Hello All, Been a little while hopefully coming back
mic_VR replied to cheesy's topic in General Car Chat
Fair enough mate, no point making yourself ill just to be out on the bike. Best of luck finding a decent Corrado and welcome back into the fold. -
I've been lucky enough to drive many many cars which aren't mine, but the one that I'd love to drive and haven't is my Uncles Lotus 7. Not Caterham, original Lotus 7. I've driven his Vanquish, but no one drives the 7...... ironically not even him 364 days of the year!

Has she never held UK insurance either? Regardless of her licence nationality if she has 9 years UK insurance I think they should honour that.... surely? If not, what a bunch of idiots! Penalise those doing the right thing and getting/maintaining their insurance... :mad2: I'd definitely go for the insurance on the plum mate. I did it a few years ago to maintain my motorcycle NCB.

Gutted you had to give up the bikes mate, but at least the Corrado is an interesting alternative. One of my new years resolutions was to get back on a bike this year. I'd love an RSV but I think I'd probably kill myself on it as I've been away so long! -
Signed. Now we wait.

When I were a wee lad Cambridgeshire Constabulary used to have a Lotus Espirt in police livery. They used to bust it out for special events and staff/family days (my Dad works there). They claimed it was for high speed pursuits on the A14/A1/M1 but it did about 15mpg, and they then got uprated Volvo 850R's that were just as quick and could carry more equipment whilst doing over 20mpg.... so it was sold
-
I'll PM you mate but I doubt you'll want it. Although it drives superb, it's got a couple of other issues that I'm trying to sort. Plus people on here might moan about me selling up!
-
Looks really nice mate, Aqua Blue ftw! I might be free on Friday evening if you boys need another pair of hands?
-
If they look like the ones in the link you posted I think yours are the wrong way up.
-
I'd suggest the top mount is wrong. Is it brand new?
-
I had a 1.9 gti, loved it even though it often tried to kill me... but once you learn how to drive one they are great. Couple of things to watch - sunroofs have an airlock system which can fail and let in water - the oil cooler on the gti is a bit of an after thought and the brackets tend to rust through and then the filter and cooler fall off (bad if you driving along believe me!) - the oil breather pipes tend to crack and let water into the oil system. Gives the appearance of a failed head gasket but is an easy fix. If you get a chance, drive one. They're much like the corrado, full of character and tons of fun.

Well it's definitely a nice idea, bit of weight saving as well. Wonder how hard/expensive it would be to make sure everything is in the right place. ie. Headlight aim, bonnet catches etc.
-
We'll be trend setters then. If Bill say go bigger I'm sure he's right, plus it works out as only £100. Still cheaper than buying the whole lot separately. The more I look at the pics of my install and that SRI you posted the more I think it'll fit. You'd have to use some kind of elbow piece to face the TB away from the rad but it might work.....
-
I didn't paint it, came like that I'm afraid. Plus it wasn't meant to be on there long!
-
To give you an idea of space issues, I found these pics of my current install.
-
Yeah that SRI looks pretty nice, but I think you'd struggle for space. Maybe if the inlet was at the other end, further away from the Rad you could make it fit... or without the plastic manifold you might be able to tip the engine back a little. That price is a bargain for the 7076, I'd definitely be happy with that. I'll send my mate an email to see if he's ok with it and maybe get them ordered next month?

Dear Lord. Stuff the car, the guy can barely spell by the looks of it. For some reason I'm put in mind of Cletus the Slack jawed Yokel trying to sell a car, but with a mockney accent. And it appears he's breeding....... ah what future leaders I look forward to.

It's definitely an issue, one which Kev and I have chewed th fat over and it's something we'd both look at if going FI on a 24v. JBS sell their turbo kits using the standard manifolds up to about 12 psi so they must be able to take the pressure http://www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk/content/29/32-24v-v6-turbo-kits but I wouldn't want to say how long they're going to last. Space in the engine bay to fit a Short runner is the biggest problem with the corrado as th rad is so much closer to the engine. Bill's got loads more stuff to upload to his new site as yet mate. Should be plenty of 24V stuff appearing soon :D I've asked Bill if he's going to stock the Borg Warners and I should be able to negotiate a good price on two 7076s, posted to your contact in the states perhaps? :norty: The Borgs are so sale now mate 8) I'm up for that. I'll have a word with my friend, I'm sure it'll be fine to go through him but always worth the question.

Tell me about it mate, all I seem to spend money on these days is house stuff. At least that's all done now, must get on with the car savings now! I think I should turbo the C as well. I mean i've spent so much on the thing in the past 6 months by doing the 24v conversion, the AP racing brakes and the new wheels that I'd literally be chucking money down the 'bog' (to quote yourself) if I sold it for what someone is realistically going to pay for it. Plus i've been driving it loads the last few days and I do love the thing... It'd kill me to see someone else driving Mincy. So turbo it is. At $2000 those Borg's don't look a bad idea. If you go down the Garrett route you're saying $1300 on turbo, $400 on wastegate, $150 on a Recirc value so $1850 before you've thought about plumbing the lot together. Any idea's when they'll be on general sale? Just going to have a look at Bill's new site. It's been down for ages, but everytime I pop on there is more stuff. Was hoping to see some of his 24v Cams.

Yeah I'm sticking with it at the moment. I'd love something newer, and RWD or 4WD but the reality is I'm doing 5K miles a year and spending £10K to get something interesting just to have it sat outside the house is a bit stupid. The great thing about the C is the fact it's not really costing me anything. Yes I keep spending money on it but I could just leave it now and it only costs me £100 a month in tax, fuel and Insurance. I'd have to get a loan to get something else as my car is (at very best) worth say £5k with the fancy bits so I'd be paying all that extra just to have something only a little different. You're always welcome to have run in it mate, I'll have to sort a time/place when we can meet up. It's no quicker really than a standard VR but it's much smoother and the torque comes in stronger/earlier so it feels nippier than the 12v. Not really bothered about air-con, plus space is a little tight in the front now as the 24v has to be leaned forward in fitting so it doesn't foul the bonnet. Glad to see you're still enjoying the M5, no chance of heading back into a C....... the lure of the Turbo thread maybe?
-
 Are the planets in some kind of weird alignment or something?....... What have you done with the real Mr Haywire? Never been the biggest fan of the Rallye but that looks like a good example and the red paint black wheel combo does look awesome. Think you should go for it Graeme.
-
So this will all be back on the road and ready for BVF this year Alex?
-
Turns out the MAF had gone pop so a new unit and its running even better, I'll have to pop down so you can have another go. Exhaust also sorted. Had a go at it myself but without a drive I wasn't successful. Graham got it on the ramps and sorted in double quick time. Don't think my C will be going anywhere, its like a member of the family.... even Amy wants us to keep it! just need to actually finish my plans now....
-
Yes but still been than that clenching feeling everytime I throw it about to much at the moment. I might start with some 40mm springs on my current setup, although I'm not sure they'll be stiff enough. It's that or say bugger it and go for a height adjustable set. Dukest - You're running a 40mm drop aren't you? The one thing I have got to my advantage is the fact it's not a daily so could set it up a bit harder with a more race focus. Wendy - what's your current setup? You still tracking yours or have you moved onto something a little better now?
-
Yeah I've thrown the idea around and nobody wants the damn thing so no chance of a new car at the moment! Plus DG have sorted the running issues I was having so I'm kind of enjoying it again...... if I can sort the rubbing issues that is.... So I guess I might as well chuck a few more dollars at it since I'm stuck with it.....
