1. I wish I wasn't so emotionally attached to my own car. There are so many nice ones around right now.
2. So a bit of interest then lol? I just phoned my local VW dealer and it is indeed obsolete (I only checked for the VR6 but I'd be extremely shocked if the G60 version was still available - it was £100.71 + VAT before being made obsolete). So I'll drop the company above an email and ask for a price.
3. That's actually not a bad shout. When I get a few spare minutes I'll check with my local VW dealer to confirm they are obsolete. I'll ping them an email asking for a delivered cost and enquire about discounts for a group buy. But I suspect we'll get stung quite heavily for import costs and delivery. Their ebay advert quotes $40 for delivery.
4. Thanks for the thoughts so far. The Octavia isn't a bad shout, but I don't think my wife would like it (wrong badge and it has a boot - she likes the size and shape of Golfs). I've tried approaching the subject of Jetta's as they are essentially a Golf witha boot but much better value and she doesn't like the boot. I've even suggested a 1 series BMW or older 3 series... she wants another Golf. I must admit I will really miss the 4wd if we change the car. It does seem to make more financial sense to keep it.
5. I've owned my 2003 5dr Indigo blue V6 4Mo since it was 6 months old. Despite losing so much money over that time in depreciation it has been a fantastic family car. Being an ex-demonstrator it was fairly highly specced with heated leather, climate, winter pack, uprated audio (even with rare audio controls on the steering wheel), uprated factory suspension and optional santa monica alloys. While the mk4 doesn't get much love in the wider community I really love the car. It's a lovely quiet, smooth place to be and it has been an effortless cruiser. With Haldex it is a very sure footed car and able to put its reasonable torque down without drama. It is currently on only 60k so is low mileage. It is in generally excellent condition inclusing bodywork which usually has any minor issue fixed. Full VAG history obviously. However it is now worth very little, is starting to show a few niggles that need fixing, needs the rear suspension bushes replacing and is due the larger 60k service including Haldex service. I'm probably going to need to spend around £1k on it in the next couple of months not including tax and MOT. So I'm starting to wonder if it is worth part exchanging it for a mk5 Golf. Looking around I can probably get a 5dr GTI for around £6k to £7k. It isn't much newer and would still be higher mileage that the 4Mo. It also wont have the sure footedness of Haldex which I love and the creamy low down pull of the V6. But at least it will retain some value in the car. If I keep the 4Mo then it will be just about worthless in another couple of years. Also while driving an older car doesn't bother me (my other car is 18yrs old after all), I think it is starting to bother my wife slightly. The kids will be devastated though because they grew up in the car and don't want me to sell it. Despite the very few niggles it really is a really great car and I doubt there are many around in such good condition. Thoughts and opinions? Sell and upgrade or keep and run into the ground?
6. I've not asked them directly but a few people on here have said it went obsolete recently. But I'll try giving them a ring in the morning. You're a star. Thanks :)
7. Back in the 80's/90's my brother had a mk1 Storm and mk2 Storm which is why I ended up buying a mk2 GTX. I quite fancy a mk1 Rocco too at some point. That was the point I was trying to, drunkenly, get at. The Corrado simply doesn't have the traction in terms of numbers and therefore in peoples memories to achieve the same cult status. It will become a classic one day simply because it will be old. But not a cult car in the same way that E30 M3's are, or various Porsches... or mk1 GTI's. When I was looking for a Corrado I also considered a 944 as I'm sure that has a better chance of true classic status one day. Sorry, I know it shouldn't. But that made me laugh and just about sums up Corrado ownership. All love of the heart and little head thinking :)
8. I chuffing love your mk1 Scirocco :)
9. I believe this is now obsolete? I'm wondering if you can get a generic insulation cut to fit? After starting to clean my engine bay up it's atrting to annoy me that some of my insulation is a little torn. I'd obviously prefer something OEM but close-to-OEM would be sufficient if it tidied it up.
