Direct swap for another corrado engine mate? A driveway, a few of us on here, an engine hoist and a few hours.... done in a day I'd wager and I'm happy to be one to help.
-
Yeah I hear what you're saying, I can't think anyone would say they love the looks of the mk4 but everyone I've spoken to says the engine is a beauty. Plus I bet a non-modified golf is a bit nicer on your insurance premium?! You have PM as well.
-
 Just got to work and it's running really well on IE10, Firefox and Safari.... good job Andi!
-
Keeping the wife happy by going away for the weekend is more important  My insurance is with hic as well.... Would've been magical.

Has something changed?!?
-
Yep, had an apologetic email confirming its 111k miles and he's going to revise.
-
Sent him a question, so hopefully find out soon
-
I like the looks on the later S3 (2007 onwards) but I'd struggle to justify the extra cost for a car I only use 1-2 times a week. I think you're right about the mk4 as well on the tinkering front, it's got a good following with plenty of parts etc so much easier to fettle with than something brand new.
-
Just down the road from me, and I'd love some good pics of my car....... but I'm away that weekend..... bugger
-
Didn't fancy a newer shaped S3 then Kev? Kind of ticks all the boxes except I've heard they have no "soul"
-
Those techtonics exhaust really are good. Looking pretty tasty mate

Can I ask what car is tempting you away.. And echoing people above, give it a try selling whole just in case. Be a shame to see it split.

This is a tricky subject, and I guess on here you could guess what everyone was going to say (or nearly everyone!) My own 2p worth. I came back because I couldn't find something I felt was special and I'd rather have for the money. The fact the community is great, although the forum is a lot slower than it used to be, is purely a bonus. Anything else mainstream you buy won't be that special (IMHO) unless you're prepared to spend a lot more. You can get a lot of car for your money if you're prepared to up your budget to say £10-£12k, but even then any modern car will be ten to the dozen on the roads..... and if you go for something classic you'll have the same issues with repair costs. For me I'd struggle to say 'Ok, I'll buy a S3 for £12k because it'll save me the £600 a year tinkering costs' when that car is going to cost me £7k more that a mint VR. I think my head would be swayed by a 911 (even though they're not special) or a Lotus Exige, or a 1957 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.... but I'm not going to get one of those for sub £5k am I?

25th Anniversary National Day - Castle Combe
mic_VR replied to vornwend's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Finally got around to uploading my parade laps vid. Unfortunately. for some reason this is the only video that worked on the day, the others seem to have corrupted somehow... maybe the heat with the camera left in the car for so long... if I can recover anything else I'll put them up as well. -
Haven't really got anything on youtube, well not of the car. There's some (embarrassing ones) of me on my motorbike, which is why I get the gopro originally, but that's a very different noise. I'll see if I can put a few up for you over the weekend so you can see. For sound quality I use the closed back when outside, and the open back inside. They say you can use the open back outside without too much wind noise up to 100mph but I've never tried. If I get a chance I'll try to sort a small selection for you.

Yeah I use one mate, love it! I tend to use the suction mount inside and outside, as long as the paint is smooth/clean etc you shouldn't have a problem. Having said that... when on the outside I do use tethers. One I made from a lanyard with a small locking karabina which is soft enough to tie around something (wing mirror) but strong enough to stop it falling. You can use electrical tape to tape the karabina down so you don't get any clicking on the video. The other tether I've got is made from some locking wire wrapped in some layers of shrink wrap. This is a bit more fiddly to use and you need to have it relatively short otherwise I've seen them scratch paintwork. It's very good for looping through holes though where the lanyard is better for going over/around something. You can look on the gopro forum for ideas, and it's amazing what people come up with. If you do think of using the adhesive pads they are relatively easy to get off with a bit of heat, and if careful I've never seen one leave a mark.

Ok, as promised some pics of the Evolva 1-2-3 nicely installed. Fits like a glove in the back as you can see. We'll see how he gets on during his first trip in it tonight but hopefully he'll be fine.
-
Yeah, oulton and donnington are good choices I think. Bedford and snetterton are my closest but I think middle of the country is good. I'm happy to travel a bit. If we can get a decent size group I know places like msv (oulton, snetterton, brands, cadwell) do group discounts.... Which is nice.

I'm in, and those circuits sound good. Maybe look at a few dates and create a poll?
-
Like the pics Fay, and good to hear the headunit is working fine... always got to have tunes! I'd be up for a trackday if people fancied getting some Corrado's together, sounds good.
-
Cheers Tony, I've taken the plunge and ordered the Evolva in Black (Didn't come in cream to match the leather). Let you all know how I get on tomorrow and I'll put up some pics for reference if anyone needs it.
-
Is that in the back as well Tony?

Has anyone got the names of the maxi-cosi's they're using, there's loads of them!
