Hey Andy. Blue temp sensor is 10 bucks and about 15 mins to do. for that price I would change it anyway and have done. The car will run like nails if the BTS is knackered, as the ECU reads this constantly, as you know. Put the wiring right, and go from there. Make sure the coolant is not too hot when you pull it out, and if your quick you won't need to top the coolant up too much. Good Luck Dic

Sounds like temp sensor to me. Mine was shitte for a while. Turned out to be Blue Temp Sensor. ECU has three default settings if it's f / #"/%. Means the ecu thinks its -49 degrees for first few mins, then 20 degrees for a while then 77 degrees, and sets fuel etc for those temps Vag com will tell you. I bought a lead from ebay and downloaded the shareware from ross tech. Best 20 quid i ever spent. have fun, and don't worry, the new sensor is about 10 quid. Cheap fix for a C Dic

Once got 38 on a trip to Scotland from Oxford in a 1.8 GTX Scirroco. Ahhhh the days of cheap petrol. Sadly gone forever. Thank you Mr Bush

Hi. sounds like handbrake mechanism has partially seized. i personally rarely use my handbrake, except when I have too. You could try partial dismantle on car and go the bucket of WD40 route. Alternatively you can get recon calipers. About 80 bucks a side I think. Common problem. I think I also read on here somehting about an upgrade, but can't remember what it was. Good Luck Check rear wheel bearings as well, that will cause awful noises too.

Hiya. Might be a non starter, but mine was similar and ended up being a temp sensor, but it was vr6. I'm not that clued up with the 2 litre and not sure if the temp sensors play such a major role as they do on the vr6. Good luck Dic

Hi and happy new year from over here. No brainer really. VR6 every time. I have a 2.0l 16v and a VR6. Know which I would be driving. A good Corrado sold with the right advert will sell well. A shitte advert and you'll get peanuts. I reckon if its a good un, 1500 is acheivable. Good luck Dic

Oh bugger Ordered now, maybe not pick it up and go the samco route. F##$%& more dosh. Will lag it tho Thanks

Having major issuess with mine overheating, but have found 2 easy fixes. One vag com it and make sure coolant sensors are okay. My fan cuts in at 86 degrees on the vagcom readings, not the temp gauge in the car. The cap on the expansion bottle is cheap and regulaly fails so for a few quid change it anyway. Mine has just thrown it's water everywhere whilst ontop of a mountain here in Portugal. Felt just like blighty. About 6 degrees, cloudy and raining. Split top hose so not major. have fun Dic

Well thats typical isn't it. Got a new blue coolant temp sensor fitted, leaving the air intake sensor for another day. Drove to the top of our nearest mountain into the clouds. Pop went the coolant hose on the top of the engine next to the heat exchanger. F--/$/& went I and jury rigged it and drove to nearest VW stealers and ordered another. I still love her tho..............

many thanks mate. shall go and check my wiring. Summer and winter here are warmer than there, but won't rub it in. Cheers

Car was originally a UK car. I understand it's a blank, but surely there would be no feed to it, and the ecu would be programmed not to have a value. I shall not worry about it if it is usually a blank. I shall drive my car and enjoy it before it goes wrong again God I love my C but she can be a pain Thanks

Merry xmas one and all. Quick question about my 1993 vr6. I have just done vag com and rectified load of problems. I have one remaining which is causing a few head scratchings. It concerns the air intake temp sensor. My local VW stealer here in Portugal can only find a hose with the relevant part number I have. 021 103 687. This is stamped on the part I have, but inside it there seem to be no connectors. There is a electrical connection to this part, which has a feed, but with no connectors I don't see the point. The fault code on the vag com is 00527 Air intake temperature sensor open circuit or something like that. However the vag com block readings are showing the air intake temp to be 19.6 degrees c. Is this a safe setting or just a standard setting My view is of course it's gonna be that if there are no connectors inside the sensor- can anyone enlighten me on this matter, as I'm lost. Car does however seem to run very well, with a few intermittent hiccups due to needing to clean lamda sensor connections. Insight is a wonderful thing, but at the moment the only sight I have is blank Cheers for anyones help Dic

Problems with fitting new piston rings (pic of tool)
AlgarveVR6 replied to ziderapple's topic in Engine Bay
Hey Crasher. The tool you describe is great, except as far as I know it's just for the 2.8. never made one for the 2.9, but kick my butt if i'm wrong. When i tried to get one for the 2.9, one could not be found, only 2.8 Dic PS Bently manual is for the american market, therefore only 2.8. Good book non the less. Lost without mine -
Problems with fitting new piston rings (pic of tool)
AlgarveVR6 replied to ziderapple's topic in Engine Bay
HI Chris. Just had mine completely rebuilt and the garage had the same issue. They bought a standard compressor, and then ground the base off at 15 degrees I think it was. Anyway, whatever the angle is, is what to grind it to. Plently of lubricant too. have fun Dic -
Anybody help with my dirty starting issue. Clouds have gone, sun is bright, surfs up, but my C has a bad cough when she starts. :(
-
sorry grozzy, but if you want to repair mech then whole assembly usually has to come out. it is possible to slide things out the back with the roof lining hanging down a bit, but can be fiddly. bite the bullet and take it out. bin bag works just as well for a while, just don't worry aabout the temporary colour match, or the weather. it's quite hot here in Portugal tho.

Hi Kongo, Moved here about 9 months ago, near to Aljezur on the west coast. Anyone any help on my dirty start problem Please :(
-
hi Yes you can swap afterwards. Tip tho. Use baby wipes to keep your hands clean. Just unbolt the 4 mounting screws after sliding back internal panel. Have fun Dic

Hi Was a member years ago, but my VR6 has only just come back to life after a years lay up. Quick question which is bugging me. On start up, hot or cold, no diference, I get a sooty exhaust discharge. Not oil, engine only just rebuilt and it was there before. The sootyness dissapears after 30 seconds or so. I have 2 ISV's and they both work, and they both make no difference. Any suggestions. One quick thing, a year or so ago, i changed the isv damper cos the old one blew up for some reason. Thanks for the help Dic
