  1. Well done. I think it's the right decision even though it will be scary. Good luck.
  2. I would say that they are tricky to sell. They are a specialist car which reduces your pool of buyers and the market isn't good for any used car right now. But don't let that put you off. They are great cars :)
  3. Without knowing what the maternity leave job was my first instict was to suggest taking the bakers job while actively looking for a new job (less hours, same pay, less stress, and less likely to get fired due to more warnings). Keep in mind that the maternity role will be a fixed term contract and at the end of it you probably won't immediately be able to apply for unemployment benefit because you haven't actually been made redundant or unemployed (your contract simply came to an end which is different I think). However, now I know what the maternity role is I would suggest considering it... A customer services role on top of a team leader ole looks much better on the CV than a bakers job. So if you think you could risk being out of a job for a few months then take the customer services job and look for something while working there. You can also see if they have an internal job board (it's a big company - they will) to spply for other jobs there.
  4. That looks nice. I wish I'd kept my old 16v in a garage hidden away somewhere. It was 10 years old when I sold it and completely immaculate. They do look really basic however.
  5. Haha I knew you'd be looking to get back to ownership at some point! Bloody addictive aren't they :)
  6. Thanks but l think that meeting up to get the tickets would be very tricky as I'm quite far away from Goodwod myself and would have to meet with my brother somewhere first. So I really appreciate the offer but I'll pass simply because I don't think I'd be able to make it work. I'll step aside for someone closer to Steve.
  7. No problem. I wouldn't have been able to get there anyway :)
  8. I would love these. I'll take them. I assume they aren't normally free? Thank you :D EDIT: Just realised you're probably nowhere near me so I'm not sure if I could collect. Where are you located?
  9. Absolutely Exhausted Righto, time for a quick update. I've been having exhaust nightmares recently after getting the cat put back on. I've taken it back once for an annoying knock but put it on the axle stands myself today and had a nose around. I think I've managed to iron out most of the knocks and it appears to be the exhaust expanding towards the back of the car and hitting the rear beam. I think I've fixed that. But it's early days, not yet perfect, and time will tell :) If nothing else, this car has taught me to get my hands dirty as I would never have done that with my previous cars. However I've noticed the join between the cat and the rest of the exhaust isn't tight and it is blowing very slightly. So I'll take it back again for looking at. It's not too bad and I could live with it. But I want it done right and I was never really happy with how loud it was pre-cat. The cat has quietened it down a lot so I want it done properly. I can See The Light! While I happened to be in a car mood I had a look at how to install the uprated headlight loom that I've had since before I bought the car. It looked simple enough and before I knew it I'd thrown caution to the wind and installed it. I also mounted the relays inside a splashproof container and wrapped most of the new wires and connections in loom tape for longevity. It was all quite simple really. And MY GOD WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT MAKES. I've no idea what bulbs the previous owner put in there but I'm absolutely loving it :) Not only can I see in the dark now but the lights look white rather than yellow. Quite aside from the minor exhaust leak, which I will fix shortly, the car is feeling great. It had developed a few issues recently and for a while it hadn't been quite such a joy to drive. But I'm gradually sorting them out and I'm back to completely loving it again. I collected a 'new' splitter the other day and after a 2 hour round trip I arrived home still grinning and still wanting to take the long route. The recent engine and gearbox mount replacement has paid dividends and even the gear change is lovely now (I'm pleasantly surprised how much nicer changing gear is). It might not be worth much and it might not be as modern and smooth/quiet as something more modern. But I chuffing love this car :) I've owned some nice cars in the past but nothing makes me smile inside like this does. Questions Now onto a couple of questions: 1) I want to swap over my slam panel with a spare I have that U'm going to get sprayed up soon (old one has a small annoying dent). I'm assuming it's not a simple job. But does anyone have any pointers or cautionary tales? I won't be doing it for a few months I expect. 2) How do I remove the passenger side rear door card? There is a most annoying tap/rattle/knock behind there and I want to fix it. EDIT: And a special note for a very special artist: RIP Mary Fedden (14 August 1915 – 22 June 2012)
  10. Jesus that's a poor turnout! After buying my car last year Inters was the one show I really had to go to. It has fond memories for me as I went to it when I had my old grey mk2 16v back in the late 90's. So returning last year had a lot of sentimental value. This year I did want to go and it's not too far from me. But I missed the deadline for booking a stand place, the weather has been awful recently, and more significantly I worked a 17 hour day on Saturday, only finishing at about 2:30am on Sunday (tip for anyone thinking of working for a bank in IT... don't!). I can't believe that Stanford Hall still has vacancies too. I think a lot of it is the weather. Why plan to go somewhere when there is a 70% chance of getting very wet? Also, quite significantly, some of the 'big hitters' in the Corrado scene have either sold up recently or seem to be considering it. I'm seriously considering putting my name down simply to make sure we have more than a couple of Corrados there. But I'm not quite sure yet if I'm free. But I do have to agree with Jim. Aside from my sentimental view of Inters from my youth, I'm now more interested in classic car shows and representing the Corrado there. VAG events now seem to be just a showcase for whoever has the bggest wallet or can make their wheels disappear under the wheel arch (how do they do that - I cant even get out of my drive without scraping the splitter and I'm not low at all). Also... all the best to those that were injured today.

