Things you hate other people do to your car...
Portent replied to guildmage's topic in General Car Chat
I've got a grey Storm... honest. Well ok it's Storm grey but does that count? -
As for electrical stuff... check the sunroof goes back and forth easily (the motors and the linkages often break), check the spoiler raises and lowers smoothly and within about 5 secs (do with both on the manual switch under the drivers dash and at approx 60mph and dropping at near stopping speed). Also check both mirrors work (usually a motor or the switch fails - fairly simple fixes and switches can be cleaned up). These are old cars now and many people will have played around with the wiring so faults can be hard to track down.

That's still a bit strange as I thought the first VR's were in 93. But it may be different for different countries of course (e.g. ours are 2.9 rather than 2.8). It's hard to comment on the difference that cams make because the car had them when I bought it so I didn't get a chance to feel the difference. But it does feel more "urgent" than other cars I remember test driving. The previous owner got them done at the same time as the chains and tensioners were replaced so it made sense. But I don't think it will get anywhere near 250bhp. Our 2.9's start at 192bhp and with the cams, remap and exhaust I would think it's probably getting somewhere around 205bhp to 210bhp. But that's just a complete guess as it hasn't been on a rolling road in my ownership. Even if it's less then I wouldn't be unhappy as the car isn't all about speed for me. Getting 250bhp from a 2.8 NA (which has 174bhp doesn't it?) will be quite difficult and very, very expensive. If you're looking for power then forced induction is the way to go (either supercharging or turbocharging).

Welcome to the forum. I can't help with the technical issue but many on here can so hopefully someone more knowledgeable till be along shortly. But VW didn't make VR6 in 91 so if you've got the year correct then it has had an engine swap at some point.

People eating food in the car and dropping it on the mats or seats People swinging the door open so hard when they get out that it bounces back again. -
Maybe it's the sign of the sign of the times we live in.........

Not sure what was said in the thread but I did notice it had been locked. Really sorry to hear about your dog. many years ago I had to take mine to the vet and have her put to sleep. It's a horrible experience and just the same as losing a human family member. All the best. -
Parcel shelf straps are available new.from veedubmachine. They aren't original but are very very close. Same length but the loops are slightly tighter so just use a dab of washing up liquid to help squeeze them on: http://www.veedubmachine.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=101_102&products_id=957

A long distance drive back from buying a car is definitely fun and a memorable event. Welcome.

Newbie in Kent. Any Corrado owners local to me willing to give advice?

Also PM'd. -
That's true but having watched the market for a long time the bottom end is often filled with the poor examples that are boarderline breakers. Having said that a lot of top end stuff isn't selling either and prices are creeping down for good stuff. I spent about £2.7k on mine if I recall (the market has fallen a bit since last year though and I reckon I would have paid about £2.3k for that same car now. But then I spent around £1k on bits an pieces to tidy it up (new alarm, various bits of interior and exterior trim, fixing a few mechanical and electrical issues, etc). That doesn't include the better interior that I put in either and I still think I need to spend at least £1.5k to get the car bodywork and other items quite how I want it. It's not a cheap hobby and I thikn it would be cheaper to buy a slightly more expensive run of the mill average car :) But an average car wouldn't give me the grin I now have :)

Really appreciate that but I think me buying it is a bit of a pipe dream. Unlikely to happen. I'm OBD1 anyway and I guess the ECU will cost a bit.
-
Not sure if he installed the dash himself as I gather he bought the car to finish.
-
I was thinking the same :( However I know your resistance will crumble as you've got the technical knowledge to install it :)
-
I hope you changed the heater matrix before putting all that in there :D On a serious note... 87 Jetta 16v has a mk4 dash in his project car and it does look nice.
-
Do you mean the tool box? Doesn't it sit inside the spare wheel?
-
I wouldn't touch a £1500 vr or g60 with someone elses barge pole. Unless I had £1k to £2k to put into improving it.
-
I just looked at mine which says part number 1J0 035 456. But mine is a late mk4 and has a built in DSP. The label also says Nokia which surprised me.

Tried holding onto the pin while trying to open it?
-
I assume you've tried pulling the door pin up? What happens to the pin? Does it rise up or does it refuse to move?
-
Welcome. VR and G60 are equally good in different ways. But neither would be cheap to run and maintain. A valve would be a little cheaper on a tight budget. ^^ cute dog Anne :)

Corrado Dealers , Swadlincote, Derbyshire. Any locals?
Portent replied to kvwloon's topic in Suppliers Forum
That Amos motors Storm has God awful alloys. (EDIT: Not a reason in itself not to look at it of course - but factor in the cost of new wheels and tyres). I wouldn't exclude dealers but I also wouldn't go out of your way to buy from one. They sell to make a profit and so they generally have to buy cheap, tart it up as cheaply as possible, and sell it on again. You can get lucky of course and find a gem at a dealer but equally you might end up with a poor car which has been polished a lot. With a private sale you can chat to the owner and get a feel for how the car was looked after. It's even better if you can find one that has been owned on here andhas a build thread or other information from the seller on it. The youngest Corrado nowadays is 17 years old so it's not like buying a normal car from a dealer.
