Quick little update: Went in for MOT, failed on ABS sensor... that was it! not bad for a 17 year old car! Although sadly it has been raining tonight and my sunroof is leaking quite heavily, I'm hoping it just needs a little adjustment but at the moment there a towel in my car catching the water whilst its ****ing it down outside :(

Trying to remove ISV but big star bit in the way
swiftkid replied to boredpilot's topic in Engine Bay
I used an allen key today on mine... worked a charm If I were you I would check the wires for the lambda sensor then just WD40 the plug wires, if that doesn't work turn your attention to the MAF, that's what usually goes duff. Unplug it when its at full running temperature and see if the engine note changes, if yes its fine, if no thats probably the cause of your bad idle and misfire -

How many time are you planning on removing it? I would just give it a go with an allen key, its only for a cover so you shouldn't need to be a rough ass with it anyway. If its stupidly tight then maybe buy the tool but I've always used an allen key and mine are still fine. BTW have you considered the cause of your misfire/bad idle may be something else, ISV's generally don't cause misfires. You could just give the ISV a good clean and try that, spray some carb cleaner or similar through it. Personally, speaking from past experience its usually the MAF that is playing up -
I'm all for security, I did the OBD2 conversion but had soo many problems getting the immobiliser working I bought an ECU with it removed. 5 months down the line I found out new information relating to VAGCOM and problems with immobiliser and I now have the immobiliser back plus a cat 1 alarm! I was VERY lucky with my first corrado, the guy that owned the car before me must have had problems with the ignition switch so had wired in a push button start. I went to newcastle on a night out, left it in hotel car park under surveillance to find it in the morning had been broken into. Luckily the scumbag had not realised about the push button start so thankfully I still had a corrado! sadly without an ignition barrel and a hole underneath my passenger side door handle, which I didn't actually find until about 3 months later on.

Things you hate other people do to your car...
swiftkid replied to guildmage's topic in General Car Chat
My cars currently parked up in a lockup whilst I rebuild it along with my mates car, its quite dusty in there so the car is now covered in dust. My mates mate came to take a look at the cars and then proceeded to wipe the dust off to look at my paint and lean against my car, I know some people might say "its only dust" but its how you get spider marks/swirls in your paint and on fresh paint it really wound me up. I hate seeing people lean against my car, its not your car so stay clear ffs! -
From experience, literally in the last week... make sure there are 2 of you to avoid damage and unscrew the front wing mirror screw, to do this simply twist the mirror inwards. Next twist it the other way so the mirror is facing outwards and undo the second screw a couple of turns to allow you to pull the mirror out the way just enough to be able to hook the triangle under the seal and in place. The second person in this scenario will have to hold the mirror and watch out for the front screw so it doesn't damage the paint as you spin the wing mirror, its easier just to leave it in than take it out, you could always undo both screws but I was lazy and just span the mirror so I didn't have to line the screws back up and it didn't pull the wire through too much. Hope that helps, oh and make sure the clips are lined up in the hole before you start pushing it inwards... or you'll end up with a post like mine titled: Wanted... door triangles without broken tab...

Its amuses me this water pipe ban, my mum was reading a highly amusing article about how you are not allowed to water your lawn but in the interests of health and safety to animals, you are allowed to clean a pet. If the pet just happens to run all over the garden and even in those hard to reach places in the garden then thats alright... More here: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-2124900/Hosepipe-ban-Some-sneaky-legal-ways-garden-green.html

Or you can not use magnatec, essentially fake tan and a bucketful of make-up for your engine and get synta which is only... a million times better for your engine for about £20 from main dealers or here

£134 for the roof strips, just picked up mine today... ouch!

