that's almost as much as my samco's cost me!!
-
there other sizes too, but they are MEGA rare.
-
smoothed rear bumper looks great, my mate has his done. I was tempted to go for a side exit, but Ithink this might be a bit too tacky for the classy looking corrado. corrado's just do not suit bolt on modifications. subtle changes only for me thanks.

How much are quafie LSD's and is it a possible DIY job???
PhatVR6 replied to Johnboy98's topic in Engine Bay
you need quite a lot of specialsit tools to do it. I downloaded the official manual for the 02a box, but decided that the parts were costing me so much money it was worth paying an expert to do it rather than having a got myself. quaife used to be £515+VAT from stealth. peloquin works out much cheaper at $700 as it includes the bearings, the speedo drive gear AND the ring gear bolts. http://www.thescirocco.com for best prices. they are worth every single penny though. I cannot stress enough how much this will transform the way your car performs. I've not gotten the fron end of my car out of shape once since it was installed, it desn't even feel like a FWD car anymore. get it to stealth, get a full rebuild at the same time, and consider a shrter final drive too. I've gone right for a 3.94, and I thnk it's absolutely perfect. for normal driving I can pull away in 2nd, go stright to 4th, then 6th, and it pulls like the stock car does. if I want to go ballistic I use them all and it's off like a scalded cat. the VR should have had a 3.94 and a torque biasing diff from the factory. if it did, it would have been the greatest fwd car of all time. -
add that to the list of other rare things about my car then. it's more exclusive than a campaign!

no, mines goes inside, hence the roof lining mods. hopefully it's more reliable than the rockwell one. but f*ck knows where I'll get any bits for it if it does throw a wobbler. I hated it at first, when I found out it wasn't a passat one, I nearly sold tha car! but I love it now.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1099922 more info and pics on my weird sunroof.
-
believe it or not, it was ordered as a non sunroof corrado (which I was looking for) and then sent to a firm to have it fitted before it was collected by the new owner. the date of the install is 2 weeks before the car was registered it's slides inside the roof like the factory one, but the motor is at the back and the switch was in the dash. the whole roof lining was retrimmed from new!! madness, how could you cut up a brand new car like that!! it's about 2" bigger than the factory one. I have the panel back all the time, the interior is much nicer with the extra light coming in, and becasue it's chromolux it never gets too hot. going the have the windows tinted to match. I've just changed the courtesy light and moved the switch up there, need the connector now so I can plug it into the original switch. I had part of the roof lining out to check the install. it's been done well, no bodging or rust or leaks thankfully. just need to hook up the closure part of it to my alarm so it shuts with the windows.

I have no complaints at all about my cable shifter. in fact, when the 8v was in it was the smoothest shifting car I've ever driven. slightly notchier with the 6 speed though, although I don't know why as it's fully rebuilt and full of redline oil and I have the VT mounts too. I guess it's just down to adjustment issues. no complaints on the sunroof either. because mines a hollandia sunroofs(webasto) chromolux glass, one touch electic tilt-n-slide which cost about £800 when new!

Have a look on E-Bay,saw one on there 2 weeks ago.

She won't dare complain, she's sh1t scared of my missus now because she kicked off at her the other week for being a moaning old bag. it's a shared fence anyway, and I'd be paying for it all and doing the work so what have they got to complain about?
-
no houses overlooking mine. only one, but it's the side of thier house with only one window. neighbours car f*ck off. the reason I'm building it is to keep her prying eyes off what I'm doing, she's a right moaning cow, always moaning about the cars. might get some peace as well as shelter with a car port. the fence will be going right between our driveways, just higher than the one that's there now. My builder mate lee reckons I don't need permission. Haven't spoken to mike yet, Lee's sort of taken over the project himself already! Imagine what it'd be like having 2 site managers and a draughy all working on the same job........ scrapped the karting plans, no one would commit to it as per usual.

I'm going to be building one of these soon. just looking for a few picsof existing ones for construction method ideas. I'm going to use a 100x100 box section post at either end, with 100x50 box section posts in between and 6' wooden fence panels. the roof structure will be wood with that hollow section plastic panellig on the top. Any builders out ther care to comment? and where do I stand with building regs/planning permission etc? I don't believe I need any for a car port?

larger alternator - is it possible to fit?
PhatVR6 replied to Nick_Micouris's topic in Suppliers Forum
early vr's wre 75, later one 90. highlines and higer specced cars with mor electrics got 120. trnasporter.sharan/galaxy ghia got 150 the power invertor runs stright off the battery, not the fuseboard. should be handy for running my laptop, in car tv and playstation 2. and my kettles. might put a fridge in there too. -
twist it with your finger and thumb. if it goes past 90 degrees easily it's too slack

larger alternator - is it possible to fit?
PhatVR6 replied to Nick_Micouris's topic in Suppliers Forum
well, I couldn't find a 120a one. and it was only £40 so I had to have it. I do have a 240 volt power invertor though, so I could theoretically run a kettle or 2! -
you can usually see the wear. does it rattle at all? I'd just clean it all out in a parafin bath and then re grease it. it takes a lot to kill one. people run them bone dry for years and they still keep going.

PhatVR6 replied to Nick_Micouris's topic in Suppliers Forum
no, it won't overcharge. it'll just provide up to 150a of charge when it's needed. for instance, if you're running a large stereo system of a lot of electrics. handy if you have a second battery too. I remember with my old mk2, when it had the 65a on it, if I drove around at night with the stereo on loud (hey, I was young  ) then the car wouldn't start in the morning as the alternator wasn't supplying enough juice to top up the battery. -

I've got a 150a alternator for my vr6, off a sharan. -
side trims are going vw emblem will be satin black, already done the corrado badge satin it never came with vr6 badges, it was an 8v remeber it has a rieger front grille I might ditch the boot lok and get the plate surround done for now. although daft plastic stuff like that I can paint myself, it's just big panels and blending in I'm not brave enough to tackle. I'm thinking of ditching the exhaust tailpipe at some point too. I'm not happy with the front bumper, but I don't like the look when the indicators and fogs are gone, so any opinions and pic of variations on that are welcome. no RS bumpers though, they stink.
-
I hope you don't mind me saying so Ian, but that's quite a flattering photo of your old mk2, it wasn't that mint up close really.
-
you pull the c clip out and then you can pull the sensor out. drain the coolant into a bucket first, or at least some of it. Do you have a water leak above your fusebard??? give it a spray with WD40, seems like you've got a few weird electrical faults.
-
Got quoted £400 for the work. £150 of which will be getting paid for by the insurance company of the woman who dented my rear quarter. so £250 for the lot, not bad eh! I'll do most of the stripping down and rebuilding work myself to keep the cost down you see. and I'll start the arch work myself too, stripping off the underseal and stuff like that. I may even finsh off my arch rolling tool and start the arcehs off too. I'll need to delay the work so see it all in bare metal to make sure not too much filler has been used. I'm not letting a bodyshop go down that route with my car again, they ruined my mk2 with filler and bodged repairs. I hope this one is much better. he painted my mates mk2 6 years ago and that still looks like new, so he muct be pretty good. just need to sort out the rear axle now so I can fit these wheels on.
-
I'd say yellow coolant temp sensor too, as that also control fan run on/ check the wiring first, if all appears ok try a new sensor.

you could always change your mind and go to scotland instead
