1. He did ask if I knew you :) To be honest it would be cheaper for most of us to get them replaced locally due to travel costs. But I'm equally interested in the quality of the job and if we can get a discount then it would help towards those costs. It just seems a sensible idea if others are considering a replacement to all go in together and use someone reputable rather than risk an unknown fitter. ---------- Post added at 5:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 5:31 PM ---------- Is that a yes or no :)
2. I grabbed some vinyl paint from Halfords today. I couldn't see anything that might be a good filler though. The closest was some plastic bumper repair paste but I thought that may be too hard. So I will probably just leave the scratches and spray the pods. The scratches will be less noticeable once freshly painted. I will post results when done but I don't plan on doing it until I get some new speakers.
3. I'm considering getting my windscreen replaced and noticed that a few people have been using Auto Plus Windscreens in South Yorkshire. It's quite far from me but I would travel for a good service and these guys seem to have a good reputation in the Corrado community. I just called them and they may be accommodating to a group buy. I don't know the specifics yet and we didn't discuss too much. But I wanted to get a feel for whether anyone else may be interested in a group buy. If so then I will go back and get a best price from them. I can't recall the exact price they have for a single screen but it was around the 250 mark for Mon original screen and around 400 for original screen (both PLUS VAT). This is just a feeler to see if there is any interest and I don't yet know what sort of deal we could get. Clearly it would depend on the number of people involved. I assume we would all have to travel to, or near, Sheffield either the same or different days. So... Any interest?
4. Looks great. Such a stunning car now. I'm looking to get mine done in a few months so may consider using them even though they are so far away. In fact I just called them up and checked some prices with them and just asked if they would consider a group buy and they may be. So I will drop something in the group buy feelers forum.
5. Just for reference, there was a company doing aftermarket panels for the Corrado. My passenger front wing was replaced when the car was about 4 years old with a pattern part (I have the invoice in the folder of receipts I got with the car. Strangely it was still fitted and.painted by the VW dealer so Is guess they must have had problem sourcing OEM parts even back for some reason.
6. Low mileage? Then sc vr. If it's high mileage then a newer r32 would be better in my view.
7. Thanks. I'm not sure that polish will be permanent enough. so I was looking at spraying it. Thanks for the heads up on the flexible paint and fixing kits, I will take a look.
8. ^^ Actually he's right. Go with pink. It makes a bold statement.
9. As above, sorry to hear about the job. Good luck with the search.
10. The Corrado is cheaper to tax than most performance cars.
11. And then find they have perished with age.
12. Blast. Didn't know about this and it's almost on my doorstep. But unfortunately I don't think I'm available. Will try to go if my plans change though :(
13. I finally fitted the mats and the Audioscapes. I had wanted to wait until I got some new 6.5" speakers before installing them. But I've had a few unexpected expenses recently so decided to just fit them anyway. I've made some adapter rings so so my old speakers could be re-used. Obviously I won't be getting the benefit of the bigger pods yet but I wanted to get them fitted rather than laying around in the garage. As you can see the previous owner had screwed the speakers into the front of the OEM pods. It sounded fine but I was never happy with the ad-hoc look: New pic with Audioscapes and the new mats. It doesn't look quite right yet because the old orange speakers still show through. But in a month or two I'll get around to buying some new speakers. I'm also thinking about refurbing the pods by filling some of the marks. But they are still acceptable condition as they are: I'm finally getting happy with the interior. I spent a few hours giving the car a good wash and polish following the trip to the AGM at the weekend and I think I'll soon turn my attention to a few bodywork marks that have been lower down on my list. Oh and I lubed the spoiler a couple of weeks ago so that's nice and smooth/quiet now.
14. A while ago I managed to get hold of some Audioscapes. I've fitted them but they do have a few marks. They aren't bad enough to go to the trouble of recovering them. But I am considering filling the marks and spraying. Has anyone done this and what did you use? I've already lighly sprayed the slightly discoloured grills with Halfords satin black and they came out very well indeed. So I'm tempted to spray over the vinyl covering with it. But... do I need a primer first and what would I use to fill the slight scuffs and light scartches?
15. That's true. But it's just a further sign that VW don't want to help their customers keep historic cars running. I can understand items of trim and even panels becoming obsolete but it's a different matter to obsolete essential running parts. So far nearly all of my cars have been holds and scirrocos. But I'm not so sure I would buy another golf simply because it worried me that they have no commitment.t to supporting older cars. The situation is vastly different with BMW which seems quite appealing right now.
16. 2nd babies are usually slightly early. So I'm going for 21:00 on June 16. Oh and congrats.
17. Yes it will come in handy to kidnap the head of VW and demand they support the best car VW ever made.
18. Very worrying. Maybe my joke about swapping the Corrado for a Calibra isn't such a bad idea after all :(
19. Mine were 91p but a slightly different part number to DriverVR6. Mine are on order but will let you know when they arrive. No idea if they are right yet. Although there were only 6 showing in stock.
20. Any clues as to type of car you've decided on?
