. Still plenty of Mk1's about if you ever need to reshell and front end panels are cheap enough.
-
Mk1 handling is sharper than a Mk2, mainly because it is lighter. It is hard to explain other than comparing the Mk1 and Mk2 track cars I have driven. You can really feel the extra 100kg in a Mk2 that makes it feel more planted but also less agile. The Mk1 feels slightly skitty but you really feel you can be more precise. With our Mk1 track car we are going to play with the spring poundage as it may be the suspension making it a little skitty. Both handle very well, both are a joy to drive.

Depends on the steering rack, the manual rack gives most feel in fast corners but bit of an arse in slow twisty stuff. 8v rack is good, 16v rack is better as it is heavier and therefore has more feel. My favourite is the 16v rack is it gives the best of both worlds and to be honest feels the same as a Corrado rack. As for high centre of gravity, not really, fit Corrado front seats and that really improves the driving position and feeling of centre of gravity

I love track days and this is what I use, it's rusty and people don't think it will be quick, at Cadwell a 205 Pug Mi16 found out to it's cost lol. The great thing is that if it breaks it just gets improved and the engine takes a hell of a caning and it does not bat an eyelid (other than throw oil out of the breather)

Audi S3 or SEAT Ibiza Cupra ? Discuss.....
Rustynuts replied to BigTartanJudge's topic in General Car Chat
Certainly not badge snobbery from me either, I have a Mk2 Leon Tdi Ref Sport mapped upto 197 bhp/330 lb ft. I love it, apart from the issue of grip. However being given the option of an Audi S3 means one thing, massive gains to be had and a 4wd set up that handles it. A nice suspension setup will always help and am sure the issue of steering feel could be handled with another rack from the VAG range. -
Not to mention aircraft flight, It's all bullshit anyway, I am yet to be convinced that an increase from 320 ppm (parts per million) to 380 could even possibly have as major affect on the climate as supposed boffins say, yes that is an increase from 0.000320 to 0.000380% of air being CO2 at ground level.

......and 4wd will help get the power down a lot better -
Eh why? As long as it is road worthy a Mk2 is a well balanced drive, it's only running out of talent that would cause death, its not a Peugeot 205 you know! :?
-
Ah Gary to the rescue with information.
-
My Mk2 is going to be better than that when it's done, nice motor though and good luck to all those who entered.
-
Mk2 16v Golf, standard to start with tested speed on the short track. They are now going to mod it and see what they can improve on.
-
Is it running rich? Sooting up the plugs?
-
Right well thats me run out of talent, only thing I can now think of is knock sensor or timing.
-
Are the plugs black? I guess they will be with that co reading. BTS could still be faulty, have heard 'new' ones especially none VAG ones not always being the best. Another thing, and this may be a daft one, but is your 1m vac pipe that runs to the ECU on the correct nipple on the back of the throttle, if it is one the wrong on it will be reading permenant boost and therefore overfuelling.
