Thanks. Will check that.

Thanks Abdul. I'll get the details tomorrow as it's cold and dark out there and my bed is calling me now :)

National Day 2012: Sunday 20 May: Brooklands
Portent replied to Tempest's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
It's my wife's birthday weekend. The way I look at it, she'll have another one next year so I'm coming to this  -
Thanks. Yes, agreed. They don't sit quite right. I'm just starting to look into wheels as I'm a complete noob on that. I'm tempted to go a touch larger at 17" but it will compromise comfort somewhat. But every time I start reading into it all I see is a jumble of meaningless letters and numbers

The weird thing is, the previous owner also had some trouble selling it. It was still a fantastic car back then too. I guess it's just one of those cars that doesn't like to change owners. Really odd.

Agree the 17" has more presence. I wanted 16" on mine but I'm gradually coming around to 17". 16's here... Thinking about changing mine at some point but the roads near me are terrible so 16's are more comfy.

A few recent updates. Nothing big but little improvements here and there. Pretty boring stuff compared to some of the restorations going on out there but I just spent 10 mins putting the new rear wiper on so I thought I'd post some recent stuff: Excuse the night shots. I grabbed a new rear wiper when Pat_McCrotch was selling some near obsolete items so decided to swap my slightly aged one over. The plastic cap on the end had broken on mine and faded badly too. I managed to get hold of a spare old one recently so I sanded it, primed it and sprayed it. It looks much better now: Refurbishing the spare cap (tired and faded left, refurbished right). Old wiper and cap (left) with new wiper and refurbished cap (right). The night shots don't really show the difference but it really tidies up the rear end. I also finally got around to replacing one of the dash blanks that still has an LED in it from an old, removed alarm. It annoyed the hell out of me that there was an unused LED in it so I replaced it. It's the little details that annoy me if they aren't right. And I've also refurbished a spare set of grab handles. Sorry no in-car pictures but you can see the difference it makes below to the repainted one: Strut caps and wiper motor cover now in place. That rusty bracket is annoying me so will probably get dealt with shortly. And finally, a quick shot while parked at the hospital today. I'm having radiotherapy for the next couple of weeks so having to drive there daily. Not too serious, it's all under control and this is just preventative really. I wasn't happy taking the car out in the rain but my wife needed the Golf. All fairly small updates but gradually making progress on the little niggly things.

Lovely quattro. But unfortunately it sold for way less than what it was worth. It wasn't big money at all. It deserved to sell for £1k to £2k more based on condition. It really was a show car owned and loved by an enthusiast too.
-
But you'd have a dilema... make the model and ruin its value or forever keep it in a box and not enjoy it.
-
Yes I'll have it thanks. But let me have a think and I may take both sides if you'll do a discount deal. I'll reply in your breaking thread tomorrow as I may want some other parts too. Thanks for the offer but I'll go with Vorn for now.

Glad you managed to get a sale. Hope the new couple appreciate it. Did you point them in the direction of the forum? See you back in a few months when you get the urge to buy another :)
-
Glad you managed to get a sale. A bit sad though.

Look like 16" RX2, same as on mine. I love mine although 17s would give more presence. A very good compromise between comfort and look though.
-
Sounds good. How many sheckles would sir be wanting for it (inc delivery)?
-
I'm looking for a passenger side wing mirror including glass and motor. Minor stone chipping is ok and the colour is unimportant but it must be working, have no significant damage and good glass would be great too. Thanks, Adrian

Thanks for the feedback.

I just had to take the Corrado out in the pouring rain. Normally I take the golf if it's raining. It's filthy now. Not happy. Will have to throw a few buckets over it.
-
Possibly interested so what does this mean? I'm a noob when it comes to wheels.
-
I like the paint. I like the rear lights. I like the moon roof and I like the Santa Monica alloys. The bodykit not so much. But it's all personal preference at the end of the day and it's great to see a variation on the norm :)

^^ I like mine in black though. I like the contrast against a silver car or, in my case, grey. They come up micely when I treat them with a blackening oil (forget which I use). But I know I can get a better result with spraying. Not sure whether to keep the doro handles black or colour code those though.

Thanks. That's why I asked. I get the feeling that they have become a bit of a franchise. I'm guessing they charge slightly more than an average garage because of their name. I'm happy to pay that if they are still good but for basic servicing I'd only pay it if they still offer a better service than other decent local specialists.
-
Does ayone have any experience of AMD in Woking? Are they worth using above any other garage for general work?
-
What I don't understand is that we get a regular flow of new buyers coming to the site after they have bought cars with issues. But no-one is buying this. It's one of the best out there and even at the old price it was fantastic value. It's a steal now.

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably wait until I get a few body work issues sorted and then tackle it as I don't want to peel them off twice if they may bend. I've been spraying a few minor bits of trim recently and the difference is startling. The only problem is that once you start doing it you have to do the bit next to it... and so on :) I think I'll avoid a coating of laquer. I did put some on the inner door handles to protect against grease on peoples hands. But it is a little too shiny for the matt exterior trim.
-
I'm thinking of spraying my outside plastic side trims (the ones that go down the middle of the car) to restore their blackness. How are they held on? Also if anyone has done this then should I laquer the trim afterwards for protection? I'm assuming I should rub down, primer, then several top coats of a satin black. But I'm not sure whether to laquer them. It will add protection to the paint but I guess would make then shiny which is not what I'm trying to achieve. I'm just trying to restore them to proper black OEM rather than have to keep putting oil on them for an "ok" result every few weeks.
