Oil Heat Exchange

Recommended Posts

Evening all, I changed the oil on my car yesterday and found that the unit thats on top of where the filter screws into was leaking oil.

Was talking to Supercharged before who said that they often fail and that i might be able to get rid of it. If this is correct how do i go about it, what bits do i need??

Thanks in advance.......

is the oil leaking into the water system? if you just have a leak in that area, its prob the rubber seal between the exchanger and housing

Don't remove it or your oil will get too hot, just replace the upper "O" ring 038 117 070 A, about £3 from the dealer.

It also ensures that your water warms up quickly too - that's one reason why 80's and early 90's dubs have really good heaters.

Can someone please confirm that the heat exchanger will unscrew from the holder, or do I have to take the whole thing off the side of the crankcase

Cheers

Cool - are you changing it for a new cooler? I ask because you need 2 mk1 water pipes if not and a shorter thread for the oil filter to go on...

I have a nut off mine in the garage, will go and measure it for you...
