Tinting Tailights

I tinted the top portion of my tailights after sanding the entire of my tailights. It looks nice and was wondering if it is nessacary or a good idea to put a clearcoat on tailights. I talked to a guy today and he said not to because it might make it turn yellow in age. Will the paint be OK if I leave it how it is with out a clearcoat? The brake lights are unpainted but I did sand them.

Personally I'd lacquer them as it gives the tinted portion a finish that's much closer to the factory lower half...

I sanded the bottom half though... Also somebody told me the laqour would strip the nightshade tint.

you could have a bad reaction with the tint, normally you dont as gradeA says.. i did mine and had no problems

guess you are gonna need it if you sanded the whole light, but you dont need it, can help it look better of course

My old rado had the top half tinted and we laquered it with no problems at all...

 

If you've sanded the bottom half as well, i'd get the whole cluster lacquered by a bodyshop for a professional finish...!

Going back to topic, i have a cracked light you can practice on if your worried about the clear coat doing strange things!?

I went ahead and put a clearcoat on it. It looks pretty good. I wish it was a little more glossy. I am thinking about taking them to a professional to get them clearcoated.

I would use a bodyshop, they use the best clearcoat. :)