10. Nice. How did you find that? EDIT: Silly me, just realised it's yours. Doh!
11. Thanks. Might come back with some more questions. Im an indecisive bigger at the best of times so will have a think for a bitbit. Obviously if you get an offer in then don't wait for me. I really need to sort other things rather than buy engine parts :)
12. So distinctive compared to modern boxes :thumbleft:
13. Might be interested. I was quite tempted by the vsr on here recently but obviously this is cheaper. What's involved in fitting it? Any pics of It to show condition? I should have had a peek at it when we met to collect the splitter. Edit: just reread you can't post pics yet. But what's the condition like? Fully working? Polished our painted, etc?
14. This is why I try not to look at Corrado adverts in case i see something that's a gear deal and need to buy it. I just took a look at the advert though and that does look a very good buy.
15. All VR6 had speedline's as standard apart from storms which had solitudes.
16. Last evening I stuck my head under the bonnet to check something. Noticed a bit of grime and casually wiped it away. Then another bit. And another. An hour later I'd cleaned most of the easily reachable parts of the engine and underbonnet. Not to the standard of most of you guys of course but it certainly looks a little more presentable. Removing stubborn grease... yet another use for WD40 :D
17. I'm afraid I couldn't find the part number for the connector. I have so many invoices for "casing" and "connector" that it's impossible to tell from my pile. A spade connector should work but personally I prefer a proper connector. I made this up for the live connection to include the inline fuse:
18. I'll try to dig out the part number from when I ordered mine (I'm at work at the moment). But I've attached a (blurry!) picture here in case that helps:
19. Thanks. I've currently mounted it in a box and mounted that on the battery but it's not as tidy as I'd like. I'm not too keen on just leaving it laying around in front of the battery as I think that might cause problems in the future. I'll have a look for those bolts on the inner wing. I'd far prefer it is securely fastened somewhere and not dangling where water can collect. I'd also like it visible so that anyone in the future can easily trace it back to the fuse and relays if they lose the lights.
20. Sorry I started a debate :) I'm really not bothered by values (as I said before, I really don't think they will go up much if at all) and was simply drunk, bored and browsing mk1 GTI's for some reason. My first car was a mk1 1.3 Driver and it occurred to me I'd never actually owned a mk1 GTI. But I bought the Corrado because I wanted a Corrado. It just happened to be an older car. And I simply love the damn thing :smug:
21. I've noticed something over the last few months and it's something I've been expecting to happen for a number of years. Genuine Golf mk1 GTI values seem to be starting to move. It's still fairly subtle but poor cars are staying low priced and a few gems seem to be selling for strong money. This in my mind is important because until they do, the other models simply can't follow. The original GTI icon will, in my mind, be at the forefront of peoples minds. But have I imagined it? What I'm watching for is something similar to BMW E30 M3's that rocketed in value over just a few short years. Could a mk1 or mk2 get anywhere close to that? With decent mk1 GTI's rapidly disappearing I think their time may have come. So right now where is money best placed if you're looking to buy? mk1 GTI, mk2 GTI/16v/G60/Ralleye, Scirocco mk1, Scirocco mk2 or Corrado? Personally I still think it will be a long time before Corrados bounce. My view is that the smart money should get into one of the following: Golf mk1 GTI or mk2 Rallye. Ralleyes have been on the up for some time but how far will they go? But Corrado's could still turn out to be the joker in the pack and maybe right now is the time to find, and keep, the best one possible? So... sell the Corrado and buy into a mk1 GTI while there's still time? Of hold on and take a punt? P.S. I'm quite drunk so hopefully that all made sense?
22. I've fitted an uprated loom recently but I'm not yet happy with the placement of the relays. I've mounted them in a box but there seems no obvious place to locate the box. Where do you guys put yours? It's a superb upgrade though. I wish I'd done it ages ago.
23. This is exactly what the previous owner of mine did. The speakers were screwed on from the outside and then aftermarket grills put on top. I was never happy with the result as they did look a bit stuck on. But they sounded great. I now have Audioscapes. I'd really wanted them from the start. But in all honesty they annoy me a little because getting in and out of the car is more of a hassle (still wouldn't part with them due to rarity factor). Modifying your own is the way to go I think. But no idea how :D
