  1. Thanks Rodders - that backs up all I've read recently about the 944. In addition - just got my VR back from it's MOT - haven't driven it for a while and forgot how ****ing fast it is. I have an AMD rolling road printout after its' remap a while back and it dyno'd at 213 BHP - (sounds optimistic) - but if it is right - it ain't far off the 220 of a 944. Think I'll stick with the VR :D Cheers
  2. Interesting stuff. Funny - every time I start to think of changing the VR, I always come back to the basic rule that I'd have to spend quite a bit to beat the all round VR abilities 8) I will wait to see what Rodders has to say then!!
  3. Hi all Saw an earlier thread about replacing a VR with a 944S2 or Audi TT - but how would a 944 Turbo compare with a VR? I'm thinking later 250bhp version? Now - I love my VR - however, have always fancied a Porsche - BUT - I find it difficult to think of it being better all round than a Corrado - (and Evo Mag seems to agree) . . Just thought - what about a VR compared to a Fiat Coupe Turbo?? Discuss . . .
  4. Hi all Seen a few posts on this, but not sure there are any defo solutions so here goes. OK - the VR has been resting for a while - to the extent the battery flattened itself. Have bought a new one today and fitted and the car started no probs, but the indicators (sometimes all, sometimes just front and side) seem to flash with a mind of their own. But - when sitting in the car, they flash about four times - then stop for about 5 secs, then flash 4 times again and so on. If I switch off, there is a clicking noise and sometimes the indicators stay on, other times not! Battery is currently disconnected as I don't want to drain it over night. I know I need to check all the relays and fuses as per other similar posts - but it's dark now - is there anything else I can check? Has there been a definitive answer to this and similar problems? Cheers all
  5. Hi all Thanks for the advice! I took the pipe off and (despite being 41 and fairly inflexible) was able to see the butterfly in the TB myself whilst flooring the accelerator. When the pedal is fully down, the butterfly is not fully open - (I am presuming it should move through a full 90 so it has the optimum opening ?). I guess it turns through only 60-70. Also, there seems to be quite a lot of liquid in the pipe - (not awash or running out - more like a reasonable coating) - should it be like that? So - how do I adjust the cable to ensure it opens the full 90?? Sorry if that should be obvious - I just want to be sure :? Thanks all
  6. Hi all OK - fitted a nice enlarged and polished TB recently - (thanks German Customs !!). Would this effect the throttle cable in any way? The VR now feels like even though my accelerator foot is to the floor, I'm not getting the full throttle effect ? It'll hit the rev limiter no problem, just doesn't feel like I'm getting there as quickly as I should at full throttle. (Not sure I'm explaining that properly) . . Any thoughts? Cheers
  7. Thanks for the thoughts! Better get back for a piccie sharpish then !! Cheers
  8. Morning all Courtesy of one of those large oncoming 4WDs on the lanes this morning I had to drive my way through a fairly hefty pothole that had newly appeared overnight :x Bit of a nasty suspension crash and now the steering wheel is off-centre (points to 10.30 instead of 12 o'clock as you look at it), but the car still seems to drive OK. I did notice at slow speed on a right turn, it did not want to self-centre though - but I have been driving an old Manta recently, so the term "nice steering feel" is a bit of a distant memory to me at the moment so not totally sure on the general feel  Does this all sound like the alignment has been knocked out? Anyone ever had any success at compensation for this type of thing? Cheers all
  9. Thanks for the ideas - it is for my other car - which is a 1.3 Metro, which has had a few mods. Just need to get it set up correctly. Cheers PS - apologies for driving a metro!
  10. Anyone know of a RRoad near(ish) to Watford in Herts??
  11. OK - took a quick look under there as described - (finally got around to it !!) - and could not see anything obvious. Any other ideas - it seems to do it through turns as well Cheers
  12. Presumably - but does it work, and is it better value?
  13. I have a copy of Practical Performance Car and there is an advert for an inline octane booster from a company called Formula Power. Apparently, it fits into your existing fuel line and - without any adjustment, converts 95 RON fuel to 100! It says it comes with a 100K mile guarantee - and costs around £60 for up to 3.5 litre engines. Anyone heard of this? Any good?
  14. I'm getting a slight knock from what feels like the drivers wheel area when accelerating from standing - (or if booting it in second from low speed). It was jacked up yesterday for the MOT and I understand the suspension can sometimes need reseating in thecaps in these circumstances - the MOT place put it back up on the ramp and could not see any problem. All bushes, suspension parts looked fine - (and should be as they've virtually all been replaced) - any ideas??

    weerd stering

Could differing wheel bolts have an effect on this. I've been told my wheel bolts aren't all the same - I also have the odd vague steering episode!
  16. Am loving the new set-up fitted by Stealth recently - more comfortable ride and I can get over the local speed-humps at last. Anyway - may adjust the Konis, what settings do people find best and how does a difference front to rear affect the handling - ie do stiffer rears lead to oversteer etc? I haven't changed it since it was set by Stealth - but not sure what they set it at. Cheers
  17. Green VR - I think N reg in Croxley yesterday. I was the waving muppet on the bike. Anyone here?
  18. I may be able to start the ball rolling - (or dominoes toppling) - as I have access to another car, so the VR can be without TB for a while. Just need to see if I can scrape the cash together!
  19. I'm emailing about one too. Only mods I have are a K&N Panel filter an AmD remap - I assume I can just change the TB - with no further adjustment?? How does this affect MPG - (not that this is likely top stop me getting one as it sounds awesome!!!)
  20. OK - on the rear corner of the car on the drivers side to the right of the "Corrado" badge, there is a seam just above the bumper. The paint has split here and there is a touch of rust bubbling through. Has anyone else encountered this - or could this point to a dodgy past repair?? I wonder, because there is some rust on the drivers side rear wheelearch too.

    Noisy VR6 engine

OK - taken the VR to alocal garage - they have diagnosed the power steering pump has gone and are going ahead with replacement. All in for about £250. Hope this solves it !
  23. Thanks - I'll give this a try!

    Noisy VR6 engine

Another question - who would be good to get an opinion from? Don't really want to go to VAG as I have no confidence in them and want to avoid their whopping great bills!!! Nic Saran (NSRacing) are just about within a free recovery trip. Anyone have any dealings with them???

    Noisy VR6 engine

Had Green Flag out and at first, he thought it may be water-pump, or maybe alternator. It seems to be squeaking and does have that sort of dry water pump noise. There are various squeals and rattles, but the engine itself still seems smooth and seems to rev cleanly. Could this be the dreaded chains need doing?? Car has done only 84K and serviced regularly. If it is this, do they go as suddenly as this - or are there more early warning signs?
