  1. Can't help you with the bottom end stuff I'm afraid but I did a top end rebuild on my VR last year and these are prices and where I got stuff from. I'm not saying they're the best prices as I didn't shop around too much. For Gilders read VAG dealer.
  2. Thought as much, better be getting me multimeter out when my wife gets home with the Corrado then. Cheers, Tony
  3. Just tried mine, got nothing made any sense. Tried all the cars I've owned, same result. Dissapointing, was hoping to find out what happened to my old valver :(
  4. Were heated mirrors standard fit or not? My first Corrado, a 1990 valver with manual windows and no sun roof had them, yet my 95 VR6 with electric everything and leather appears not to. Or at least neither has ever worked in over six years since I've owned it, not that I've ever investigated the reason for this, I was just interested.

    help please

Look for stuff says Corrado and (Eng) fairly self explanatory stuff really! All the wires are there and the right colours, looks to me though that the terminals are numbered 1, 2 and 3, not + and -

    help please

Just been looking through everything I have from my climate control install but can't find reference to the terminal markings for thermo switch. You might find what you're looking for on here though: http://volkswagen.msk.ru/index.php?p=page09
  7. I've never done the one on the Corrado so don't know the actual location but if it's possible to get a socket near it there are various companies make a deep 22mm with a slot down one side specifically for taking out lambda probes. I bought one from Draper for about a tenner but if you take a look at the following link you'll see what I mean. Obviously this one comes with SnapOn price attached! http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=69215&group_ID=1448&store=uk&dir=catalog
  8. You gotta say it's either parked in a hole or someone crawled under the back with a jack while nobody was looking. Looks sweet whatever 8)

    Lost Wiper

Do you use the sort you apply with a cloth or the additive in the wash bottle? I used to use the super concentrate stuff where you put in a squirt per litre of washer water but now all i can find is the crap stuff where you add half the bottle, and it's nowhere near as good. The old stuff was better than the wipe on stuff and a lot less hassle. I've never tried the stuff in the wash bottle, only ever seen the one you wipe on the screen then polish up. Both the Corrado and S3 are done with it, brilliant stuff. Can take a bit of getting used to sitting on the motorway with rain lashing down and no wipers going!
  10. sorry mate just had to  You never know, that might be what they call them
  11. I just wanted to say.....THAT IS SO COOL!! :D It may sound fun but it's lots of long hours and bad weather! Still loved doing it though, a bit like being paid to do your hobby, I gave it up in the end to go back to engineering, sat at home waiting for the next contract to start I'm never sure if it was a good idea.
  12. As you say, stud extractors work by drilling a hole in the centre of the remaining bolt before inserting the extractor with it's left handed tapered thread to unscrew the stub. Drilling the hole often relieves the bolt enough to get it out, I bought some from Snap On with tricky left handed cobalt drill bits, they drill through anything and the bolt will often come out on the drill without even using the extractor, not cheap though
  13. Try this page on DVLA site: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/contactus/enquires/vehicles_enquires.aspx
  14. When I was working for a rally team, Shell Turbo Rally was £4.10 per litre and our Evos would do 1 mile per litre with anti lag on (stage) and 2 miles per litre with it off (road). A normal weekend would have a one day shakedown and a 1 1/2 day rally so we would expect to use about 200 to 250 litres per car! I ran it in my Golf GTI a few times (never tried it in the Corrado) and yes, you can tell the difference but it's certainly not worth 4 times the price until you're looking for the last few tenths!
  15. I was reading about the forthcoming Brooklands centenary in Motorsport News this week and it reminded me of the first CCGB event I attended in 96. The only other person there that I can think of would be JrB from the days before he had the Campaign VR6 although maybe he'd rather forget the day due to certain gearbox and tent problems..............I'll leave it to him to explain! Dug out this photo from before the rain started. :D
  16.   OK, maybe that's a little exageration but it failed on rusty brake pipes! A couple of the pipes from the bias valve and then the ones over the rear beam to the wheels need swapping, tell the truth I knew they would but I don't have the flaring tools and the garage floor was cold and the roof leaks a bit so it was wet etc etc. So I left it at the garage over night and we'll be sorted tomorrow. Thanks for all the nice comments anyway, I'm fitting a stereo in my mates 993 tomorrow so hoping to get a picture of that plus the Rado and the S3 on the drive at the same time, I'll post the results.
  17. Couple of pictures, first time out of the garage in 10 months. Now I just need the MOT tester to be happy!
  18. After nearly selling the Corrado when we took it off the road last March because we'd bought the S3 and then deciding to tidy it up a little, it's back. I just went for a sneaky spin around the village, still officialy on SORN and need to get MOT and tax tomorrow but I couldn't resist any longer. Looks the part too, refurbed Speedlines, painted bumpers, body all clayed and polished, driver's seat repaired. Plus engine rebuild, new clutch and climate control thrown in for good measure, almost like having a new car. I'll post some pictures, tomorrow, tried now but it's too dark.
  19. Just to offer an alternative opinion. I bought a cable from an Ebay seller in Germany, slightly more money than one from the States but I was sure of paying no duty that way. It's a serial cable but then I have a serial port on the laptop as I need it for work. Download of Vagcom 409.1 from Ross Tech is free, activation is $99, total price around £70 and I can connect to most VAG motors up to around 2004. Even without activation there are a lot of functions can be carried out so can be even cheaper?
  20. Way back when I had my valver, some time in 96 I was in the dealers and they had two blue 95 VR6s, one a Storm, one not in the showroom. One had almost 40,000 miles on it, not sure which, but both had asking price £24,500 on the screen. When I swapped my valver for a VR6 a few years later and it cost me £13,000 I thought I had a bargain, no wonder I don't want to sell now is there?
  21. That was my thought, if it drives OK missing that much weight I wouldn't be bothered looking where it came from!
  22. The top sill as you're calling it is part of the front panel, all comes out together after the bumper comes off. As I said before, it is possible to do a rad without removing front panel, I've done it both ways but now would only do it by removing the front as it's a real ball ache without, just my opion of course. I used to work for a rally team and we always looked for the quickest way to do anything. 36 minutes for an Evo gearbox takes some practice :)

    Glovebox

    That's cheating
  24. If I remember right, there's 2 M10 bolts (17mm socket) up through the chassis rail each side and a few self tappers holding the plastic guards on at each side. Plus you'll have to disconnect the wiring from lights etc. Front panels mainly just headlights out then about six 6mm (10mm socket) self tapping bolts on each side plus a couple more in the centre behind the front bumper. Top rad brackets and it's away.
  25. SCAM- Read exactly the same email posted on another forum a few weeks ago. Same text word for word.
