Well a bit of supercharger work could have got the car up to 190BHP.. Either that or he doesn't know what he is selling and he could have just got the figures for the VR6 by accident :)

Was talking to a mate who knows of someone on his road in Birmingham with a Corrado VR6 Storm (will get the forum url passed on to him!) and 2 other high performance cars.. don't remeber what they are. My mate chatted to him about his Storm one Saturday afternoon and he said that despite all the other fast cars he has had, he loves the Corrado as much as anything else he has had and keeps it even though he rarely gets the chance to drive it. Stick with it for a few months.. I am sure you will feel the same way :D

Well you have to understand that with the Corrado (and particularly the earlier models like the G60) you are going to end up with a car that is 11+ years old. I think its a testament to VW / Karmann that these cars are still on the road today and in generally very good mechanical order despite having usually crunched up well over 120,000 miles with little more than regular servicing. As you are looking at a Corrado G60, there are a few things you should look out for when buying. First and foremost is to ensure that the G-Lader / Supercharger has been rebuilt at some point in its life - preferably about the 60,000 / 70,000 mile mark. The G60 supercharger is not an indestructable unit and does need servicing, so check that it has been rebuilt. If not, try and haggle some money off the price and get it done after buying the car - especially if its done a lot of miles. If the charger does blow, you are looking at a bill of £1,500+ with VW, so its in your best interests to spend the £500 getting it taken care of! Other than that, its pretty much standard stuff. A full VWSH is always preferential, but at least a FSH is what you want.. you can't afford to be missing out on services with the Corrado. Check all the electric toys work, such as the mirrors and sunroof. Sunroofs have a habit of breaking and are costly to fix - so make sure the sunroof both tilts AND slides. The rear electric spoiler should automatically raise at anywhere between 40MPH and 56MPH depending (seems to be different on most Corrados) and retract again at about 5MPH. Make sure the car idles well, and make sure there are no warning signs for things like the headgasket needing redoing, etc. :)

If its of any use Thera (and if its urgent), http://www.gapsecurity.co.uk/ do Clifford and similar alarms and come out to your place of work to fit them - but you can also do credit and spread the cost over monthly payments. I've heard they do a pretty good job. Just letting you know :)

Isn't Dusty Mauve the Campain colour Jez?

Come on then.. what ya gone and bought then Ant?? :) Bet you wish you kept that 'rocco now!!? :)

Well look forward to seeing you all bright and early. Make sure you bring some extra cash with you all, as I will be selling the fabled Corrado Forum stickers. Its an ideal opportunity for those of you who haven't got any sorted out yet to pick some up :)

I think punishment in this country is just way too light for the lowlifes who steal the things that we have worked so hard for and earned. Yes the car might be insured, but all you are doing by handing over the keys is adding yet another statistic to the insurance and putting premiums up. Its a classic vicious circle, and the only people that lose out are us - the people buying the cars, and the people insuring them. Punishment for car crime needs to be severe.. and the police need to stop spending their money on frigging speed cameras (and trying to catch out the general motorist) and spend more money on catching the scum who keep doing this to us. Why dont they set up stings - fast cars with trackers and undercover coppers - car is stolen, car is tracked or the culprits are caught and nailed. If the crimes are happening in particular areas (such as in the lovely Coventry) the police just need to cruise about late at night in a pricey performance car. Surely they are eventually going to get jacked, and slowly but surely these people can be arrested and the crime ring can be smashed?

Well I had my Clifford Concept 300 installed at Pilot in Earlsdon in Coventry. They are a Clifford Approved fitment centre, and seem to be pretty cool. Cost was about £350, and I haven't had any problems with it so far!

Really like that black 16v. The estoril alloys seem to suit black Corrado's pretty well! :)
-
Pardon? :D :)

Its disgusting that this is happening, and somehow no one can stop them. Its happened in Coventry twice now - some guy got his Seat Leon Cupra stolen from him one morning whilst he went to post a letter, and some guy was in the paper recently after getting chased in his Subaru Impreza at 1am - luckily he out performed the chase car, and left them for dead. Its disgusting.. these low life scumbags are getting more and more prevalant, and its just not on. These crooks seem to think its ok to use violence to get what they want, they need to be punished in the same way. Its the only way they'll learn.

Heh.. that would bring Mikes Corrado tally up to 4. A tad excessive possibly ;)
-
Ahh too bad.. though it sounds like this has given you some excuse for major engine work. You'll be kicking ass at the pod next year I am sure :) So are you gonna hitch a lift up to the RR day then to watch? :)
-
Reckon you'll be ready for Stealth Racing RR Day mate? Hope you get it sorted soon! :)

"a bit of T-cut & maybe the tracking sorted perhaps
Jim replied to vr6storm's topic in General Car Chat
Sure his insurance company are gonna love him.. Insurer : "Any previous claims?" Guy : "Yes, I wrote off a £120,000 Lamborghini Diablo" Insurer : *click* Guy : "Hello? Hello?!" -
Yikes. I can't believe the nerve (read stupidity) of some people. I hope you nail this idiot Roadhog.. I'd definately speak to Darren - he's a really helpful guy and I am sure he can give you some top advice. EVERYONE on the forum who has had work done with him has been very happy, and if I were to buy a Corrado G60, he'd be getting my business without a doubt.

Doesn't sound likely to me.. it sounds more likely to be a fault with the lambda sensor which, I believe, sits in the exhaust system just behind or before the catalyst. A faulty lambda would make your engine run badly and give you poor fuel economy.

Yeah.. that drainpipe rollcage is absolutely classic.. if anything, when the car rolled, it would splinter and shoot plastic shards all around the car. Probably not what you want in an accident. Its quite cunning (looks realistic till you get up close) but totally pointless.. hilarious :)

Sweet sweet sweet sweet... That really is, imho, a superb looking Corrado. The Porsche wheels just suit the Corrado so well - and then the debadged colour coded front grille, and the sweet blue paintwork just make the car look amazing. If I had a Corrado again, i'd want it to look like that :) Though.. i'm more of a fan of the standard VW Corrado front bumper, if I was to make one change :D
-
Well i'm delighted for you that your car won't be written off.. and its also nice to see the insurance company not screwing the customer for once, and actually appreciating the value of the Corrado. But my word.. £3,400 in parts.. thats quite an astounding figure!! :(

I forgot to take my camera unfortunately (well, not forgot, but the batteries were kaput), so there isn't the usual bunch that I upload. Just got the clips that Ants mate took.. though video is about 100x better than a still picture, so they'll be worth waiting for I am sure :)
-
Looks sweet :) Looks well looked after too! :)

General rule of thumb is if you are unsure of recent history for the cam belt, get it changed. As others have said, if the cambelt goes, there will just be a noise and your engine will just cease / stop. You'll then be looking at up to £1000 in repairs.. so for the sake of 40 quid, get it changed!! :)

Does anyone else here find that if they leave their mobile phone in the car (close to the alarms box of tricks) it sets the alarm off? I've experienced this now with two different cars, both with different alarms, and different mobile phone handsets! My Corrado used to have a 'Conlog 300' alarm which was pretty flaky tbh - I left my phone in the driver side door pocket a number of times, and whenever the phone rang it would set the car alarm off without fail. And now just last week I parked my Saxo up outside the local tyre centre and left my phone in the centre console, where I assume some of the gubbins for my Clifford Concept 300 are. The alarm has so far been very well behaved but it just went off for no reason whilst I was getting some tyre prices.. I ran outside and looked in the car to see my phone had a missed call. Phones have gotta be to blame!! :D
