Reviving an old thread as I'm trying to find out which parts of the loom go where and the above is no longer accessible. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks. I will check the dealer for the price of a new battery cover and come back to you. But... Very long shot... I don't suppose the seats are heated are they?

What's the benefit? How hard is it to fit. Thanks. -
Corrado virgin, is the storm edition worth the extra premium?
Portent replied to maximusiv's topic in General Car Chat
Personally I see headlamp washers as a negative point as it ruins the front of the car. But that's obviously personal preference. The perfect combo in my eyes would be... Air con (very rare) Recaros (either leather or cloth) No rust Everything works (even rarer) The storm had standard leather (not recaro) and no air con. Wheels are a matter of personal preference and I've come to prefer speedlines over solitudes recently (although period aftermarket BBS RS, RX, RC or LM look great. Other desirable aftermarket mods that I like are Audioscape door pods to allow larger speakers, VSR or Schrick manifold, uprated cams and.... A supercharger ;) But concentrate on getting the right car first and foremost. You can add leather or recaros and you can change wheels and other parts. Get a mechanically strong car with good Bodywork and the rest will come with time, patience and a little money. It's a huge amount of fun to improve the car and add the bits you want. I'm completely addicted to it now in a way I never thought I would bw. -

As above buy on condition. When looking for mine I was really after a storm. But now I have a standard VR6 I'm really not bothered that it doesn't have the badge. Something else to consider is that you may feel a little pressure to keep a storm standard to maintain it's value. But with a standard VR6 I am far more happy to try different interiors and wheels etc. A storm will always be worth slightly more but given a choice between an ok storm and a very good standard car I would get the standard car due to the condition. -
Tempted to change mine. I have a milltek. It sounds lovely on full chat but is a bit loud for my taste and I need to get a cat for the mot shortly. Also not a fan of the milltek tip so might just cut my losses, get something new and recoup some of the cost by selling the milltek. Must admit though, it sounds addictive when giving it beans.

Haha yes a jacket is an option although the Corrado heaters are so good that it's not really a temperature thing. I just love heated seats in the winter with the roof and windows open. There's something nice about heat on your back and bum rather than blowing into your face. Thanks for the link Karl. Yes that would be an easier option but I want to use original switches and ideally original loom. So i think looking at old Golf interiors for the heated pads might be the way forward.

So leave maximum attack for lap 2? :)
-
Corrado recaros have electric height adjustment. So no, the height adjustment 'lever' is not the same as standard seats.
-
Haha. Probably no worse than Poorboys Black Hole though.
-
Stunning. Maybe I should risk divorce and have the leathers for winter and cloth for summer like you other guys swap wheels :D
-
Wow, big smash. Loving the mk2 though. I bet that moved.
-
There seems to be a lot of love for the cloth here :) Thanks for the opinions. It certainly gives me something to think about. Prices are always hard to gauge and I haven't looked recently. But last summer when I sourced mine the black cloth was selling for around the 600 to 800 mark depending on condition. Black leather was selling at around the 700 to 900 mark again depending on condition and whether door cards, looms and switches were included. One ebay seller had a black leather set for sale at about 1250 if I recall, but I'm not sure if it sold at that price and it did attract quite a few wtf comments on here. Then there is the lower end with torn ultra violet cloth and leather with parts missing going for only a few hundred. e.g. the cream leather set which recently sold for about 200 or 300 as they were in very bad condition with parts missing. Mind you I can only see prices rising with rarity. Yep, they are the ones.
-
Maybe I overpaid slightly for my cloth to get a decent set. But I'm not seeing a huge difference. Poor quality cloth recaros are not too expensive but good quality black cloth Corrado recaros are quite rare (most cloth recaros tend to be the ultra violet pattern and Corrado recaros are more expensive than golf recaros due to two way movement and lower sub frame). There will be a difference but I'm not seeing a huge one. If they didn't sell for what I think they are worth then I'd just keep them and swap between cloth and leather for an occasional change.

