  1. Suprised they didn't go for a different colour but i loved the bit about stigs writing books!
  2. You sure about that dukest? my mate ran 4stud narrow track on his mk2 vr6 without anything custom. But i agree with whats been said about getting a donor car, although i am exactly the same as you and just buy bits but i usually regret it for cost/timescale purposes and general hassle. If you buy an MOT failure mk3 VR6, it has all the bits you need including bigger brakes, suspension, gearbox and full loom and you know it runs, you can take your time removing the bits you need and not worry about some manic hacker ripping the loom apart! Personally i wouldn't use 1.8t, they are absolutely flat as a pancake out of boost, if its for a track car i'd advise keeping KR or 9a and tuning that a bit, better power in the low down range unless its a long sweeping track where the VR6 will come top trumps. Just my opinion though!
  3. Progress looks good but I would most definately say no to that R32. I'll bet it doesn't come with the engine cabin loom which is the most important loom and is an absolute nightmare to get hold of, i talk from experience!
  4. Spotted G-dub I think, parked up on norwood in Beverley the other day. Gave you a wave but don't think you saw me.
  5. I always assumed that the R32 would be worse on fuel but the 4mo engine wouldn't be that far off a VR6 or even better due to the fact it has low down torque so less need to plant your foot in the low down range but it sounds like the mpg is quite bad. I do about 14 miles to and from work and I get 360 miles to £60, mfa says im getting 35mpg so im actually pretty dam impressed now :D
  6. Its because its not red greeny. Red is the best colour, maybe its because its not a vr6
  7. no not a members club, a members thread with pictures of your car. Would be good to see what a tdi engine looks like in a rado, even cheesewire/pianowire/kevhaywire has a members gallery now so theres no excuse supercharged!
  8. They ALL come back! its an addiction.
  9. Sounds good supercharged, so erm... hows that members thread coming along
  10. Funny people should mention this, i've been looking for a new jack seeing as my halfords one has been letting me down recently... i'll get my coat. Anyway was looking at that clarke alu low profile thing just because of the name because i have no idea about quality of jacks, has anyone had any experience of the liftmaster make? any good, do they last etc etc?
  11. They had a sale on it not too long ago as well, £3 a litre or £11 for 5litres. Unfortunately when i got there it was totally emptied of 10w40!
  12. A very useful article, plenty of information! But just a question, you say that the lower the W number the better it is for the engine, is there any benefits or reason for going for a 10w as opposed to going for the 5w? Presumably if your engine runs hotter you would be better going for a higher grade oil? is there any margin for what you should be running in terms of temperature, like 70-80degrees is a 30, 80-100degrees is a 40? etc? My apologies if that is a really dumb question!
  13. Right i've been searching for ages about this but had no definative answer. Im after an alarm at the moment, i've previously had a toad alarm and it was brilliant so wanting to stick with what i know but the thing is i want an alarm that i can lock the car and it will automatically close the sunroof and windows. I have read that most people have it setup so that you press and hold different buttons to close the windows and sunroof but i know other alarms like the clifford can do it on a single lock button press but like i said i'd really prefer a toad alarm. My question is to anyone who has a Toad fitted with any full closure, can you press lock once and leave it to roll up the windows and shut the sunroof on its own. If so is that with the additional window closure module or direct from the alarm?
  14. Fairly sure G60greeny's old red g60 had 9.5's on the rear, you arn't going to get away with untouched arches if you are planning on running it low but it is do-able!
  15. Whats the rough cost for a trip to the ring if you dont mind? how much ideally should i be budget for?
  16. YES! I was looking at the VR6 owners club trip next year thinking i would tag along with them but would be nice to go with people i kind of knew from forums than total strangers!
  17. Can i Just make you aware of something for the solenoid. I had a problem when I put a boot popper in my old car. The bracket was pretty crap so when i tightened up the solenoid it actually bent the bracket around the curve (where the solenoid sits), which meant that once i had set up the solenoid and pressed it a couple of times it had moved and slackened off. Got a mate to weld a piece of strengthening around the curve thinking that would resolve it but the bracket just bent somewhere else. Its a really crappy design so maybe consider making a proper full loop bracket to stop the solenoid slipping to avoid having to reposition it every 5 minutes! Hope that makes sense, oh and car is looking very nice!
  18. I've been wanting to get a sump guard made because at £180+ for one its a bit steep for a sheet of metal. I know I'd prefer to have a sheet of metal smacking on the ground relatively often than my sump on occasions. I hit my sump 3 times and the third time put a hole in it! Shows how strong these indestructible sumps are, and im not even that low!
  19. Very nice coils and cars in the pic... one question though... how long has your thread title read Re: Rob's R32 Corrado...
  20. Yea, i've owned my rado long enough to get over the initial "oh wow i have a spoiler that goes up and down", but it still amuses me at times. I sometimes like to wave at my gf with my spoiler when shes driving behind me by putting it up and down once or twice. Although im not sure if its her laughing and using her "you sad bastard" face or having the spoiler that amuses me most. Oh and another perhaps not strange habbit but rather than sit in my car and roll my windows up, i just lock it and hold the key. I think thats just a show off thing though!
  21. When i bought my car it had a blank in its place. It managed to pass its first MOT but with my dad being VOSA he nagged me for a full year to get an ABS button i finally caved and hey ho presto plugged it in and light was on. Worst thing i've ever done sorting my ABS light out, it now goes off but i have the most annoying problem in the world, it likes to put the brakes on as im just braking lightly to slow down at about 5mph or put the brake bite point right at the very top as im rolling at about 5-10mph. Problem i need to solve but thats for another thread. Basically everyone takes them out for one reason or another and they break (i resisted the pun there). The casings are crap so either the front falls off or the stupid clips at the back snap off.
  22. in breaking news, pedestrians will be getting fines for crossing with a couple of seconds remaining (orange light status).
  23. Forgot about turning my MFA to oil temp, once upto temp and running steadily i can then shift my attention to MPG if required :) For some reason my spoiler goes up at 55 so along a country road when stuck doing 50 behind a car, i have to drop back a little and accelerate to 55 to get it raised!
  24. I used to get in, turn the engine on then try and find a sweet spot by wiggling the key a little to get the radio on when the ignition switch was knackered. Now i just jump in, switch on, open sunroof on tilt and away i go :D I always give it a glance backwards as i walk past it though
  25. I have a feeling that is going to be hanging around for a while, not even someone from edition38 would pay that much for a mk2 16v! 5th gear is a bag of poo anyway, people seem to think that just because its been on TV you can hype the price up stupidly. Im guessing that that eejit Tiff Needel has wragged the living crap out of it round a track as well and hes not the kind of person to be bothered about things like a clutch or gearbox etc.
