Your upset is understandable and its easy to be wise after the event. I think as you say many cars of this age will have some history. Personally I would endeavour to gather documentary evidence to show the extent of any loss or damage and subsequent repairs. Together with a willingness to allow an engineeers report this may reassure potential purchasers although the price will inevitably suffer. Many years ago I had a Capri 2.0S written off because the front Recaros and RS alloys were stolen the car was perfect

Are you likely to have any with the OE connectors?

Thanks everyone. Only one screw head was rusted the threads are perfect as are the other bolts. Went for the Phillips pan head as a near stock replacement as above, thanks.

I think your mind is made up despite what anyone says, you obviously want the shocks and springs. I just hope you get the ride height you want, the ride quality? well you'll perhaps never know

Can anyone offer any help or advice. I'm looking to replace the four screw headed bolts that fix the struts to the tailgate. Enquiries at the local dealership suggest they are obsolete?? Anyone know diiferently? If they are obsolete firstly does anyone have or know where I can get new old stock items or perhaps of a suitable OE style substitute ( correct in function and appaearance). Alternatively mint second hand items? Thanks

I think its far more cost effective to buy a completed conversion (subject to quality of car and conversion) and then sell your own on. The cost of a conversion is more than many Corrados cost/ are worth..

Its not bling just very clean :shock: , do it insitu by periodically going back to it using degreaser and a brush etc or scotchbrite and it will come up much better

Some people are hugely passionate about them particularly their quirkiness, easy tunability and distinctive sound. However they are something of a marmite engine.

As one of the very finest Corrados in existence i'm not sure much of this applies to your car :notworthy:

thats true over the years i've seen people spend thousands on their cars even 20vt conversions etc when the car is a wreck. I always try to make sure everything is mechanically and structurally spot on as a priority

Corrado seats fit with a very low seating position so other VW seats sit too high if you are looking for a straight fit. Many seats can be made to fit with suitable modifications or custom subframes

you want to look at Bally's car to see how good the schmidts can look on a Corrado especially in 16", but either way they won't look right with the standard ride height. If staying with stock suspension stick with the solitudes. If you do go ahead with the ride height set and the right tyres fitment should be easy enough

Its an interesting topic, I can't pretend i'm totally against modified or custom Corrados far from it. I have huge respect for cars that show great vision, innovation and execution its the half arsed poorly executed examples I had in mind. Often sporting bolt on tat, cheap aftermarket accessories and wheels that are surely much better left stock.
