Now Rado-less. Mk2 gti 16v to soften the blow!
Portent replied to 8vMatt's topic in General Car Chat
That looks in supertb condition from the photos. Love the RM's although not madly keen on the pink. I still miss my old mk2 16v. Keeping the 2 lamp grille or reverting to 4? I need a mk2 in my life again. -
That looks super duper :)

These threads come up from time to time :) Given a choice between two cars with low and high mileage I'd take the low mileage if the condition and history was on a par. But condition and history is more important than simple low mileage. Anyone buying an enthusiast/classic car without coming to the various owner forums for research and advice, and simply buying from PH, AT or eB, is not buying wisely.

And this is the reason I'm reluctant to fit my replacement splitter. The one on the car has a big crack in it and I have a used spare ready to go on but I'm convinced I'll just crack it again the second I get out of my driveway :(

It has been a madly busy time for me lately but I managed to take a freshly washed/polished/waxed Corrado out for a midnight drive tonight. Just me in the car, no kids. Roof and windows open. Music on. Driving through near empty roads with the stars above. Compared to a lot of cars I've driven recently it's the only one that I've felt like I'm actually driving rather than simply guiding in the general direction I want to go. Honestly I don't think any other car, including those costing many times the amount I bought it for, have given me the same simple pleasure. Bliss :) And now I'm sitting back at home slowly getting drunk while browsing the interwebs :hic:

That's a stunning bargain now.

Potential ban on car modifying NOW WITH PETITION
Portent replied to dragon green's topic in General Car Chat
The comparison between western countries and India/China isn't a very good one though. It's not as if we don't have regs in place already. We do have regs and they are in general very good. But I feel that the new regs are too ambiguous and not needed anyway. So rather than new regs in place of none (India / China), it is a case of new strict regs in place of already very good regs. -
I think I probably will be going down that route. I was looking at a few cars at dealers for ease of trade in with the service due. But haven't found the right car yet. So I think I'll get the mot, big service and haldex done and then look to sell and buy privately. Would you mind pm me how much you paid so I can guage how much they are selling for (rather than simply being advertised for). Thanks.

A I've said before, a real shame but understandable :( Yet another vrs convert I see.

Well done. I've been looking at mk5 GTI's to replace my 4mo and every time I get back into mine I can't believe how good it it. I'd say it is certainly a better car than most modern GTI's. The only reason we're thinking of changing is that my wife wants a more modern number plate parked on the drive :( It's quieter, smootherm more comfortable, faster and sounds better. Great cars and underrated. Can be picked up for buttons nowadays too (dealer offered me £2k trade in). I think it's ironic that my Corrado is now worth more than the main family car :D ^^ I see that one has Santa Monicas and winter pack. Nice.

I never sign these sorts of petitions because I'm pretty sure they are ignored. But just in case it does some good I've signed it. -
Edition 38..who's coming?
Portent replied to MedwayCorrado's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
I'm afraid I can't come because I don't have enough stickers on my car :( -
Bought some leather door handles from 8vmatt. Smooth deal. Thanks.

Fire extinguisher now in boot of car.
-
Yes it needs a cat. It will fail without one under the new regs.

Any structural engineers/surveyors on the forum? I need some advice!
Portent replied to eugopnosaj's topic in Off-topic Chat
All the issues are rectifiable. The electrical and boiler work is likely fairly small. But the structural issues around the window are concerning unless they have been remediated. They may also affect your mortgage and future buildings insurance. If the sellers cannotprove that the work has been done then I would personally either walk way or get a quote to fix it and then reduce my offer accordingly. Don't be rushed into a decision. Buyers are thin in the ground and if you did lose the property then it migh just be a good thing. -
Thanks. Tempted to replace it all and get it ticked off the "jobs to do list". I've got a new fuel filter sitting at home too so it makes sense to just replace it all in one go.

Interested in the brochure if Goldie doesn't take it.
-
Are the OEM fuel lines still available? After a bit of a scare with a drip due to a loose jubilee clip I also want to replace them to be absolutely sure. Better to be safe than sorry.
-
And another one... Blue (storm?) Coming the opposite way towards me in Claygate today at about 5pm. I flashed and waved. Was in mine.
-
I had a very close one today when I could smell petrol in the car. I popped the bonnet to look and could see a small drip of petrol coming from what I assume are the fuel lines. I was only 2 mins from home so I slowly drive home (car was still cold). It wasn't dropping when I got home but I found a jubilee clip wasn't as tight as it could be. I tightened it up and will keep an eye on it but it was a stark reminder to carry am extinguisher. I will be getting one this week.
