I have to admit the Ring scared the shit out of me. It is not so bad when you have a few laps under your belt and by a few I mean at least half a dozen. But when you are starting off its fookin terrifying  Even in a 360 bhp Evo I was getting blasted and flashed into oblivion by 911 RS's, big sports bikes, the ring taxis and full on le man cars. Left me a giberring if slightly excited wreck  I was only there for the weekend and the track was closed about 12 times due to serious crashes and there were two fatalities! A couple of guys in a 306 Gti we had been talking to wrote off their car, about 50m of armco and a brand new 996 GT3 RS they had no insurance and the bill was reckoned to be around £150k.... Finally had a big moment in my mates very well set up 450bhp Evo 8 trying to break 8 minutes, he managed to do a 8.11 but we had some properly scary 125mph sideways action on the way to it! I will just sit on the sofa i think and check out all of your videos from now on LOL (nice vid by the way tandino) My advice would be learn the track a bit by going out with other people first. Plenty of people are up for doing passenger rides. Take a helmet. Watch out for damp patches in the dips and under the trees. Take out insurance even if it is £300. Make sure your car is in top condition and finally have fun and soak up the atmosphere. Really is nothing like it on the planet 8)

What would you buy... - THE HOUSE! (but w. criteria...)

I must admit mate I think as you get older your lust for speed does wear off a little. So if you dont get one now you may find your not that bothered in 15 years time. Whether that is a bad thing or not I really dont know. My best mate had one kid last year and another just and has just bought a nice Skoda diesel estate and he really couldnt give a monkeys LOL, much to my utter distress! He even bought it from a dealer with barely any discount  Even at 'only' 36 I feel like my speed freak days are over. And lets be honest you just cannot drive fast on public roads anymore anyway. Much happier getting my adrenalin rushes from mountain biking whilst keeping a semblance of fitness going. Also feel like I wasted too much time and money on fast cars when I could have been doing better more worthwhile things with the cash. I would be more than happy in this than a 911 turbo nowadays and I bet it tops out at 90  cust-ride-porsche-blk.jpg[/attachment:2ls65cdg] Now what am I trying to say LOL. I guess what i am trying to say is that if you dont buy what you want now you may not ever experience your dream in the way you wished to experience it. No reason why you cannot find a keenly priced example of a 911 turbo and run it for a year without losing a bundle. Then perhaps look at a house with a garage for an Evo or Caterham that you can track or hill climb. On a slightly seperate note about houses.. I do think buying abroad makes a fair bit of sense at the moment. House prices in the UK are incredibly high and where I live at least 160k gets you a very so so 2 bedroom house. I am pretty much decided that I will buy abroad (and let it out) and rent the house I would actually like to live in here in the UK. £650 a month will get me into a £300,000 3 bed cottage! Anyway whatever you do decide, dont have any regrets life is too short! Matt -

You have got me thinking aboout this loads now LOL I think if i was lucky enough to have a house with work and that was reasonably secure I would buy a house, but probably one abroad. So I can escape this country at will and then retire abroad  After all you can rent it to pay the mortgage and have free holidays. So I would go for this: 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf53831_4739_Orihuela_Cottage.jpg[/attachment:3su0alp9] And probably this to leave there  1993_alfa_romeo_spider-pic-8249014229015546466.jpg[/attachment:3su0alp9] -
Ok looks like £5k max with a discretionary ban. However most people get a few points and a 300 pound fine!
-
I wonder what the fine would be if I got stopped for having no insurance? Bet its only a slap on the wrist and £1k max :brickwall:

I can see there being plenty of cars being broken for a long time yet. Not sure its worth hoarding stuff unless you find it at a good price/exceptional condition Matt

Just thought. As a half way house you could get this..................... bmw_m5_concept_silver_pro_photo_wallpaper.gif[/attachment:bki5e0yv] -
No need mate, just let me borrow the RS4 when I need to move a chest of draws etc and you can borrow the Mazza anytime

Whenever I see one of those Maserarti's in the flesh I'm always slightly dissapointed......in pictures they look amazing but in real life the body seems to dwaf the wheels which makes it look at odds  Im the opposite! You just need to make sure that you have the 20 inch wheel upgrade ;) Saw a Merc SLR at the weekend as well in black. Now pictures do not do that car justice at all, not even one little bit 8)

to be honest, given the way Pete's tastes are progressing, i think its hard to see that the handling of any car that didnt cost at least £50k in the first place is going to be up to scratch, and that also pretty much writes off anything that isnt rwd or at least 4wd. also, given that there's no kids to worry about i would say its hard to see the next purchase not being a proper purpose-designed sports car. Not sure I would want to run a 'proper' car as an everyday car though. It should be in a garage and out at the weekend only. Keep costs low and expectations high! Bang for your buck you still cannot beat an evo. But Pete has already been there, although he should have tried it tuned before selling it! ;). Completely different animal. 400bhp in a evo is more than enough for any real road play time shinnanigans. I do know a fully forged Evo 6 Tommi Mak going for £12k Currently 470bhp but with some new injectors and turbo it would be easily 650bhp.... :norty: -
it would take quite a lot....

House would definitely be sensible option. However I am still of a mind that house prices will crash a bit in the next few years. So you could save 30k on a house just by waiting to buy..... If your job and house are secure then I would weigh up buying a depreciation free motor now. Not 100% on the 996 turbo.... Maybe a mk1 GT3 or BMW M3 CSL? I must admit I am not bowled over by M5 performance it is a heavy car after all. But remember that it is a heavy car for a reason, gorgeous large capacity engine, practical size, luxurious and great build quality. As Karl says there will always be someone faster. You certainly learn to live with that driving a Corrado VR  But the character wins out. If you are not feeling that with the M5 then perhaps it is time for a change. But you dont have to spend big bucks, how about a house and a £15k car? Edition 30 Golf with 2k spent on it would get you a very rapid 350bhp motor. Or a tuned RS4 or something. Not sure really but its an option. Matt -
Bloody hell thats a thug of a car

Hmmm just thought I would check my spec to see if it was indeed a 25mm up front. Turns out it has AutoTech Anti Roll Bar Kit 22m Front / 25mm Rear with poly bushes Still understeers like a b@stard in the rain though. And really nice and oversteery when pushing on. Keeps me on my toes at least  Im intrigued as to what it would be like now as std. Probably better! LOL
-
LOL that could explain a lot about my cars handling! I thought every tyre set I have ever had was shit :D
-
That is spot on. On a positive they are a very luxurious smaller car. If you want an effortless A to B car then get one. If you enjoy your driving then look elsewhere. Matt

Very nice wheels but wrong fitment unfortunately :(
