Insane...my wife was almost in tears watching it at times, my eight year old boy however, saw the first few minutes and was inspired to hang off the banister so was promptly put to bed!! Perhaps its true that this changes as you get older! :D I never thought I had an issue with heights, but watching that I'm not so sure! bit different being just high up to hanging one handed with no safety gear though...

It would be impossible to even hazard a guess with such limited details as so many factors could affect your quote - age, annual mileage, driving history, no claims bonus, driving convictions, postcode, occupation, experience etc. Your current premium would suggest you have your Corrado on a classic policy? It will vary with other insurers but most of the underwriters were I work (HIC) will either rate on the grouping of the donor engine or the bhp increase the engine swap gives you and we do have a few who are very competitive on engine swaps. Not all classic insurers will take fairly major mods such as you are planning and as many classic policies are non refundable if you cancel, I would definately recommend checking with your current provider before starting the work. If you want to pm me some details and a contact number, I'll gladly see what we could come up with... Martin :)

As I had some time off over Christmas I decided a good service was in order so Steve (twin45 on here) and I changed the Cambelt, Water Pump, Oil + filter, Coolant, Dizzy Cap and Rotor Arm as well as replacing the leaking rocker cover gasket. What should have been a fairly straight forward job turned into a massive ball ache with bolts snapping off left right and centre, the car not running right initially when we got it back together and the distributer being somewhat seized when we were trying to adjust the timing! Steve hard at work : A slight bonus to all this though was I needed to go on an emergency parts run while Steve carried on working which meant I had the pleasure of driving his awesome Eaton Supercharged mk2 valver... Eventually, after Steve said a lot of un repeatable words a threatened to burn it a couple of times we finally got it all done at about 6pm on Christmas Eve meaning the last minute christmas shopping i had planned was not possible but huge thanks to him for all his help - he even stayed up working deep into the night on it after I had given up and gone home to bed! I have also been looking into having the Supercharger rebuilt as other than the previous owner stating that the guy he bought the car off said it had been done, I had no history for it. I looked at a couple of specialist companies for this, but Matt @ Only Charged Dubs has been very helpful with advice since I got the car and I had met him previously a couple of times at shows so after some research via the various forums I decided it was worth the extra time / mileage to take the car to him rather than a more local specialist so I finally took the plunge and got it booked in for a stage one rebuild earlier this week. It was a fair trek and a very early start to get to Matt for 9am on Tuesday morning and I think its the furthest north I have ever been : Things started well enough as everything had recently been removed when we did the cambelt but once Matt had the charger off and taken to bits he did not think the charger had EVER been rebuilt (supposed to be every 40-50k and my cars on 169k ) and noticed some slight damage to the displacer. Although Matt was able to repair this it meant I would have to spend the night in Barnsley. I did venture out to explore a bit and found it quite funny how many people commented on my southern accent - we have a yorkshire lass at work and often have a joke with her about her accent but the boot was on the other foot now so I will think twice in the future! After a 5am start that day though I was shattered and back in the hotel in bed by 8pm The next morning things started well as Matt had already started working on it before picking me up from the hotel at 10am The car went together quickly but when the moment came to start it, the charger was making some strange noises so it was quickly turned off and removed again. After some fettling from Matt, things were sounding better and I was finally on my way home! I honestly cannot thank Matt at only Charged Dubs (http://www.onlychargeddubs.co.uk/) enough and would certainly recommend him to anyone - he did not try to sell me the most expensive option, instead choosing a rebuild suited to my car and I suspect that given the hassle he had, other specialists may have thrown in the towel and just concluded a new charger was needed. This Corrado has been the most reliable of the 3 I have had so far (touch wood) but everytime I try to be nice and give it some new bits / servicing it seems to fight us and not go to plan, Im starting to think if it aint broke, dont fix it! I now have to run the Charger in for 500 miles just 296.4 to go.........

