:( somebody must have an opinion, anybody??

OK..slight change of plan re my engine swap..having spoken to a few people today it looks like the 1.8 T swop might be a little out of my price range, in fact very out of my price range..so.. spoke to a mechanic who reckons i should get a 2.0 16v lump with uprated cams, tune it, gas flow the head and so on and stick that in!! he said because of the 1.8s engine managment system, it would be much more tuneable then just starting from scratch (i.e buying 2.0 corrado and tuning it) and if i did this i could get some decent power, round the 170 bhp + mark..but if this is wrong/pointless PLEASE tell me!!

tallpaul1977, yeah true but its all i can afford..and im only 22 and i reckon its all i could afford insurance wise too..how much did your whole 1.8 T swop cost you if u dont mind me asking? is it true that the engine managment system of the 1.8 16v linked to a 2.0 16v with an engine swop would make it more tunable rather than just buying a standard 2.0 16v and tuning that?

no, fair point..but u have to agree that the cheaper 'budget' sets wont give you that and will be uncomfortable?? well u dont have to agree but..
-
steve_16v, couldnt agree with u more, had the same problem with my supersports! adjustable damping all the way!!!
-
will do..do you (or does anyone know) who could fit one though, and how much that would be, roughly? (as u can tell im pretty new to this, but nevertheless still very keen!!)
-
cheers Stan 24v, thats more expensive than i thought though..sounds about right for the insurance, if its round the £1k mark i will be fine i think..
-
also Walesy, how much is really cheap? ball park figure?
-
well the question is double-6s, how much would you sell the vr lump for and what condition is it in? i do kinda have my heart set on the 1.8T though..any ideas in insurance?
-
ok..my 1.8 16v is burning oil and im a little concerned as to how much longer the engine will last, the car itself is in nice condition, it has a few things i need to fix but other than the engine nothing too pricey at all..i didnt pay much for the car and am selling my mk3 golf so should have some spare cash soon, thinking of an engine swap for more power and more fun..im thinking 1.8 T swop..but does anyone know a) how much they think the whole thing would cost, and b) where i can get reasonable insurance as im only 22?? any help would be much appreciated!
-
my 16v also runs real high oil temps too..but not quite that high..around the 115 mark..but i have a problem with oil which is yet to be diagnosed so...
-
i bought some supersport coilovers for my mk 3 golf a couple of yrs back, the drop was immense and went as low as i could possible ever need and they are only £300 from venom motorsport at the moment, (probabally without VAT) BUT!!!, whilst it handled real good, the ride was SOOO uncomfortable and as im sure u are aware at this price they are not fully adjustabe and it has made driving the car (which i still have if anyone wants to buy it, optimistic after this comment i know) a bit of an effort..so i reckon something with a bit more comfort is well worth the money...wish i had spent that bit more..just my opinion though!
-
thanks dave..will do, have u sent it? did the money arrive ok?

Worst thing some has said about ur Corrado
stevef182 replied to CorradoDriver's topic in General Car Chat

-
pbradley98, i may well have to get in touch with u when it arrives if i get stuck but really pleased to know it only took 20 mins!!
-

-
my drivers side door handle has broken and apparently i need a whole new handle, does anyone know where i can get one (apparently i need one with sensors, not sure what for though) and how hard they are to fit?? garage quoted me £150... :( would rather do it myself if i can!!