I don't normally like red Corrados to omuch. But wow that looks stunning. Top stuff :thumbleft:

Elsecar Mega Meet + UK Rallye Golf Show 2012
Portent replied to macvwnut's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
I'm not going to the show but in the very unlikely event that you're in the Surrey area I have a spare MAF you're welcome to try on your way up there. Long shot but thought I'd offer it. -

Although a Z3 wouldn't be on my list I do think that a cabrio would be a good shout for you. You've chopped and changed a few times and I think a cabrio would hold your interest for a bit if you've never owned one before. So it's in the right price range, it's a cabrio, it sounds good and has a great engine, and it's a BMW. Overall it seems the right car for you.

Having just replied in depth to Larceny Fink's thread about cloth and leather seats I have a similar question but in regard to Recaro's. I currently have some excellent condition black cloth recaros but for several month I've been playing over in my mind about swapping them for black leather Recaro's instead. The costs wouldn't be significant as I suspect I could sell my cloth for similar money to the cost of leathers (although knowing me I'd probably keep both sets as I've become a bit of a hoarder when it comes to Corrado parts :D) I know the pros and cons of each and having owned the cloth I don't think the leathers would be quite as nice to live with day-to-day. But they would look better overall I suspect (if in good condition or refurbed / recovered). So should I keep the cloth or try to get some leathers? It's a nice dilema to have but I just don't know.

While searching for my car I test drove cars with all types of interior; cloth, leather, recaro cloth and recaro leather. My original criteria was that it had to have leather. But a couple of the cars I drove had very good condition cloth. I was genuinely surprised how good the interior looked and how comfortable cloth was. In fact my car had standard cloth seats when I bought it and I really loved them. I only bought the recaros for the rarity factor. Standard cloth holds you in much better and the seats are softer. It's personal opinion of course but for general driving they are just as comfortable (in a different way) as the cloth recaros. The big advantage of them in a non-air conditioned car is that they are cool in summer and warm in winter. I was genuinely surprised how much I liked the standard seats. Standard leather if in good condition really does make the inside of the car feel more upmarket, particularly with the leather door cards (I love that diaginal stripe of leather on the cards). They are also heated too (if they aren't then they are probably just recovered standard seats). The downside is that they can be cold when you first step into the car in winter and can get hot and sticky in a car with no aircon. Cloth Recaro's are supremely comfy. They don't hold you as firmly as the standard seats and they feel 'harder' to sit in. But I love them and find them just a little bit more comfy overall. The really great thing about them is rarity. I guess that's because they were less desirable than leather back then. They also have electric movement (but not heated) which is a bit of a gimmick if I'm honest. But they do look great as the shape just lifts the interior slightly. A big advantage of them is that they are cool in summer and warm in winter, just like standard seats. Leather Recaro's are seen by many people as the pinacle (but this comes at a price of course). They have the premium look of standard leather and take it a step further with the nicer shape (in my opinion). They have electric movement and heating and the rarity factor and the lovely period 90's look. However they can look tired if not looked after properly (just like standard leather), don't hold you as securely as any of the other seats (my opinion) and have the same disadvantages as standard leather - ie hot in summer and cold in winter. These are the seats to get for the best look but maybe not the best all round comfort. So which would be the best to get? Obviously cloth or leather recaros if your budget will stretch that far and you can find some. But if we're only considering the standard cloth or standard leather then it is, unfortunately a personal choice. Maybe you should come to a meet and try a few seats. Alternatively if you bought leather then it would be easy to sell on again for the same money if you decided you didn't like them. But for me the standard leather just has the edge over the standard cloth. Yes the cloth is, arguably, slightly more comfy and stays an even temperature. But the leather just raises the notch for premium look and the heated elements.

My mate had a Z3 and the build quality was terrible. I also don't think the shape has aged well. I had a mk1 TT coupe at the time and it was a far better car. I adore Z4's but the Z3 was not the greatest period in BMW's history.

Don't worry you wouldn't be a pest. The great thing about this forum is how helpful people are. And we all share a love of the car so it's all good :)

It's really easy. I've done the other side now and in the morning I'll put them in the car and see if they stand out over the older dash and centre console. Close up you can still see a few blemishes because I haven't filled any of the scratches. But they are only noticable close up. Otherwise they look very fresh. I'm not sure whether to put a top coat of laquer on them for protection but I don't think I will as I don't want them too shiny.

I want your car collection. A lot.
