  1. the small boss does fit ! take off your stalk assemblys, use a small puller and take the splined adaptor off ! you now have a smaller spline underneath which your boss will fit
  2. replace standard rear calipers with mk4 alloy ones, must be a saving of 2kg per side ! Put some 4 pot alloys on the front and save another 2kg per side Replace fuel tank with older smaller size, and only half fill it Bypass heater and remove matrix, heater blower and all trunking (it will still look oe) Take dust shields of brakes ,
  3. when optimax first came out, it was advertised how clean it burned, and showed you the cylinder head after a zillion miles, hardly a carbon deposit in site ! my head gasket blew at 80,000 miles so i gave it the mother of all decokes, had it skimmed, valves reground in, and then back together ! Ran it on nothing, and i mean NOTHING but Optimax at 100,000 miles i was unlucky to have another headgasket blow! Head off, and yes it looked like Mr.Carbon had made it his buisness to coat EVERYTHING !! I wont buy Shell petrol ever again :censored: its been Mr.Sainsburys for me the last 36,000 miles, and no more head gasket failure ! Coincedence ? or conspiracy , anyway i blame the french
  4. I have a solution !!!!! part number-6KO919243 its fiddly, but it does fit,all i had to do was bend one terminal. Now all i have to do is find a replacement bulb for my heater controls ! Only available with the fascia, it seems a bit extravagant at £35 !!
  5. on the rear of the lower shelf (fuse box cover) is a list of fuses and what they do
  6. the rear brake sticky is more involved, the 256-280 is straight forward its practically a straight swap ! discs are the same, but larger, calipers and carriers are the same but a little wider ! only because they use wider pads, if you didnt want to use your new calipers ,you could use the G60/VR6 carriers and your exsisting pads ! its a straight forward swap, and you will the difference on your brake pedal
  7. carrier bolts, and the rubber boots, brake fluid, copper grease, torqueseal kettle, T-bags but on a serious note, you are worrying over nothing, do it this weekend, and gloat on this thread when your done if i was nearer id come and give you a hand
  8. It is a simple swap ! the only part that could be difficult,is removing the screw that holds the disc on,a good impact driver usually sorts this out, You may find your screws are missing, which will only make your job easier. Keep all threads clean, especially the hoses, and use thread lock on mounting bolts, torque to recomended figures You will have a feeling of self satisfaction when done, and it will feel more like your own car good luck
  9. new rubber boots for the carriers ? cheap from the stealers
  10. You dont need hubs unless your going from 4 to 5 stud ! goodridge hose set are a worthwhile fitment
  11. couldnt get the wiki to work for me, but found this for you- viewtopic.php?f=19&t=4495&start=0&hilit=ignition+barrel
  12. Saw mine Sunday morning from Dungeness light house :D
  13. I believe it was the twinned horned one :notworthy:
  14. afraid not !! you have more then one electrical circuit going through your ignition switch ! high tension and low tension when my switch broke, bumped started it and drove home from work Mr.Henny`s right, :notworthy:
  15. Did you dissect the headgasket ? I know you said it may have come apart as you dismantled it, but are you sure there wasnt any carbon deposits between the layers of the gasket, when the engine is cold it fires on all four, but soon as it warms up(4or 5 secs) only onto two cylinders, I agree with you, its mechanical, not electrical. My money is on the headgasket ! keep us posted
  16. But have you the part number?
  17. Jim if you do get round to doing this, could you take some pics please ? I`am sure mine runs a little hot aswell, and have often thought of the mocal route
  18. They told me the leather one was obsolete, have you still got the part number for the leather one ? my parts guy isnt as good as yours :(
  19. mine went the same way as yours plus if left on a frosty night, it would freeze ! in the end i put mk4 calipers and new corrado cables on All i can tell you is its cured it -looks good aswell ! Try your cables first ,it wont hurt to replasce them
  20. Are your carrier bolts rust free and greased ? The rubber boots on the carriers are not split ? Your cables in tip top condition ? they are at least 16 years old !
  21. pumps still available from the stealers-£250 !!! there seems to be three part numbers for the pumps-10 & 11 pin plugs chances are they are used on other models, but without wandering around the breakers, or a friendly parts guy we are going to have to wait for someone with superior knowledge to tell us
  22. handle and trim still available from the stealers- but only in black trim £17 ! handle £3.63 i bought them this week !
  23. If you've got the 9A code engine of the 16v , not the KR, then you can buy the Pink Haynes for the Passat, much of the running gear and engine are the same. Is that the one 88-92 ?
  24. The glove box is as easy ,if not easier then the doors, dont know about the boot
