Hi Drew, Rob here, I am not living in Stourbridge anymore as you will have noticed. Having sold my G60 I have just bought another Corrado, a 16v this time. Anyway here is a pic for people to see your car. Carl, 500 quid is why your bottom end has fallen out,
-
Nice motor, don't sell the wheels, they really do suit a Corrado.
-
Check all your vac hoses are connected and in good condition. You might have an air leak
-
Lol, I know. I am not ready to put it up yet, as need to give it a clean and get some good pics. Plus i am out the country next weekend. So week after watch the classifieds.....
-
Indeed, you will see me by the cloud of smoke, lol. Wheels are BK's, a little rough round edges, but ok with good tyres. Those will prob be going too so i can chuck some 15's on for better handling. The car is a early 91. I am going to try and sell the interior complete though, seems silly to split, especially as it is good condition for age

Check out this new motor, got it today for an absolute bargain considering it has black leather in it. Condition is reasonable but need a lock set and drivers door handle. Main problem is that is smokes like a trouper, possible cause is poor breather hoses, but more than likely valve stem seals. Plan is to sell off the leather and strip it out for a bit of track fun, it is in good condition so will be putting that up for sale soon. Here is a pic, the stickers have gone already 8)

Golf Mk 3 2.0L 8V - engine complete power cut out
Rustynuts replied to sonia16v's topic in Engine Bay
Get the AA to do a battery test, you would be surprised how many seemingly catastrophic problems are just dead or poor battery output. -
I would bank on this being either the cold start valve, or secondly the warm up regulator

now i got an oil leak!!could it be linked to the noise??
Rustynuts replied to g60greeny's topic in Engine Bay
It could be from anywhere, could be charger, engine or gearbox. Could be as simple as a gasket that has gone. Really you need to investigate where it is coming from tomorrow. -
The matrix leaking is the only thing that causes the vent to steam like you say. Read the Knowledge Base for a quick guide on how to change the Matrix. Though I have also heard that it is a dash out job.

Yeah 16v box is Ok, back to first and second and using VR cogs. With them being slightly longer, you get right into the power band as you shift into 3rd. I had a piper cam in my G60 which also increased the problem. Not being able to hit 60 in 2nd was a silly design fault by VW seeing the rest of the box is so relativily tall.
-
G60 gearbox is rubbish in the first 2 gears. In fact 2nd gear is crap and you would be better off running VR6 1st and 2nd gears. The rest of the box is OK in my opinion.

I think you might find that you are just experiencing cable change gear sloppiness. Even the tightest and adjusted feel cack. Rod change is soooooooo much more positive.

In this weather my Leon 2.0l Tdi does not get traction in the 1st 3 gears and thats with the traction control on. Basically its the torque. You have lots of power to put through those front wheels.
-
Well if you do sell it, make sure you give it a good prep beforehand. As for keeping it, well there seems a lot that needs to be done.
-
Lol. You might want to get a dipstick tube thats not broken too. I also thought that the oil in the engine was quite black considering it should have had new oil. also i thought it was too thin. Best get some silver synta oil and put 4l in having drained off the old stuff. Then it may not be chucking the stuff out of the exhaust. The other thing was that the whole engine seemed to be dripping in oil, that could have been down to the garage muppets spilling it everywhere. I have to say, if you spent 800 quid on a headgasket, the garage does not look as if they took much care doing it. I thought that you may have been ripped off.
-
If it only happens in 3rd and 4th gear it could be the gearbox rather than the engine. Under load the engine would do it in all gears and not just 3rd and 4th. Also, if you have loose exhaust heatshields that would sound terrible. Discount the water pump, that would be noticable all the time.
-
Just check all the connectors are still connected. Eg Lambda sensor, O2 sensor, etc. Check for any loose wires that have corroded loose. Check you do not have a boost leak, check all the air pipes are OK.
-
What are these strange noises? Worth bearing in mind that if it sounds like a loud wirring it is more likely to be the water pump bearings grinding happily against each other.
-
What i would do is fill up car, run until nearly empty clocking the miles. Fill up again, note litres used, devide by 4.55 to give gallons used and then devide your mileage by the figure you have worked out
-
Just check all the vacuum hoses are connected properly, this will give a low MFA figure if one has worked free
-
Yeah and it can fail completely. I think the ECU moderates the spark and that is how it advances ignition according to all the other inputs it gets from other various sensors

Hall sender is part of the dizzy, the connector for it sits on the side of the dizzy and it works like a coil. There are 4 plates and 4 gaps and when it passes through one motion it goes past the 'reader' which then sends an electrical current.
