Well I've only gone and done it.... After 2 months of getting nowhere I decide to attack the housing and remove the evaporator. Easier than I thought really. I removed the spal motor just by unscrewing it. I then undid the 5 screws holding the top and bottom sections together, drilled out the rivets and cut along the glued edge. With a wiggling of an electricians screwdriver I forced the gap. Lastly I cut the glued section by the evaporator and drilled these two rivets. Hey presto it split in two. I've gained access to the evaporator which was full of dirt by the drain hole. Advice to anyone, try blowing Air back up the drain pipe to clear this out. It would all blow out through your air vents and help the evaporator be more efficient. My next challenge is to get it tested/find a replacement. I will post up on here when this is achieved. And whilst it is all in bits I am going go refelt the motor flap and refresh it all. Watch this space  Pictures to follow if I can.

I'm loving this thread and have said my piece previously. Bring back TAPATALK please. No Facebook for me, ha ha The Forum and CCGB for me

Welcome aboard mate. 99% answer to all of your questions are here. Enjoy the love and pain of a Corrado

I bought a Hella rad just b4 Xmas off Ebay, less than a hundred pounds delivered. So well worth searching around. Was for my VR though

Struggling to sort my receipts, but... I purchased my condensor from Autoaircon parts for just under £100 and delivered. It is a universal part SSP022301 that cross references to the Diavia item. Just be careful with the bottom hose connection.... And the receiver drier I purchased was a HELLA 8FT351199-011 OE £21.36 0ff Ebay. Again this is a universal item but I went for the branded item. I also purchased a mixed set of aircon O rings. What I am still trying to source is the replacement Evaporator.... no luck so far, but I will add to this thread when I have sorted it

This site does not need to die, just move forward better. The knowledge that is available to any Corrado owner is 2nd to none. For me, when tapatalk was working on this site I and others could post pictures and keep track of my own chats easier. It worked in a more colourful way and you didn't need to be clicking on a picture to open it up. Hopefully one day we will get this back... but we have had this want before. Fingers crossed.

I'll 2nd that. Should only need the correct rubber o ring.

I'll dig out my receipts this weekend and post up for you

I feel your anger mate. Unfortunately some people don't have the standards of others. I paid someone for a number plate light, the part that lights up.... and was sent a ****e rusty surround!! AGHH So good luck in getting it sorted out

I have changed a few parts on mine, but as with anything I always fit a new seal . I can't say much as I'm on the look out for a replacement evaporator, but it has always been recharged with the R134A. If you haven't had any work done to it in a while, then the receiver drier which sits in front of the condenser would need replacing. £30 item but the front bumper needs to come off to gain access. I decided to replace my condensor (£100) and created myself a whole world of grief in doing so. It was 25 years old though ! Let us know how you get on

Davina aircon, ha ha love it. Noise from the alternator area would normally point to the compressor. Did the engine idle change when you switched it on and could you hear the compressor clutch engage? When mine was low on gas the clutch would not engage as the low pressure sensor was stopping it Good luck mate

Finally found the part number 171121276D available at VW Heritage for £1.36 each although I purchased mine from TPS

Interesting that removing 2 and 5 has no issue... but before you replace the coil pack could you consider changing the plugs and leads to these. Swap them round with the working ones . Good luck anyway
-
Regarding no.35, I have just changed my rad and replaced these. I think I may have got them from classic parts but I will check my receipts. Weirdly they seem identical to the rubbers underneath a standard VR6 Airbox

Hmmmmm. If you need to drill all the thread out to clean it up, then possibly yes, as you don't want any burrs dropping through. Maybe try seeing if the Helicoil will fit in now, nothing to lose. Got to be easier with the manifold off though. Good luck with this one

I have a suggestion.... ignition switch! Have you ever changed it as this is a known problem. Cheap enough to do and very very fiddly, but is a quick way to rule this out. I think there is a 'how to' on here here somewhere.
-
I've only replaced the one from the drier to the condensor for now. I've kept it exactly the same as before and will do if I replace the others
-
Apologies as I've only just noticed this. I got the condensor from auto air conditioning parts, online and less than £100, exactly same as previous one. My hose was made up by Derbyshire hose and fittings and there service was excellent. I'm considering having more made up by them now that I've dropped the evaporator out.. I did damage the thread on the lower fitting on my condensor using the old hose and realised that the same damage was on my old condensor. I suspect that these have always been wrong and even a 2nd hand unit I had was damaged at this point. So I think the diavia hose and condensor aren't the perfect fit. Be cautious when doing this. My new hose and an old skool engineering workshop sorted that issue though

Always nice to get working time on the corrado, especially on a nice day
-
Not the condensor. I replaced that last month and was only a pain as I ruined the threads on a joint then broke the drier undoing a hose!! I had it all pressure tested today and it is losing pressure somewhere. The aircon guy reckons it may be the evaporator in the car. So I dropped this heater blower unit out to take for testing but would need to split the sealed casing....and I don't really want to do that. Especially if I can't get a replacement. Disappointed that he didn't try putting the coloured dye in first as this could be a nightmare now Thanks for the reply

Ha, old thread revival. Has anyone ever sourced a replacement Evaporator / split the heater box open. This may hit a blank I know, but thought I'd try my luck