I've been thinking about doing this too as I hate that I can only pick up radio 1 on my commute to work but I also live out in the sticks so it's reassuring to read they actually work! :)

Sad day as another Corrado, mine, gets written off
martinb replied to larceny fink's topic in General Car Chat
Wow, sorry to see this and glad to hear your relatively ok considering how bad it could have been! Find examples of similar spec / condition cars to show what the value is in the enthusiast market to send to the insurers if they try to beat you down on the value. Most insurers will allow you to keep the salvage if you request it (it suits them as they get to pay you less money and dont have to sort out disposing of your broken car) and will normally just deduct the salvage value from your payout. Hope you get everything sorted -
Had you owned the Corrado for a while? (I notice you have been a member since 2011), often you get good discounts for ownership if you have owned a while? Is the car value increasing? You mentioned you are commuting a lot more now - did you increase the mileage on the policy as this could put the premium up?

Thanks for all the replies. The quoted price over the phone to Jabba was actually a fair bit higher than the advertised prices on their website and as Matt@ocd has always been very helpful with his advice via forums and in person when I have met him at shows, I starting to think it may be worth the extra drive. Matt you have pm....

typically slow progress from me means I've not updated anything for ages! A few of my boost hoses were looking a bit tired to I thought it would be wise to replace & upgrade and give the engine bay a bit of a tidy up.. before: A few more recent(ish) pics: I decided to go back to a chrome badge for a bit but think I prefer the black one so now changed back unfortunately my car park curse struck again, and as seems standard practice these days obviously no insurance details left again: most of it polished out but the bumper will need spraying again eventually but as the car is a daily, there does not seem any point until after the winter :(

I'm looking to get the charger rebuilt on my Corrado G60 in the near future and of all the recommended companies, Jabba Sport seem the best choice for me as they are fairly close and I would rather them do all the fitting etc as they are not that far from me and can give the car a once over while they are at it. I just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with them / their charger rebuilds? Is it possible to have it done while you wait? Is the stage 4 worth the extra money over their standard charger rebuild? What benefits / differences should I expect from the stage 4 over the standard rebuild (power / performance, noise, reliability etc). The car is already fitted with a chip / pulley, jabbasport induction kit, RSR outlet etc. Obviously I plan to call them, but interested in peoples experiences and unbiased opinions first. Thanks in advance...

A single non fault claim should not make much difference, as long as its settled at the time of your next quote / renewal (outstanding is still classed as fault - guilty until proven innocent). Check with the insurer at the start of any call - some take Cat C/D cars with any problems, others wont cover them at all. Most companies that do will require a VIC check and fresh MOT. Also bear in mind any future insurance payout would be less.

I knew most of Bishops Stortford was effected but didnt realise the problems extended as far as Clavering? (assuming you still work there?) All back to normal now :)

Our computer and phone systems are currently down due to a power cut effecting the whole local area surrounding the office, so anyone trying to contact us will be unable to do so until power is restored. We are hoping normal service will be resumed soon, apologies for any inconvenience. Martin (HIC)

ahh...must catch up, I knew Mic had the R32 and then saw he was selling but did not know he now had the VR back! Don't worry, like I said, I wouldn't be happy in your shoes but from our point of view I wanted to ensure we had followed the correct procedures. All our staff have to tell our customers if they are placed on a non refundable policy. They have their calls regularly audited and have to consistently achieve a high standard in the audits as it can directly have an effect on their annual review. Personally I think you made a good point - we are required to give customers more and more information to protect the customer but this can mean that you are being read out so many terms and conditions that you switch off and don't hear everything you need! Classic policies in general do tend to be a lot cheaper as they tend to be lower risk but often there will be additional clauses such as the no refund, many don't build up no claims etc etc, not only with HIC. As i mentioned before, I will check tomorrow and see if there is anything else I can do...

unfortunately, even many "normal" insurance policies will not refund after a certain amount of time. Some companies do cancel pro rata but as Billcor stated initially, its always worth checking your policy documents or when you set the policy up if it is not mentioned to you.
