Newbie in Kent. Any Corrado owners local to me willing to give advice?
Portent replied to Rhys's topic in Newbies Hangout
I travelled all over the country when looking for mine and saw probably around 10 cars over a year. I'm much rather a few long trips than restricting my pool to just local cars. You're more likely to find a good one that way. There's a meet at Krispy Kreme in New Malden near me at 11am on Sunday 29th April if you wanted to see several cars at once and chat to several owners. The event thread is here: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?60741-Krispy-Kreme-New-Malden-Surrey-Meet Also happy to pop over to somewhere near you at some point if you want. That way you'd get to view a valver (dragon green), a G60 (g60jaime), and a VR6 and decide what you're really after. -
I'll pm you my mobile number and if you can drop me a text from yours we can sort out a day/time for me to pop over. Thanks.

I've got a 2003 mk4 Golf with OEM head unit and OEM multi disc CD unit in the boot. I really don't know the head unit name but I would hazard a guess that it's some variant of the Gamma and that they should all be backwards compatible. I'll take a look when I get home tonight and see if there is any name on the CD changer.

So you went for the dizzy head? If so then I'd welcome your feedback once you've received it and had a look over it. VEGE confirmed that "a dizzy version will fit a coilpack corrado but it's not a straight fit".

Must. Resist. Spending. More. Money.

Would an OBD2 head fit on an OBD1 bottom end? Or would that involve additonal changes too? I'm just wondering if I get the wrong one then will it be a problem? ---------- Post added at 5:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 4:40 PM ---------- Ok I have a little more detail on the 1993-1997 one: "2.8i schrick 1993 1997 motronic hydraulic lifters, tuned version without hole in distributor cover, with air injection reactor" I'm starting to doubt that's the right one and I don't know enough to guess whether the 1992-1993 variant will work either. Any thoughts would be much appreciated but it may well be a case of flip a coin and take pot luck. ---------- Post added at 6:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 5:02 PM ---------- A little googling has shown that there is a slight difference between dizzy and coilpack heads; the coilpack heads have an air injector hole (no idea what that does). So potentially neither type will be a straight swap. I'm sure it could be made to fit but not sure the effort.

^^ Thanks for the above. Yes VEGE. Does anyone know the difference between: AAA code 1993 - 1997 Schrick variant AAA code 1992 - 1993 distributor variant I assume the 1993 - 1997 would be right for my coilpack 1994 VR. But why does it refer to Schrick?

Hypothetical question... if I were to source an alternate head then how much would it cost (ballpark figure in hours or cost) to get a garage to swap it over. i.e. drive in, hand the keys over and drive out. Nothing wrong with mine but I can get hold of a refurbished head for the future. My car has already had chains done and new cams but the previous owner didn't do any other work at the time so it seems a sensible precaution. To clarify... just the labour cost, not the cost of the head itself.

That just screams "get out of my way" when coming up in your rear view mirror.

Yes I would consider mk3 or mk4 seats. I think the connectors are slightly different on this models but the heated pads should be fundamentally the same. A further option is adapting an aftermarket kit but my preference is to use OEM parts where possible so that my current seats could be fitted to any car with a standard setup.
-
Thanks. I think I've got my head around it.

They should fit but will sit slightly higher than Corrado recaros as the sub frame doesn't sit as low. Also I'm not sure they are original mk2 recaros as they have a thigh bar which I don't recall the golf having. Edit: I just took another look and they definitely aren't golf recaros. Nice though and a decent price.
-
Yeah I'm not expecting to find any but can't hurt to ask :)

I'm looking to cannibalise the heated seat pads from a set of Corrado seats. So if anyone has a pair that are in poor condition then I would be interested in them. Not too interested in good condition seats as it would cost too much and would be a crime to cannibalise something rare. It's a long shot I know....

I could pop over at the weekend and compare it to the one on my car to check it's the right one. How much are you wanting for it?

Coventry Festival of Motoring - 26/8/2012
Portent replied to Tempest's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Tempted but it's a 200 mile round trip before starting on the 50 mile cruise. Looks a good event though. -
Isn't the 540 going to be a bit similar in character to your Merc? You must have had a reason to sell that so if you do get a 540 then you might be back in another Corrado again shortly after. How about a Boxter? That's sporty, has great handling, and has the fun of being a convertible. Not sure what they sell for nowadays but an early one can't be too much.

Corrado virgin, is the storm edition worth the extra premium?
Portent replied to maximusiv's topic in General Car Chat
8v it's too common. Corrado Campaign is where it's at. -
Also check both indicators still cancel automatically.

Portent replied to maximusiv's topic in General Car Chat
True. But in the standard cars favour they do have the limited edition Karmann interior ;) (to the OP... that's not a serious point) -
Take a look in the members gallery as I'm sure there are a couple of build threads. Take a look at C5 OEM's classic green storm for sale. You won't find much better.
-
Thanks that's great. I don't suppose you have any more information on the fuse box connection? From reading up it seems I need to put the black wire into a 12v feed and the grey into the ignition feed... but any idea which slots they are on the fuse box?
-
I seriously can't believe this hasn't sold. It's a crazy cheap price for one of the best Corrado's in the country. I saw this car before C5 OEM bought it (I should have bought it myself but dithered over it) and it was a great car back then. Now it's had a huge amount of restoration done on it and would be like new. If anyone is looking for a Corrado VR6 then this really is worth the trip to see.
-
Welcome. There are a couple of Corrado TDI's on here so I'm sure people can help with any advice.
-
Wow, didn't expect one that local to me :D Not sure how to check to be honest. But if it's off a VR6 then it's a late one. If it's off a valver that's 94 or later then again it should be a late one. Any idea what it came off and what condition it is?