I'm after the triangular plastic bit that sits in the corner of the A pillar. Don't know whats its called but I'm after the drivers side with the clip still in tact. Thanks, Dave

Well windscreen guy came, after about 1.5-2 hours of fitting he turned round and said "the outer seal isn't gripping so I'm going to have to get another windscreen"... oh great. I did want it in for MOT on friday but its looking bleak, hes coming back tomorrow with another screen so hopefully this time it will be right. Edit: Scary stuff, just as I was writing that got a phonecall off the windscreen fitter to say hes ordering a windscreen direct from VW, so even better... an original VW item! As for pictures you will have to wait... Big Bang at Santa Pod is the first real outing so hopefully get plenty of snaps there! Might do some more sneaky shots though hehe

Well I'm getting very excited now! Back on all four wheels as of tonight, window scraper seals fitted and roof gutter seals ordered... ouch! getting windscreen fitted tomorrow. Still no sunroof as I managed to break mine whilst fitting the sunroof seal but hopefully should have one this month! Hopefully MOT on friday then its ready for the road, just to decide what wheels I'll be using. May even get some pictures this weekend!

Another vote for the cades, the dotz have that air of chaviness to them. I'm not a fake split rim nazi but blatantly obvious examples look wrong. End of the day its your car though! edit: just found this pic and they don't look horrendous

I've had oil temps of 124-130 before, to me thats when you start to worry! anywhere between 92-108 is fine running temp though in my opinion.
-
Just ordered mine... ouch!!! Thought seeing as I'm doing it right, I might as well not eat for another few months lol. Continuing on from the what I did today, just rang autoglass to come and replace my windscreen ready for MOT in the next week. Its getting close to my first drive in about 8 Months, I cannot wait!!! Will be going from a 100bhp suzuki swift gti that bangs, creaks and rattles to a 200bhp mint condition, fully rebuilt VR6. Excited is an understatement!

I'm having the same issue although mine tends to run even hotter! I had about 112 on the way to santa pod last year. Blue temp sender deals with the cold map, ie. acts as MAF before water temp gets to 80 degrees. The thermostat would only apply if your water temp was overheating or not getting hot for ages, they tend to go up or down together if its the thermostat. I've been thinking about it and also chatting with Kev and reasons for it could be the heat exchanger (the part the oil filter bolts onto), radiator or even water pump. It depends if you want to go replacing parts or if you are happy to say... yea it doesn't overheat, its just a little hot

Hey all, I'm wanting to try something so I am after a 7 slat grill with tabs snapped off at the top. Would prefer bottom ones still in tact if possible but not a big issue if they arn't. Obviously as cheap as possible. I do have an absolute mint condition 7 slat grill with badge and all tabs intact I could sell/part ex with if necessary.

The Karman badge? Corrado's were all actually built by karman not VW, all corrado's have them unless you are the lucky owner of a storm
-
I'm a bit in 2 minds. I have heard problem stories about windscreen fitting so would be best to get people with experience but I can see what Jim says. I have a minor problem that my car currently doesn't have a windscreen in and it also doesn't have an MOT so I think I will have to go local, unless they are willing to travel...
-
Well I need a new windscreen but I'm hoping to get mine fitted under insurance. I'm not sure what windscreen I need but I've been told to stay clear of pilkington! Seems a bit odd doing a group buy for windscreens when you can just as easily get them done under insurance if needed?

Hello and welcome, have a look here (http://wiki.the-corrado.net/the_corrado_buying_guide_checklist.html) for some good buying information. Main things to check are sunroof operational in tilt and slide, check there are no scratches on the paint either as thats a sign the sunroof is knackered (tries to tilt as its sliding), check the spoiler comes up at 45 (i forget what speed it is, its been too long without my rado) and goes down at 10mph and that the button underneath the dash works. Make sure the heater controls work on all speeds and on all directions. Check all the fog lights and indicators at the front because they are now obselete and expensive to buy second hand! Other than that have a good read through the buyers guide and good luck!

Corrado CAD model found! I am one happy monkey :D
swiftkid replied to boost monkey's topic in General Car Chat
Quite a marmite car you have there axel but I love the gills on the wing, never seen them before but they look awesome! I reckon some nice motorsport wheels would look amazing on it! -
No, its a tiny little piece of metal that slides over the plastic. Its almost the same as the metal speaker clips Its the top 2 arrows
