They do look nice. I would have to put them on the car with the writing all at the same angle, the same with the badges... doh. Good luck with that.
-
A proper cup holder would be nice. The mk4 golf had a rectangular unit that popped out. I wonder if someone has made this pop out behind the normal ashtray front
-
I do like that. What did you use for the fascia panel ?
-
I have seen that previously. To be fair I would like to see a picture of it fitted to understand where it actually fits and how it works. It would be good if they did some of the cool Gruven parts.
-
Mate , apologies as I cant help with this one. Definitely a different language that I dont understand. I remember having a booster and equalizer back in the days of the KLF in my Ford Fiesta π€£π€£ Good luck with it

I'm thinking static pole system on a sturdy dolly like you have shown. That has potential ... I was in the process of building something like Goldie has, but up high above the workbench. Decisions decisions.... but they will definitely be off the floor Keyo. Thanks for the suggestions And keep them coming π

I like the idea of those racks. πThe static version may be more stable for me, but it does seem handy being able to wheel things around. Hmmm
-
Ok people. What sort of super racking do you have for your spare sets of alloy wheels. I'm just sorting my garage out and need to create something. I remember seeing someone's shelving set up that kept them all stood up. Ideas very much appreciated.

That is a lot of thinking for early in a morning mate. Ive never done the gearbox, yet. So can't advise but sounds a bigger job. Could that be done next year so you can get it back on the road quicker this year? I get your worries with the stem seals, so I would get the car started as soon as you can. I'm sure they will be fine. Another next years job if needed π

The motor is already off. Top tips always welcome π

Everyday is a school day. I'm glad I have seen that part. Tomorrow I am going to pull my damaged unit apart as a learning exercise

James, another to do is oil the o rings that you fit to help with the seal. Replace any you can as it would be a pain to do when the front end is on. Pag46 oil is what is in the compressor. If you want a small pot of this I will happily find a pot and post you some π
-
I was totally unaware that these could be replaced until a few months ago when I did the one on my Passat. I believe I just wiggled it out. Wait until you get the new one maybe
-
What about one from a polo of that era?
-
I take it yours is a LHD. The compressor would fit, but not much else. What is needed would be the fan heaterbox inside the dash that houses the evaporator and I'm afraid it would not fit any RHD car. Without this there is no aircon. I like the idea of utilising mk3 golf parts but not much else would be useful. Your condensor (aircon radiator) is good, but the receiver drier that is attached to it would need replacing. It would also need the wiring for the pressure and temperature sensors on top of it kicking in the fans and increasing revs. A major job. If someone near you wants it and you don't, let him have it for a price you are happy with. Personally due to rarity I would keep it. Good luck with your decision

Keyo, strange question mate. Is the Shrick lettering raised or sunken in?
-
Very very nice mate. Enjoy cruising as you bed her in π

All available mate. I bought some the other week. A mixture from classic parts and ebay for the genuine. Other makes available for about 50 pounds for the complete set https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/113981251676

I'm in agreement with Keyo. Fla you need to get that out and sorted before it has gone toooo far. Or stick a new trim in for now and sort it at the end of the year. .. but definitely sort it
-
I had mine removed this week. Β£30 , out in 40 mins. And it broke on the very last corner.... there was no signs of any rust around the edges of mine, even with the trim and seals removed. But with the windscreen out there was minor rust under there, possibly caused by the previous fitter about 7 years ago. I was glad it was out and that I could clean and treat it all. Good luck with finding someone capable.. who doesn't use the old disclaimer 'it's old so may break'

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00H8RUCRY/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_e0XREbE3XKY8C 8FT 351 199-011 HELLA is the model that was a perfect swap on mine. Removing a sticker on the top reveals a sight glass to see the bubbles!!! I purchased mine off ebay but can not find the link. And do not connect it until you are ready to have the system all connected up, as it absorbs the moisture in the air. Dont ask how I learnt about that... doh

Mine is a Diavia fit system from the dealer. I decided in the last year to sort its problems out. The new pipework and connections I had done recently but weren't anything special. I took the old hoses and had them copied at the aircon place near me. There are a couple of diavia threads on here that are well worth a read. And one titled Davina aircon. I will source the receiver drier link out for you.
-
And both will help with the shiny engine bay that you have

https://www.autoairconparts.co.uk/universal-condenser-aftermarket-part-ssp022301.html Is the direct replacement condensor. And you will need to change the drier that fits on the front I used a Hella part at less that 30 pounds.

I have just had a long read of your thread james. ππ You have definitely been doing this longer than me. Thanks for the tips. I've left the fuel filler flap on and have a great chrome script badge surprisingly . I will check the spraying over when I go to look. The slam panel needs to be painted for me, even though it was done 2 years ago off the car, i want the colour to match. All great advice and the cavity wax is on my to do list. Thanks