    Timing Chains

They were meant to be a lifetime part and unfortunately tyhere is no real way of confirming if they need doing unless someone takes a look at them. Mine were done at around 135k I think. Some cars can go for much, much, higher mileage without the work being done. Sometimes they cause noise but not always. Personally I'd be ok at 80k but would start considering it at 120k but that's just me and there isn't an official answer. The dealer will be hugely expensive. Mine were done at D&G for around £1k but that included some other work too (so maybe £800 to £900???).
  13. Very well done. You can justifiably be very proud of yourself :notworthy:
  14. But under the new rules won't you have to re-sorn it once you're home and the day insurance runs out? If the car is taxed then it has to be insured now doesn't it? i.e. get day insurance, tax it, drive home, insurance expires so you now need to SORN it again.
  15. I'm sure I read in the news that most European countries now accept Corrado Script Badges as legal tender due to it being a far more stable unit of currency than the Euro.
  16. I'm still getting lockups of IE7 at work (never on Firefox at home). Two examples from today was when just trying to navigate to the homepage with simply www.the-corrado.net: 1) At approx 12:10pm it locked while "waiting for http://ad-emea.doubleclick.net/adi/N32..." (couldn't see the rest). 2) At approx 12:13pm it locked while "waiting for http://the-corrado.net/form.php..." The times could be out by a few mins but that hopefully will help with any server logs. When it happens that instance of IE7 becomes completely unresponsive on all tabs but another instance of IE7 is fine (e.g. if I have two windows open, each with tabs in then only one windo locks up).
  17. Welcome to the forum. There are people on here far more knowledagble than myself but as no-one has yest replied... Each model has different advantages and disadvantages: G60 - Quite rare now. Early interior only (and mostly early front end wings, bonnet, bumper). Less power than a VR6 but more easily tunable. Generally used to be cheaper to maintain... but the G-Lader charger is fauirly unusual technology and I'm not sure how easy it is nowadays to get them serviced? I'm a VR6 owner so that's hard to comment. The G60 has a very unique engine noise due to the charger. It's also slightly lighter than the VR6 so handling would be marginally better. VR6 - Lovely deep growl to the engine. Smoother power delivery but most of that power is at the top end of the rev range. Hold onto the revs and you'll feel a very strong pull and wet yourself with the lovely noise the thing makes :D It's also an unusual V6 in that it has a single head (VR6 literally means a narrow angle V6). Slightly heavier at the front than the other models. Late models only (so late interior and front end - apart from the very limited edition ampaign model that I think had an early interior). The last 500 cars were designated Storm models with unique badging, leather interior, different alloys and only two colour combinations. 16v - Lighter that the VR6 but not as powerful as the VR6 or G60. Cheaper to buy, insure and run though. 8v - Similar to 16v but with less power. Good for a daily runner and less likely to have been abused by owners. This was the budget model at the time. I love my VR6 but have a secret hankering for a G60 (shhh, don't tell the rest of the forum that!). The 16v and 8v are still good cars but less powerful (possibly a good option for a 1.8t swap?). As you say, it's 20yr old car, so there will be many things to look out for Typical faults are sunroof failure (motor or mechanism snapped), spoiler failure (usually motor), heater matrix failure (checo to replace but requires the dashboard to be removed - so check car history for a replacement which would be a good thing). G60 check for charger servicing. VR6 check for any history of chain/tensioner relacement (they were meant to last a lifetime but can get noisy when high mileage and a failure is very bad - failure is quite rare though). Rust is another concern as the panels were made by Karmann and, like many other parts of the car, are now obolete.
  18. I can't help with the technical stuff. But welcome to the forum :)
  19. Yes I'm going to pass on the splitter so it's all yours :)

    Front splitter

Thanks all but I think I've sorted one. I will come back if it doesn't work out for any reason.
  21. What size and condition is the splitter? Do you have the little strap that holds the tool kit inside the spare wheel?

    Front splitter

Anyone got one? 90mm preferred, 50mm considered. Must be in very good condition with minimal damage. Thanks.
