Hello mate, howz things? On my way home the noise almost stopped, completely. All i can hear now is a very light grazing noise, even with both windows open, so i got the car into the garage and got some light on the situation and all pads, front and rear have plenty of life left. I can only imagine a small stone or similar got in somehow and has now worked its way out.

Just seems strange that the thicker ones are cheaper? So my rado is 1993 - 15mm or 17mm? Or do I just need to check the chassis number?
-
ok so the dimensions are different: set 1: Dimensions H:52.9;W:86.8;T:15.2 set 2: Dimensions H:52.9;W:86.8;T:17.2 so which ones do I need? Thanks

euro car parts lists so many for the vr6: http://www.eurocarparts.com/brake-pads What is the difference between these two sets of pagid pads (other than the price); http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Corrado_2.9_1993/p/car-parts/car-service-parts/regular-service/brake-pads/?101440198&1&8e3d118047eca06c5d535ca7620714233d01253e&BKPA http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Corrado_2.9_1993/p/car-parts/car-service-parts/regular-service/brake-pads/?101440328&1&8a7d1b4dac01cd0fc6282c7aa42e6b8a610cd0b8&BKPA

and to add, i had been driving for 10 mintues before the noise started, and its very noticeable so I wouldnt have missed it, it just started mid journey.

the handbrake still stops the car fine and locks on and off well, its just the noise it made from the front that worried me??
-
On my way home tonight i noticed a loud grinding noise when braking coming from the front of the car, i presumed i'd need new font pads, job done. But whilst pulling into my drive i used the handbrake to slow the car (to save as much of the front pads as I can until I can change them) and I heard the same noise. Now the noise im sure is coming from the front wheels (although I havent had a chance to test propery) so am i missing something, but i'm sure the handbrake is only supposed to lock the real wheels? Or am I being really stupid??

Done!! As soon as i popped the face off the dial off the green 'pole' with the runner on fell over suggesting the metal strip wasnt in the runner to keep it upright so i reckon its sorted!! Thanks mate! Well explained!

Thanks mate

Could you explain in a bit more detail mate, the same thing happened to mine (temp gauge just stopped working and I replaced the clocks and now works fine so wasnt wiring or a sensor) and perhaps its the same thing. Thanks

having had a very drawn out process of trying to get the car through its MOT (it only need the rad fans re-wiring and a cat for the emissions but had issues with parts) I got my rado back today and drove her for the first time in 4 weeks. I have been driving a clio 1.2 16v (for a week) and then a Mk4 golf 1.6 auto for the last 4 weeks and getting back into the VR6 was like getting into a supercar! Everything from the acceleration, grip and handling, the noise, everything, just felt amazing. I am tempted to buy a really slow daily so I can have that feeling every weekend. I guess after driving the VR6 everyday for 3 years I was beginning to take it for granted. Needless to say I am extremely happy! Smiles all the way home (didnt exactly go the shortest route either, just drove and drove for hours!)

I went for the spray so will test first!!

Thanks mate, sorted.

Does anyone have LC5U (AQB Pearl) paint for sale? Need to do a touch up on the rear bumper.
-
Thanks but g60knight came to the rescue and sent me one and the car is now with MOT. Thanks for the offer though.
-
Your missus must really hate this car by now?? Just read the whole thread, what an awesome effort. Very impressed.

Unfair comment, I asked for clarity that it was in working order, and I didnt get it! And as I explained I just can't run the risk of buying another that didnt work. Furthermore, you then increased the postage cost for it to take less than 5 days to get to me which i also didnt think was fair as others have offered postage for less than £10 for 48hr recorded delivery. I have apologised that you took the time to wrap it but I never confirmed that I would take it, so I cant say any more than sorry.

Stu, did you get my PM, still no word from you? Anyone else got one??
-
Common problem, and often the gauge, a replacement gauge is now obsoltete from VM (even though its listed)..second hand cluster is best way to go!
-
ok, I will keep my eyes peeled. Thanks!
-
Thanks Sam, but no sign of any refund in my paypal account??
-
Thank you, leaving work now so will send you a message when I get home. Thanks.

..and in the mean time if anyone else has one I can borrow (just to get through MOT) please still let me know, funds arent exactly good right now. Thanks.
